Theatre is best when it incites or excites. Plays and musicals that provoke action. That challenge complacency. That demand your

attention. And that is just what we have chosen this year. Shows from various eras and genres that examine what makes someone rebel or

challenge the established way things have always been done.

And that is what my colleagues are doing at Michigan State University by challenging the traditional in order to create something new,

unique and fresh. From our one-of-a-kind self-selected undergraduate education (School of Choice) to our highly regarded artist/educator Master of Fine Arts program... we are doing things di�erently. With the most advanced stage technology (and now the newest, cutting-edge scene shop in the Big Ten!) we allow designers the opportunity to redefine conventional design. With focused-based theatre studies

courses we challenge the traditional survey teaching model. With forward-thinking acting courses we embrace media in the classroom.

To adventurous programs like ĭmáGEN with Wharton Center (that develops new innovative musicals), Theatre2Film, and 4th Wall Theatre

with Autism Alliance of Michigan... we do things di�erently!

We celebrate the non-conformist, the new thinker, the rebel!

Revolutionary theatre director, Iqbal Khan, will be in residence this November. Khan’s most recent directorial venture was a production of William Shakespeare’s Othello at the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company inStratford-Upon-Avon UK (2015). It was a trailblazing rendition of Shakespeare’s famed play,as evident from the accoladesit widely received. THE CREATIVE TEAMGABRIEL BARRE is an internationally acclaimed director who most recently directed the new musical Amazing Grace on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre. He also co-created the new musical Magic To Do with Stephen Schwartz and Mark Hartman for Princess Cruises. In Prague, Czech Republic, he directed another original musical, Carmen, now seeing a revival after its four year sold out run.NORMAN DURKEE was active as a composer, arranger, producer, pianist, conductor and teacher from 1968 until his passing on January 12, 2014. His work included 18 ballets, 32 chamber works and commercials for Boeing, Nike, Coca-Cola, and many other corporations. He was musical director for Hair and Tommy, and composed several scores for Daniel Sullivan at Seattle Repertory Theatre. Mr. Durkee pioneered the use of binaural technology for theatrical presentation. He has produced a number of binaural works designed for an audience equipped with headphones. CONSTANTINE KITSOPOULOS has made a name for himself as a conductor whose musical experiences comfortably span the worlds of opera and symphony, where he conducts in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Royal Albert Hall, and musical theater, where he can be found leading orchestras on Broadway. Kitsopoulos is the Music Director of the Queens Symphony Orchestra and continues as General Director of Chatham Opera, which he founded in 2005.JENNIFER PAULSON-LEE has enjoyed a 25+ year career throughout the USA, Europe, Japan and Canada spanning Broadway and O� Broadway, Radio City, Classical Opera and Television, while often developing new works. Currently running on three vessels for Princess Cruises is Magic To Do, a new musical revue of Stephen Schwartz songs with Director Gabriel Barre and Musical Director Mark Hartman.SILVIA PETO won one of the largest National Endowment for the Arts grants ever awarded for musical theatre. Temple experienced two workshop productions at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and received the “Promise of Greatness” award given by The Stranger for best new theatre. Her plays include, Airstream, selected by the Pioneer Square Theatre New Works Project, Mona and the Night Nurse, produced by the Oregon Stage Company in Portland, a one-act play, Afternoon at the Harvard Exit, (Best of Festival at Seattle’s New City Theatre Director’s Festival) and was selected by National Public Radio as part of its International Festival of Women Writers.
