This studio abroad in Florence, I ta ly stressed the development of our draf t ing and sketching sk i l l s through the presentat ion of ex ist ing I ta l ian masterpieces. A study of patterns and layers in Brunel leschi ’s f inest work , I l Duomo,
a l lowed me to develop draf t ing techniques, learn about the development of st ruc tural techniques, and interpret the Duomo through a modern lens.

Mapping was a fundamental e lement to our studio in Florence. I researched, t racked and mapped the i l legal economy of immigrant workers and Roma who beg and bar ter around the Piazza . Their interac t ion with the pol ice and their
movements through the space and mobs of tour ists was dic tated largely by their t rade. M apping a lso included the pattern studies of I l Duomo through drawing and model ing with eggshel l and paper.
When think ing of an insta l lat ion for the Piazza , most would think of how i t could benef i t the locals or the tour ists , but I sought to imagine a struc ture that could both shie ld the i l legal sa lespeople, whi le a lso providing shade and seat ing
in a f lex ible struc ture in the Piazza .

The 212 studio focused on scale, ranging f rom urban mapping, des igning chi ldren’s furniture, and culminat ing in designing a k indergar ten on M anchester B lvd, in Saint Louis . Our urban studies included research into the fabr ic of
the Grove neighborhood, the pol i t ica l s t ruc ture, h istor y, economic and culture of the area . I focused on M anchester B lvd, which saw the greatest change i t i ts charac ter throughout the years.

The nex t stage of the 212 studio included mapping the movement and patterns of p lay in chi ldren at a local pre -school . The form of the bui lding was inspired by the contrast of the f renet ic and stable par ts of the body of a chi ld at p lay at a sand-box. This led to the form of the K indergar ten latching on to the neighbor ing bui lding, as i f for suppor t .
Work included hand- drawn perspec t ives, d igita l representat ion and model ing.

The 312 studio course work was focused on Br idgeton M issour i , a suburb of St . Louis wedged bet ween the M issour i R iver, the St . Louis Airpor t , and t wo large interstates. Whi le st i l l more problems face this c i t y, my proposal for
Br idgeton focused on connec t ing vacant land that l ies in the r iver ’s f lood pla in and creat ing a greenway that per vaded the c i t y, whi le developing the industr ia l core west of the f reeway to connec t to a future f re ight hub for the
a i rpor t . Both the human and c i t y scale went into designing an attrac t ive, susta inable and r ich communit y.

Digita l Representat ion Studio focused on teaching us methods for model ing, creat ing, and lay ing out images of an ass igned bott le. This $1 spray bott le f rom Target is amazingly complex and f i l led wi l l 26 di f ferent components. I
sought to sec t ion the bott le and show i ts d i f ferent par ts . Us ing R hino and V-R ay Render, I created a 3D model of the bott le and exploded out i ts components. Final ly, us ing the lasercutter and R hino, I created a matte board model of
the bott le at 3X the scale.

SUMMER 2010At Chr istner I nc, I conduc ted research on the best-prac t ices in col lec t ing the “ Voice of the Customer ” and c l ient
inf luences in design. I c reated a “ Tool K i t ” of sur vey tools , t r icks and examples that could be implemented dur ing the design phase of future projec ts. I then implemented some of these tools on a projec t for Cardinal Glennon Chi ldren’s
Hospita l in des igning their new surger y wait-sequence. Af ter implementing the tools , we re layed the information to the c l ient and used i t to dic tate design decis ions. I worked with Projec t Manager, Shanna Wiechel AIA, to design the
centra l wait ing area and a new long-term fami ly wait ing area .

M y involvement in var ious student groups at Washington Univers i t y in St . Louis has given me the oppor tunit y to design logos and ass ist in branding and market ing the student groups I am involved in . For M r. Wash. U. , an on-
campus benef i t for Ci t yFaces, a St . Louis non-prof i t , I c reated a logo, branded website and detai led st y le guide to help def ine and dist inguish i t f rom other phi lanthropic student groups on campus.
For Architec ture School Counci l (ASC ) I developed a logo for the organizat ion and developed a branding guide for future and publ icat ion. Bauhaus, ASC ’s largest event each year, now integrated the ASC logo, ra is ing on- campus
awareness of the event and the organizat ion.
