Multi-tank cleaning systems include separate tanks for each part of the overall cleaning process. This robotic device transfers baskets from tank to tank by picking them up, and moving them to other processing tanks when required. Although automated multi-stage systems are an effective cleaning method for most applications, the design has several drawbacks, which include the following: · Most liquid tanks, such as the cleaning and rinsing tanks, are un-covered, which causes significant losses of processing fluid volume due to evaporation. Although this can be overcome by purchasing automated covers, the additional expense is considerable. · Robotic systems can only move 1 basket at a time. Since the basket pick-up device is dedicated to basket transfers, no part oscillation is typically included. Not only does oscillation of parts improve the cleaning and rinsing action significantly, it also can completely prevent ultrasonic damage to sensitive components, such as aluminum and other soft metals. · If you want to include an ultrasonic rinse in a multi- tank system, this will cost thousands of dollars extra, since each rinse tank requires its own ultrasonic components. If you are looking for an automated multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning system, the ULTRAMATIC may be yourbest equipment option. This system includes features and performance which can not be found in anymulti-stage cleaning system currently available, with a footprint and price which is sure to impress.

Multi-tank cleaning systems include separatetanks for each part of the overall cleaning

process. An ultrasonic tank is included forcleaning, two or more rinse tanks are typicallyincluded, and a drying tank is included tocomplete the process. If you wish to have anultrasonic rinse cycle, ultrasonic componentsmust be purchased and installed in the rinsetanks, which will cost several thousand dollarsof additional expense.

To automatically process parts with a multi-tankcleaning system, a robotic transfer system, such as our TRANSTAR Automation System, is required. Thisrobotic device transfers baskets from tank to tank by picking them up, and moving them to other processingtanks when required. Although automated multi-stage systems are an effective cleaning method for mostapplications, the design has several drawbacks, which include the following:

· Most liquid tanks, such as the cleaning and rinsingtanks, are un-covered, which causes significant losses ofprocessing fluid volume due to evaporation. Although thiscan be overcome by purchasing automated covers, theadditional expense is considerable.

· Robotic systems can only move 1 basket at a time.Since the basket pick-up device is dedicated tobasket transfers, no part oscillation is typicallyincluded. Not only does oscillation of partsimprove the cleaning and rinsing actionsignificantly, it also can completely preventultrasonic damage tosensitive components, suchas aluminum and other softmetals.

· If you want to include anultrasonic rinse in a multi-tank system, this will cost

thousands of dollars extra, since each rinse tank requires its own ultrasoniccomponents.

Tumbling Basket Option

· If a spray rinse is required toperform a final rinse using purifiedwater (to prevent water spotting),this will require an additionalprocessing tank and spray systemcomponents, all at additionalexpense.

· Multi-tank systems are typicallyvery large, and require significantfloor space.

· As baskets are used forcleaning processes, theycommonly distort and bend, whichleads to basket transfer failuresand jamming of the robotictransfer systems.

The design of the ULTRAMATICeliminates all of the above-listeddrawbacks of an automated multi-stagecleaning process. The ULTRAMATICdoes not require any automationsystems at all. Rather than moving partsfrom tank-to-tank, the ULTRAMATIC

transfers cleaning and rinsing fluids into a single ultrasonically-activated cleaning tank to accomplishcleaning, rinsing, and drying in a single tank without havingto move the basket at all. The result is a system that canproduce medical-quality cleaning results with a less-costlysystem that eliminates the need for robotic transfer. The process begins after a basket is placed onto thepneumatically-actuated Oscillation Platform, and a Recipe ofOperation is selected. Once selected, the basketautomatically lowers into the processing tank, the cover isautomatically closed, and the tank fills with heated cleaningfluid which is heated, filtered, and stored in a separateholding tank.

Once the tank is full, the ultrasonic system is activated toloosen contaminants from the surface of the parts. As thesecontaminants are loosened, the basket is also intermittentlyoscillated to flush loosened contaminants from blind holes, crevices, and other areas which tend to trap both liquids andcontaminants. The oscillation cycle can also completelyprevent ultrasonic damage of sensitive aluminumcomponents, even if mirror polished, and is completely user adjustable for stroke speed, stroke length, andduration.

When ultrasonic cleaning is complete, the cleaning fluid is pumped back to its holding tank to be heatedand filtered. A Spray Rinse Cycle then follows, which serves to remove detergents and residues from boththe parts being cleaned, and the walls of the ultrasonic tank.

Heated rinse fluid is then pumped into the ultrasonic tank, and the ultrasonic system is activated onceagain to provide an Ultrasonic Rinse Cycle, a costly addition to most multi-stage cleaning systems.Oscillation is also included to ensure that all part areas are fully rinsed. Deionized water can be used forthis cycle, and the system design permits attachment to any deionized water supply. If deionized water is

Page 3: Mfg & Chem. Corp

required, but unavailable, Zenith can include the optional Closed Loop Deionization System which willkeep submersion rinse water purified. Water quality monitors are also available.

Once the rinse cycle is complete, the rinse wateris pumped back to its heated holding tank, afterwhich the final Spray Rinse Cycle is activated torinse the parts with the purest possible water priorto the drying cycle. The drying cycle then followsto evaporate rinse water residues. TheULTRAMATIC includes the highest pressure, highest volume blowers in use by anymanufacturer to rapidly dry parts.

After completion of the drying cycle, the cover isautomatically opened, the basket is lifted from thetank automatically, and an indicator light isactivated to indicate that the basket can beremoved. If your parts tend to trap water, makingdrying more difficult, the hand-operated

Compressed Air Gun can be used to blast any remaining liquids from the parts prior to removal.

Although the standard ULTRAMATIC can handle all but the most high-volume cleaning applications, thereare those customers who require faster processing speeds. For these customers, the newly-designedULTRAMATIC HV would be the perfect choice. The HV includes a separate drying tank, and a small push-transfer automation system that will cut processing times in half, typically 10-15 minutes per batch, whichmatches or exceeds the performance of most automated multi-stage cleaning processes. A 2-positionqueuing load and unload conveyor is included as well.

The system is controlled with an on-board Programmable Logic Controller and Touch-screen OperatorInterface. 10 Recipes of Operation are also included to adjust processing for different part designs. Allsystem operational parameters are fully-adjustable.

No other automated multi-stage cleaning process can match the performance, size, and price of theULTRAMATIC line of cleaning systems. If you have a need for an automated cleaning system, contactZenith for a quotation on the ULTRAMATIC.
