    Itsoftenthelittlethingswedo,thosethingswedoalmostwithoutthinkingthatmakethegreatestimpact.

    Asakid,mymomalwaysleftanoteformeonthekitchentable.EverytimeIcameinthehouse,ImadeabeelinetothekitchentoseewhatMomhadleftforme,whetherIwascominghomefromschoolorcominghomelatefromanightout.Thislittleactionmadeabigimpactonme,tothepointthatevenwhenImovedawayandgotmarried,IdstillcheckthetablewhenIcamehometovisit.Tomymomitwasjustawaytocommunicatewithherchildren;tous,itwasareminderthatshelovedus.

    Iwokeuponmybirthdayoncetoanoteonthetablefrommydad.Itwasasimplething,writteninmydadshand,wishingmeahappybirthday.Iknowwedidallthenormalstuffthisbirthday(presents,cake,party),buttheonlythingIrememberisthisnoteDadhadwrittenonapieceofscratchpaper,shownhere.Itsbeenayearnowthathesbeengone,andIcherishit.

    Ihavenoticedtheselittletraditions(quirks?)inmyownfamilymykidsrelyonmetotellthemtobecarefulaftertheyhurtthemselves,tosinganodetotoastinthemorning,andsomeday,whentheygetalittleolder,toleavethemtheirownnotesonthekitchentable.

    Everydaywehaveanewopportunitytomakeabigimpressiononourkidsandonthepeopletheywillbecome.Whatwillyoudotodaytoimpactyourkids?Youveprobablyalreadydonemorethanyouknow.
