CoaCh Charles JaCkson’s Corner:I’ve been coaching 11 years for Metro Youth Sports and I enjoy watching the kids progress and watching them succeed while making sure they have good grades in school. And, with me as their coach, they have another male fi gure to talk to, to ask questions and someone they can depend on. I also enjoy watching kids play on Friday nights in high school and moving onto college. How do you tHink your team performed last season? We had an average season because I had a lot of 11 year olds on Varsity and on the JV level, I had a lot of nine and 10 year olds so they’re still learning. And, on the Pee Wee level, we had a lot of seven year olds and a lot of new players, so there’s a lot of training that needs to take place.were tHere any standout players?Yes, on my Pee Wee level we had seven year old Daion Eldridge and Varsity standouts were Jade Moore, Dillon Jackson, Gianni LaGrone and Maxwell Burney. wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?Don’t ever give up. Once you leave football, life is going to be the same and you can’t give up because you are go-ing to have hardships. So if you learn now, while you’re young, everything is not going to go your way, that will help you in your life.

CoaCh Wade raines Corner:I’ve been coaching for Metro Youth Sports for six years and it’s very fulfilling be-cause we’re role models, father figures, in partnership with their families and we share information with these young men so they can do good work at home, in school and on the field. Answering this season’s questions is Assistant Offensive and Defensive Line Coach Tony Jones.

How do you tHink your team performed last season? There were some adversity in the beginning of the season but we made it up to-wards the end, in the playoffs and we were one game away from the super bowl. were tHere any standout players? They were all standout players because they all basically came together as one on all three levels.wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?Believe in yourself to make it happen mind over body. Be conditioned to the point where you can be better every practice and every game. Have the courage to play the game because it’s a contact sport and you have to be physically and mentally able to do it to fulfill your goals of winning the Super Bowl.

CoaCh Jason roBinson’s Corner:I’ve been coaching for Metro Youth Sports for eight years and I enjoy the relations we build with the parents and kids because it’s not about the winning or loosing. These are kids that we’ll probably interact with for the rest of their lives and we’ll follow them on to college, hope-fully the pros or whatever else they do.How do you tHink your team performed last season? We did okay on JV and Pee Wee, I would have liked to go to the super bowl and win it but we did have a very good season. We only lost three games on both levels of JV and Pee Wee. On Varsity, I didn’t have a lot of kids come back for good reasons so it wasn’t the season I expected but I understood why. were tHere any standout players? As a collective group, performance wise, my Pee Wee and JV teams were very good. wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?Just keeping working together as a team family and there’s nothing we can’t go through togeth-er because it’s bigger than football. It’s building those relationships for the future, so keep work-ing at it for your team mates and keep in mind, other people rely on you and there’s nothing we can’t do together.

CoaCh sam mCCarY’s Corner:I’ve been coaching Metro Youth Sports for 15 years and I enjoy working with the kids so they can learn the sport. And, I can see good change in them because they’re be-ing disciplined and they must work hard in school. We also teach them to apply what they learn here in life. How do you tHink your team performed last season? Last season was probably the best season since I’ve been head coach. Our JV team won the super bowl and that made us coaches happy because the year before, my JV lost the Super Bowl. Winning the super bowl was something we’ve been working on for a long time and we fi nally accomplished it. The team was ecstatic about winning because they worked very hard to get there and there were a lot of great teams last year. And, our Varsity team were also in the super bowl, all three levels fi nished with a winning record. were tHere any standout players? They were all standout players.wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?Work hard at anything you chose to do and they will accomplish their goals.

liOnsCoaCh Jemal Cooper’s Corner: I’ve been coaching Metro Youth Sports for 15 years and I love it. Because I see kids getting an edu-cation, going through high school, graduating and getting scholarships to college if they’re really talented. And, to know that they all started with Metro makes me feel pretty good. Answering this year’s questions is Assistant Coach Ivan C. Upshaw.

How do you tHink your team performed last season? Pretty well because our Varsity team ended up winning the super bowl so we have a repeat from the year be-fore. Our JV and Pee Wee did okay, all and all but they had fun. were tHere any standout players?Actually, one of the positive things that had last season was, they were more of a collective whole which is a true concept of a team. So, we really didn’t have any individual players that stood out. wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team? Doing what’s right may be tough but regardless, it’s always right.

CoaCh Charlie Williams’ Corner:I’ve been coaching for Metro Youth Sports for 40 years and I enjoy it. It’s fulfi lling to see a kid develop higher standards and make something out of themselves. How do you tHink your team performed last season? I think we did a pretty job but it could have been better. We had three teams out there and that’s good but some-times, as a coach, we have to divide our attention and then something can go wrong but nothing went wrong. Also, we didn’t have the substitutions that we needed and that kind of hurt us but the kids were learning good and they played good, so I have no regrets because we’re not going to win all the time. were tHere any standout players? They were all standout players because these kids learn and they learn good. And, I think that as long as a child is playing up to their own potential or standard and are reaching the goals that they think they can, that’s a good thing. wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?Even if you get obstacles in life, that doesn’t mean it’s over for you, so don’t settle for anything. Always try to be good in whatever you do and give it your best.

That’s what I’m here and I do the best that I can to see that they progress as they go along. Answering this year’s questions is, assistant coach Domanick Hatch.

How do you tHink your team performed last season? They performed very, very well. I’m very proud of our boys and the job they did last season. Our Pee Wee won the Super Bowl, our JV was one game away from the Super Bowl and our Varsity did a good job. With Pee Wee winning the Super Bowl, we we’re very happy that at least one of our teams won it. But we know, we got to bring it back to the Varsity but it always starts with the Pee Wee. The team felt great winning, it was like a sigh of relief through the whole Rams team. were tHere any standout players? On Pee Wee, Jamarion White aka Ohio, led their team to the Super Bowl. wHat encouraging words do you Have for your team?We tell them everyday, take care of home fi rst, take care of school second and third, come out and play football all in that order. Then everything else will take care of itself but attitude is everything.

MYS Super Bowl set for Oct. 25By larry wHitt

The Metro Youth Football Super Bowl is set for Sun-day, Oct. 25 at Paul Harding Stadium.

The Pee Wee game will settle the question of who is the true champion as the undefeated Rams and Titans meet again for the title. The Rams (Tigers) and Titans (Tarheels) are both 7-0-1 as the fought to a tie in the final regular season game. The rule for the title game is play until we have a winner.

The Junior Varsity title game matches the same two programs as the 9-1 Rams meet the undefeated Titans who come into the game at 10-0.

The Varsity game also

has an undefeated team in the 11-0 Chargers will face the 9-2 Cardinals. The Chargers have over-came several challenges this season, including key injuries to lineman. The coaching staff plugged in running backs for lineman and kept it moving.

The staff credits a special unity among the players as to what has brought them this far, that and a very talented quarterback in Ronald Collins III.

The Cardinals have reeled off seven straight wins after starting the season 2-2. If you spend enough time around head coach Alex Brookshire, you will realize that he has a good mind for football but is even better at under-standing what motivates his young players.

The Cardinals played a red hot Cowboys team in the semi-finals and de-cided to play a ball control game with long drives and eating up the clock. The strategy worked as the Cardinals won 6-0 in a de-fensive struggle. The Cow-boy offense had won 31-0 over the Colts Tuesday in the play-in game and then rolled over the Lions 27-0 in the second round Satur-day behind seven touch-downs from running back Shawn Cannon. Sunday, the Cowboys were unable to get the Cardinals offense

off the field and had to play defense all of the first quarter and nearly all of the fourth quarter.
