METRO ALGIERS LINE 1, EXTENSION "B", HAI EL BADR-EL HARRACH Facts Project Description The new contract includes the construction of a 2.53 km one-tube, 2-rail tunnel (2.05 km NATM and 0.48 km in open cut construction) including inner shell of reinforced concrete, four underground stations (Bachdjarah 1, Bachdjarah 2, El Harrach Gare, El Harrach Centre), partially in open-cut, partially under top cover, two bridges (one bridge crossing over a motorway, and one pedestrian bridge over an existing railway line) and several ventilation structures. The new line extends the existing metro line from Hai el Badr in the centre of Algiers to El Harrach Centre in the eastern part of the city. The construction works are planned to last 44 months and will cover a length of four kilometers. For the tunnelling works, the NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method) is used. Since the city of Algiers features varying geological conditions, this flexible method was preferred to using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). Another reason for choosing this construction method is the comparatively short length of the sections between the stations. The four metro stations are built in open cut and partially under top cover. the underground works for the stations comprise diaphragm walls, bored piles and micro bored piles as well as their anchorings. Main quantities: Excavation: 820,000 m³ Backfilling: 167,000 m³ Concrete: 194,311 m³ Borpiles: 74,000 m³ Shotcrete: 37,000 m³ Steel: Reinforcing Bars: 21,500 to Steel: Tunnel Profile: 1,200 to Formwork: 207,000 m² Bored Piles (1.0 / 1.2): 38,800 m Diaphragm Walls: 53,500 m² Anchors: 92,900 m Precast Elements (T-Girders): 4,300 m City/Country Algier / Algeria Client Entreprise Métro d'Alger (EMA), Algier Architect SSF Ingenieure AG Contract Value € 215,00 Mio.
