The METAPHASER fiber illuminators use patent pending refractive optics and proprietary thermal design to ensure superior beam quality and efficiency and light delivery for any fiber optic system. These systems are compact in size, economically priced, and very simple to operate. Each system is factory calibrated and pre-aligned for a corresponding nose piece adapter that ensures compatibility for new and retrofit fiber based light systems. No optical adjustments are required. The proprietary digital-optical dimming control provides excellent color stability over it’s 65,000 hour rated lifetime. MetaBright LED engine features a remarkable operating efficiency, minimum heat generation and an easily replaceable modular design to protect against LED source obsolescence.

Unpacking:The METAPHASER™ comes with the following accessories:AC Power cordInstruction ManuelMetaBOSS Software DiskFiber Nose piece adapter and specified coupler

Take the unit from the box and hook-up the appropriate AC power cord. The power input module switch should be 1. checked to make sure the appropriate voltage or mains is supplied.Place the unit on the work surface being careful not to obstruct either of the fans intake or exhaust ports. Failure 2. to do so could cause loss of airflow in your unit causing the LED to engine to overheat and shutdown. The nose piece is attached using three 4mm cap screws. According to your fiber optic coupler you may need to 3. change this adapter to fit your other diameter fiber optic cables. Insert the fiber optic light guide into the adapter being sure to bottom it against the stops. 4. Tighten the thumbscrew on the fiber coupler to secure the fiber guide in place.5. Plug the AC cable into the mains and switch the power on. The power switch is located on the back panel.6. The unit should come on to its minimum default preset or whatever setting was in memory from the last shut 7. down. (Observe safety notes)

Unit Setup & Operation:Attach the provided METAPHASER™ Fiber Illuminator to the coupler in the front faceplate• Apply 120-220V power to rear of MetaPhaser™ unit. Set the toggle power switch to the ON position. • (See safety note)

• approximately 2 seconds after turn on.The first screen indicates the METAPHASER™ model number and current firmware version.• The second screen will indicate the METAPHASER’s™ IP address. This screen is only relevant to • METAPHASER’s™ that are used in an Ethernet Network configuration. The IP address is set using the switches below the LCD screen and can only change the IP address while the IP Address Screen is displayed. Interface:Ethernet Control of METAPHASER™The METAPHASER™ is able to be controlled remotely via MetaBOSS (internal software) over ethernet. The METAPHASER™ and MetaBOSS have been configured to have a default IP address of 172.16.1.1. Connection between the METAPHASER™ and the remote terminal (PC) over a standard CAT-5 cable (not furnished as part of unit). Cable connections are hot-swappable.

Once connected, the MetaBOSS remote terminal may be used to raise and lower the METAPHASER’s™ light level from 0 to 100%.

RS-232 Control of METAPHASER™The METAPHASER™ is able to be controlled remotely via MetaBOSS (internal software) using RS-232 communications. The default communications protocol is 38400, 9, N, 1. Connection between the METAPHASER™ and MetaBOSS is over a standard RS-232 cable using a DB-9 connector (not furnished as part of unit). Cable connections are hot-swappable.

Once connected, the MetaBOSS remote terminal may be used to raise and lower the METAPHASER’s™ light level from 0 to 100%.

Additionally, custom-written or 3rd party applications, such as Windows HyperTerminal, may be used to control the METAPHASER™ using RS-232. The following commands are provided for the purpose:

‘U’ – raises the light level by a 1% increment. The METAPHASER™ automatically responds with the light level in human readable format. For example, if the light level is 86%, the METAPHASER™ will respond with an ’86’.

‘D’ – lowers the light level by a 1% decrement. The METAPHASER™ automatically responds with the current light level in human readable format.

‘u’ – raises the light level by a 1% increment. The METAPHASER™ does not respond.

‘d’ – lowers the light level by a 1% decrement. The METAPHASER™ does not respond.

‘+’ – raises the light level by a 1% increment. The METAPHASER™ automatically responds with the light level in a single hex byte binary format.

‘-’ – lowers the light level by a 1% decrement. The METAPHASER™ automatically responds with the light level in a single hex byte binary format.

Maintenance:The outside surface of the METAPHASER™ should be wiped with a suitable surface cleaner and lint free cloth for cleaning.

Lens: Periodically check the lens for dirt or lint and remove as necessary with clean compressed gas or a suitable • lens cloth or tissue to avoid scratchesFan: Intake and exhaust ports should be kept free of dust and debris which would block or impeded the fans • airflow. Other air flow vents may be kept clear by vacuuming.

Failure of LED to Light up. -Check power cord source-Check that the unit’s power switch is ‘ON’

Fails to initialize. -Reset power switch

Control buttons do not function. -Use MetaBOSS capability to check remote control operations.

If MetaBOSS is not providing remote control of METAPHASER™- Check Ethernet connection.

If MetaBOSS is not providing remote control of METAPHASER™- Check RS-232 connection.
