Dear Parents

Inspection

I am pleased to announce that the inspection went extremely well. I would like to thank parents and pupils for their very positive re-

sponses to the questionnaire sent last Friday. The report will be published in the next six weeks and will focus entirely on compliance.

Under the new framework, the school receives two inspections spaced three years apart. The first looks at compliance and the second,

which we will expect in September 2019, will look at the quality of education. As such, the report will be relatively bland and will focus

on how the school implements its policies. Throughout the week the pupils have been an absolute credit to the school; I would like to

thank them and the teaching and support staff for ensuring the school was at its absolute best.

Prize Giving

Thank you to all those parents who attended prize giving. It was lovely to see the City Hall so full. It was a pleasure to hear the experi-

ences of Ibrar Ali and to hear about his time in Iraq. Congratulations to all the prize winners and, of course, to those who did not win

prizes YET.— please ask your child what I mean by this!

Pavilion

The work has started on the pavilion this week and this has meant that the new car park will be out of action for a few weeks.

Calendar Dates

I would like to bring to your attention the new end of term arrangements starting this academic year. On 15 December, 31 March and 7

July the school will close at 12 noon. The provisional dates for the academic year 2017-2018 can now be found on the school website.

Team Uganda 2017

It's that time of year when we are starting to think about going to Uganda next July. Team Uganda have a lot of fundraising plans already but we need YOU to support us! There will be Krispy Kreme doughnut stalls in the Refectory every other Friday with 50% of the funds raised going to Uganda. We will be hav-ing raffles and bake sales at the Christ-mas Fair and at school concerts/plays so please buy tickets from us and if you can also donate prizes then we would really appreciate it. We are also going to be setting up a Team Uganda lottery - fur-ther details will follow. Ideally, we would also like to take things to give to the Ugandan children - in particular we need new condition baby and young chil-dren's clothing and new toys (preferably small and lightweight ones). If you would like to donate any of those, any raffle prizes or simply make a cash dona-tion, they can be sent into school to Mrs Asbury, Miss Groves or Mr Windeatt. Your continued support is, as always, greatly appreciated. All fundraisers will appear in the newsletters and on the Twitter feed. Thank you!

Pavilion update

Work will start early on Thursday morn-ing for site set up, demolition will begin Monday. There may be some disruption over the coming weeks to install services to the new building we will however, try to keep this to a minimum. Due for com-pletion all going well (i.e. no weather disruption) by February 2017. AK

Research Homework

As part of our strategy to encourage pupils to take some responsibility for

their own learn-ing and increase their inquisitive-ness and quest for knowledge, teachers will quite often ask pupils to re-

search a particular topic or theme for homework. We would encourage par-ents to have a look at the work their sons and daughters are doing – a simple copy and paste of information is not a useful homework or a good learning experience. Best practice would be for pupils to read the material and then put it in their own words. Plagiarism should be avoided at all costs as it establishes bad habits. Research homework in-volves many different skills and should be a valuable learning experience. ADN

Ski Trip – February 2017

There is one place available on the ski trip to Italy during February half term. This will be offered on a first come first served basis. For more information please contact Mr Windeatt.

Leaver Destinations 2016

Once again the school can report a successful outcome for all our recent leavers with 84% choosing to continue their educa-tion at university and 3% through Higher Level Apprenticeships. The remainder have opted for employment (2%) or a working GAP Year (11%) with a view to continuing their education in 2017 with experience. Of those pupils applying for university plac-es, 87% were offered places at their firm choice universities including 34% Russell Group , 9% were offered places at the their insurance choice universities and the remaining 4% through Clearing, leaving no pupils unplaced. Continuing the trend of suc-cessful applications for Medicine, a special mention for Emily Heaton and Niall Ubhi who both secured places at their firm choice institution, Hull York Medical School. We extend our congratulations to all our leavers and wish them well for the fu-ture.
