I recently had the chance to interview 3rd

grade

student, Salma Mubarak, about her class’ amazing

community project!

What’s the purpose of your community project? We were reading a book called “Roxaboxen” and it

was about a community. We then had to create our

own communities.

What was your favorite part of creating this

project? Making the people. That was the most

enjoyable part!

What did you learn that was new to you? The

important role that every place has in our community.

Message from Sr. Naima…..

Dear Parents and Students

As salaamu alaikum,

It is my pleasure to be a part of such a noble mission, and to serve you

as the Vice Principal at Bayaan Academy. Bayaan Academy is unique

in that we have endeavored to combine, in essence, what would be two

full-time programs (Hifdh/Qur’aanic Studies and Academics) into one.

By the grace of Allah, we are successfully establishing this mission.

As the full-time person in charge of the Academic program that we

have undertaken at Bayaan, I can honestly tell you that with such a

substantial initiative, we have not compromised our pursuit of

excellence. Our students are being provided with curricula that

stimulate, as well as challenge them. In this short first semester of

the 2017-2018 school year, students have participated in a variety of

activities and projects. Students were able to go on two field trips,

complete one project for each of their classes, and participate in

extracurricular groups. Our list of Honor Roll students attests to the

fact that the students have lived up to the challenges presented to them.

We are now at our halfway mark, and are all looking forward to

striving together to continue to have a successful school year.

We truly appreciate the dedication and care that each and every one

of our parents have shown in supporting Bayaan Academy.

Jazakum Allahu khairun.

StudentCam Project! Maarij

Mustafa shared some

information on it, during

our interview.

Acade m ics

What is the project about? The project is about

creating a short 5-7-minute video documentary on a

topic related to, “The Constitution and You.” You

have to find about a problem in the world that is related

to the constitution and come up with a solution for that

problem.

How have the students tied in the theme citizenship?

The overall project has to be connected to "the

constitution and you." So in addition to how FEMA can

improve, and what new legislation can be implemented,

we offer some ideas on how the common citizen can help

in times of disasters to offset the overload of FEMA.

Why are you doing this project and what is it on? We

are doing this project on FEMA debt which is a very big

dilemma due to the recent natural disasters that have

struck America and have caused millions of dollars’

worth of damage.

What is your favorite part about this project? My

favorite part about this project is learning how to make

the video and actually flming it. I love this part since I

have never thought about making a video until now.

Ms. June’s 1st

Grade By Dalaal Khalid

This year, Ms. June’s 1st grade class is doing something new

for Show and Tell. Each time they take part in it, they will be

asked to practice a different skill. For example, students were

asked to write several clues to help their classmates guess what

their item was. The kids wrote smart hints that described

their item’s appearance, texture, or sound. This was great

because it gave them more writing practice. They are enjoying

the experience because it has also given them the chance to

develop their public speaking skills. When they are given the

I recently had the chance to interview

Bayaan student, Dana Jureyda, about her

English/social studies project. Here is what

she had to say:

What is the project about? We are running a

campaign where we try to get elected to be

president. If I become president, I hope

everybody will respect me as a leader.

What is fun about the project? I get to be

creative when I make my campaign posters and

I get to come up with a fun, catchy slogan.

What are you learning about, that made you

and your class do this project? We learned

about citizenship and how it is important to be

involved in the government.

What is educational about the project? It

teaches you how to be a persuasive speaker

and writer, and to gain confidence in yourself!

opportunity to talk in front of their

peers, they become more confident in

their abilities. It was very nice meeting

with the 1st graders and hearing all

about their Show & Tell work!

Br. Alman’s 5th grade class has learned

about parenthesis and exponents, along

with fractions. We have covered how to

add, subtract, multiply and divide

fractions. Our class has even done

fractions in word problems. We like

learning new stuff and are trying our

best to master fractions. One of the

toughest parts has been understanding

how to solve word problems. However,

practice has helped us get better!

Message from Sr. Dalia……

Dear Parents and Students,

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

I am pleased to see the first Bayaan Times Newsletter come to the light, thanks to Sr. Lobna and her newsletter team, and to all our precious students and unique teachers who continue to make great things happen at Bayaan Academy.

I would like to highlight some features of the Qur’an, Arabic, and Islamic education components of the Hifdh program. We believe in demonstrating,

modeling, and allowing in-school practice time for every skill we wish for our students to master. We adopt “Talqeen” to make sure their first attempt to

study the new Ayas is based on proper pronunciation. Hifdh is coupled with understanding of the wisdom in what they memorize. The Arabic program is

geared towards understanding the Holy Qur’an. Rather than “teaching” the importance of keeping healthy habits, like the Sunnah of praying Duha or

reciting Surat Al-Kahf, we make time for it in their daily routine to establish such healthy habits. Our Seerah and Arabic classes have also engaged in a

cross-curriculum theme discussion of “Citizenship,” as the students encountered it in social studies. Our team strives to engage the students in Tajweed,

Tafseer, Seerah, and Arabic activities that will give them better educational opportunities and invest in their creativity. Sr. Huda Taji, Sr. Amal Dashoush,

and Sr. Awaz Akrayi implement the above policies in teaching the 1st -3rd grade students. They teach with a great deal of love and devotion, and continue

to do so with the higher elementary and middle school students. Sister Amal is a teacher who always exceeds my expectations in advancing her students’

Hifdh. With an “Ear of Gold,” she insures proper pronunciation and teaches Tajweed to her students and Sr. Huda’s students. Sr. Huda prepares

remarkable Tafseer worksheets, highlighting the Ayat’s moral and Aqida lessons, to better instill them in the minds and hearts of her and Sr. Amal’s

Students. Sr. Huda is a teacher who always goes the extra mile to give her students their best learning opportunities. Sister Awaz, with her loving approach and tedious follow up, makes sure that no student is left behind. Her success with new students is nothing less than fantastic!

Students enjoy the truly rewarding daily Halaqah of the 40 Nawawi Hadeeth and Islamic Education with Ustath Ibrahim Nass, the mentor of the Mahara

group and an inspiration for all Bayaan students. A bright educator and a pious role model, Ustath Ibrahim continues to influence the students beyond

school time. He constantly creates opportunities for the students to gather for fun activities, as well as for educational and Qiyam events.

This is the least I can say about our wonderful team. I would love to read your words, students and parents, if you have a personal experience with one of the Hifdh teachers. I would also love to listen to your concerns and suggestions.

Jazakum Allahu khairun.

Dalia El Deeb,

Director of Hifdh Program at Bayaan Academy

Last month, the Maharah group completed a very special

project. We were assigned to make a game designed to help

the lower level students practice the alternate and original

signs of Iraab. The game that Maarij Mustafa and I created

was called IRAAB CHAMP. This game was similar to bingo,

where the player has to get 3 matches of words that express

the desired signs of Iraab. The decisions are based on the

commands on the dice. Players can also start a secondary

game, on the spare board, after they finish the first. On the

dice, there is also a Play Twice side and a Switch side. The

Switch side means that you have to switch boards and the

Play Twice side simply means the player gets to go again.

Overall, I found this game to be the most eye-catching.

Another interesting game was STACK IT, by Ahmad Dibo

and Rayan Birjas. In order to win, you had to stack all your

squares first. This game had so many different types of

colored squares and was fun to play!

Br. Ibrahim’s Morning Dkhir Circle

By Waad Ibrahim

Every morning, Br. Ibrahim has a

Thikr circle where we remember

Allah by saying a few ayat and

duaas. This includes Ayatul

Kursi, Surat Al-Nas, and Salawat

for the Prophet Muhammad

(SAW). This greatly helps us

start our day with a refreshed

mind. On Fridays, we read Surat

ul- Kahf, which is Sunnah. We

are truly blessed to be able to do

this every day.
