With 10 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles ofquality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics theMetro Atlantic Athletic Conference is in its 32nd year of competitionduring the 2012-2013 academic year

The MAAC was founded in 1980 by six charter members the USMilitary Academy Fairfield University Fordham University Iona Col-lege Manhattan College and Saint Peterrsquos College Competition fol-lowed one year later in the fall of 1981 with members competing inthe sports of menrsquos cross country and menrsquos soccer On January 21982 Army traveled to Iona for the first MAAC menrsquos basketballgame and the MAAC story had begun

Current Conference members include Canisius College FairfieldUniversity Iona College Loyola University Maryland Manhattan Col-lege Marist College Niagara University Rider University SaintPeterrsquos University and Siena College In addition associate mem-bers include the University of Detroit Mercy Jacksonville Universityand Virginia Military Institute in menrsquos lacrosse St Francis (NY)College Villanova University VMI and Wagner College are all asso-ciate members of the MAAC Womenrsquos Water Polo League DrakeUniversity Jacksonville University Robert Morris University and Sa-cred Heart University compete in womenrsquos rowing while the Univer-sity at Albany Boston University and the University of Hartford begancompetition in womenrsquos golf in the spring of 2010 The MAAC willsupport 24 sports and championships during the 2012-2013 aca-demic year[ The MAAC has automatic qualification to 15 NCAAChampionships with the MAAC being eligible for womenrsquos rowing forthe first time in the spring of 2013]

The MAAC Basketball Championships returns to Springfieldrsquos Mass-Mutual Center for the 2013 and 2014 championships which will beco-hosted by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Byhaving an excellent working relationship with various facilities theMAAC has been able to attract a number of NCAA Championshipevents Most recently the MAAC and Rider hosted the 2012 NCAARowing Championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor New Jer-sey The MAAC and Rider also co-hosted the 2011 NCAA Division IWrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in PhiladelphiaThe MAAC Canisius College and Niagara University successfullyhosted the 2010 NCAA Division I Menrsquos Basketball ChampionshipFirst and Second Rounds at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo New York

All three parties hosted the event in 2004 and 2007 The MAACand Rider University co-hosted the 2009 NCAA Division I WomenrsquosBasketball Championship Regional at the SovereignBank Arena in Trenton NJ after recording the third highest atten-dance figure for the womenrsquos championship with the First and Sec-ond Rounds in 2006 The MAAC and Rider will work together toco-host the 2013 NCAA Division I Womenrsquos Basketball Champi-onship Regional at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton

MAAC Associate Sports

In June of 1995 the MAAC continued to develop opportunities forstudent-athletes as the conference announced the formation of theMAAC Mens and Womens Lacrosse Leagues The mens leaguebegan competition in the spring of 1996 while the womens leaguecommenced in the spring of 1997 The mens league consists offour MAAC schools - Canisius Manhattan Marist and Siena - andthree associate members - Detroit Jacksonville and Virginia MilitaryInstitute The womens league consists of MAAC institutions Cani-sius Fairfield Iona Manhattan Marist Niagara and Siena

In 2002 the MAAC added the MAAC Womens Water Polo LeagueThe league is currently made up of three MAAC schools - IonaMarist and Siena - as well as four associate members St Francis(NY) Villanova VMI and Wagner

Sacred Heart started participating in MAAC Womens Rowing in thespring of 2008 Drake University joined the league for the 2010MAAC Championship while Robert Morris began competition in thespring of 2011

In the summer of 2009 the MAAC added three associate members- Albany Boston University and Hartford - to womens golf with theprograms starting competition against MAAC members Fairfield Ni-agara and Siena in 2009-2010 Butler University was also added inthe summer of 2012 giving the MAAC seven teams competing inwomens golf

For the first time in league history an associate member was addedin mens swimming amp diving when Bryant University joined theleague in the summer of 2012Womenrsquos Basketball is one of the 24 sports in which the

MAAC crowns a champion

The MAAC combines traditional members with associate members inmenrsquos lacrosse womenrsquos water polo womenrsquos golf and womenrsquos row-ing

Academics and Athletics

The MAAC prides itself on the accomplishments of its student-ath-letes in the classroom as well as on the field Mary Beth Riley a1991 graduate of Canisius was the first recipient of the NCAAWoman of the Year Award In the fall of 1998 Erin Whalen a mem-ber of the Iona womenrsquos rowing team was awarded one of the na-tionrsquos 32 Rhodes Scholarships for academic achievement and civicleadership Jose Vargas a Loyola student was also awarded aRhodes Scholarship in 1999

First-class facilities are the rule with MAAC schools as teams regu-larly play in top-notch arenas such as Madison Square Garden theMassMutual Center the IZOD Center First Niagara Center TimesUnion Center the Webster Bank Arena and the Sun National BankCenter The other MAAC championships boast their share of out-standing locales as well such as the Reverend Harold Ridley SJAthletic Complex at Loyola where the menrsquos soccer championshipwill be contested in the fall of 2012 and Waterfront Park in TrentonNew Jersey home of the 2013 MAAC Baseball Championship Thisyear the MAAC will take the menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countrychampionships to Orlando Florida at the ESPN Wide World ofSports Complex The 2013 MAAC Menrsquos and Womenrsquos Golf Cham-pionships will be held at Disneyrsquos Palm Golf Course

In the past several years a number of the MAAC schools have alsoenjoyed success in NCAA Championships MAAC schools havemade a total of 80 NIT appearances and 50 NCAA appearancesFor the first time in 16 years the MAAC had two teams advance tothe NCAA Division I Menrsquos Basketball Championship with Loyolaearning the leaguersquos automatic bid and Iona garnering an at-largebid In March 2012 Fairfield and Manhattan participated in the Col-legeInsidercom Postseason Tournament with the Stags advancingto the semifinals The Manhattan women participated in theWomenrsquos Basketball Invitational reaching the semifinal round of thetournament for the second consecutive season In 2007 the Maristwomenrsquos basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling tothe eventual National Champion the University of Tennessee TheRed Foxes have recorded five NCAA wins since their runs in 2007In the fall of 2011 the Iona mens cross country team finished tied for

The MAAC has also been a leader in the forefront of technologyexpanding the notoriety of the league into cyberspace In 2007 theleague reached an agreement with JumpTV Inc now NeuLionInc to design and host the MAAC web page MAACSportscomhas been a great success providing fans with up-to-date contestresults live and on-demand video and an online merchandisestore The MAAC in conjunction with NeuLion launched aniPhone app in February 2011 followed by Android and iPad appsthat were released during the 2011-12 academic yearIn September 2011 the conference announced the launch ofMAACTV the leagues first broadband network Six schools ndash Can-isius Iona Manhattan Marist Rider and Saint Peters ndash are cur-rently part of the network which broadcast over 400 live events in2011-12

Richard J Ensor was named thethird Commissioner of the Metro At-lantic Athletic Conference in August1988 In the 24 years since his appoint-ment Ensor has provided leadership tothe conference in a period of transitionand growth in intercollegiate athleticsand the MAAC During his tenure theMAAC has secured a stable member-ship base expanded the number ofchampionships conducted and devel-oped an extensive marketing programcemented with broadcast agreementswith ESPN a web paged hosted byJumpTV Sports and partner champi-onship venues such as the TimesUnion Center the USTA Tennis CenterWaterfront Park and Disney Sports At-tractions The reconstituted conference

is a homogenous association of 10 private institutions of similar size whichare committed to student-athlete excellence both on the playing fields andin the classroomUnder Ensorrsquos direction the MAAC has focused efforts to showcase itsmember institutions in its annual menrsquos and womenrsquos basketball tourna-ment Since 1990 with the support of the MAAC Council of Presidents andthe leaguersquos athletic administrators and coaches the MAAC has held its pre-mier event in state of the art playing facilities such as the Times Union Cen-ter in Albany NY the HSBC Arena in Buffalo NY the Sovereign Bank Arenain Trenton NJ and the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport CT The 2010championship will be hosted at the Times Union Center and the 2011 cham-pionship at the Arena at Harbor Yard

Ensor has also been instrumental in the expansion of MAACsports offerings In 1992 the MAAC added womenrsquos soccer in 1996 menrsquoslacrosse and in 1997 womenrsquos lacrosse menrsquos and womenrsquos indoor trackand rowing In 1998 the MAAC added outdoor track and field and womenrsquosgolf and in 2002-03 it added womenrsquos water polo The league currentlysponsors 24 sports and is awarded automatic or play-in bids to 14 NCAAchampionships [baseball softball tennis (mampw) menrsquos golf basketball(mampw) outdoor track (mampw) lacrosse (mampw) soccer (mampw) water polo (w)and volleyball (w)] Additionally MAAC menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countryhave access to the NCAA championship through a regional qualifier raceOver half the MAAC sponsored sports now have direct access to NCAAChampionships for the first time in the history of the conference (Up from13 sports and two automatic bids in 1988)

In 2007 Ensor extended his involvement with championship oper-ations when he was appointed to a 5-year term on the NCAA Division IWomenrsquos Basketball Committee The committee is charged with annuallyselecting teams seeding bracketing and operating the NCAAWomenrsquosBasketball Championship including the Final Four which will be hosted in2010 in San Antonio TX

To award its fans arena partners and membership the MAACduring Ensorrsquos tenure has been very aggressive in seeking out opportuni-ties to host NCAA Championships in various sports With member schools ithas served as a co-host of the 1995 2000 2004 and 2007 NCAAMenrsquosBasketball Tournament First and Second Rounds at the Times Union Cen-ter and the HSBC Arena (again the host for the 2010 1st amp 2nd rounds) re-spectively and the 2003 NCAAMenrsquos Basketball East Regional at theAlbany NY arena and the 2003 NCAAMenrsquos Frozen Four at the Buffalovenue Additionally the MAAC co-hosted the 1998 2000 2003 2004 amp2006 NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regional at Van Cortlandt Park -Bronx NY In 2002 the MAAC was a co-host of the NCAA Division IWrestling Championship at the Times Union Center All the NCAAmenrsquoschampionships the MAAC has hosted with its arena partners have beensellouts The MAAC co-hosted the NCAAWomenrsquos Basketball TournamentFirst and Second Rounds at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton NJ in2006 and then hosted the Trenton Regional at the same site in 2009 In2011 the MAAC will host the NCAAWresting Championship again this timeat the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia PA

Ensor who spearheads the leaguersquos marketing efforts hassought to tie the conferencersquos strong academic image into its marketingcampaign The MAAC has carved a well-earned niche as an athletic confer-ence that balances quality academics and athletics The marketing effortshave been timely as it has highlighted the conferencersquos continued rise inthe basketball standings Ensor has aggressively pushed the MAAC into in-ternet-based marketing through its award winning web page wwwmaac-sportscom and other technology driven initiatives Community relationsbased programs have also been central to the MAACrsquos enhanced outreachmarketing These have included the FYE Campus Tour Girls in the Gamethe WBCArsquos Pink Zone program MAAC Gives Back and MAAC BusBrigade program

In 1998 the MAAC under Ensorrsquos direction began a new market-ing and championship initiative when it entered into a multi-year agreementwith Disney Sports Attractions to host on a rotating basis at the

Orlando FL facility the conferencersquos volleyball menrsquos soccer menrsquos ampwomenrsquos cross country and womenrsquos soccer championships From2000 through 2008 the MAAC held its annual menrsquos and womenrsquos golfchampionship at Disney The golf championship is currently held atCelebration Golf Club in Celebration FL

In 2006 the MAAC expanded its partnership with Disneywhen it entered into a multi-year hosting agreement with ESPN tosponsor the Old Spice Menrsquos Basketball Classic in Orlando The 2009Old Spice Classic to be held on Thanksgiving weekend at the MilkHouse at Disneyrsquos Wide World of Sports will include 12 games in threedays and will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPNU The 2009 OldSpice Classic field includes eight teams Alabama Baylor CreightonFlorida State Iona Marquette Michigan and Xavier Each team willcompete in one game per day advancing through a bracket-tourna-ment format

The MAACrsquos relationship with ESPN was further strength-ened in 2006 when Ensor negotiated a full partnership in the well re-garded ESPNU BracketBusters event Started in 2003BracketBusters has become a major tool for evaluating mid majorteams in preparation for NCAA Championship selection three weekslater All ten MAAC menrsquos basketball teams participate in the 2010event that will include 11 broadcasts on ESPN platforms the weekendof February 19

A 1975 graduate of Saint Peterrsquos College Ensor was namedAssistant Director of the Recreation Life Center at his alma matershortly after graduation a position he held until 1978 He was thennamed Assistant Athletic Director at St Louis University before return-ing to Saint Peterrsquos a year later This time Ensor held the position ofSports Information Director with a number of publications during histhree-year tenure earning honors from the College Sports InformationDirectors of America In 1982 Ensor decided to return to school andearned his Masterrsquos degree in sports management with honors fromthe University of Massachusetts Amherst An attorney Ensor gradu-ated from Seton Hall Universityrsquos School of Law in 1987 and was ad-mitted to the New Jersey Bar in June of that year Ensor occasionallyteaches a course on sports law at Seton Hall Law School Ensor wasnamed Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Promotions atSeton Hall in 1985 before returning to Massachusetts as an AssistantProfessor in the Sport Management Department where his concentra-tion was on sports marketing and sports law

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a memberof sport-related associations such as the Sports Lawyers Associationthe New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Committee the AmericanBar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports IndustriesNACDA and the CAANJ His community work includes current stintsas a board member of the Mercer County Sports amp EntertainmentCommission and the Monsignor Donovan High School Leadership Ad-visory Committee He has published in the areas of Sport Law andSport Marketing In 1994 Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey BarAssociation Sport Law Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as President ofthe association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA governancesince 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAA Division IManagement Councila segment of the newnational governing systemfor the intercollegiate sports association He currently chairrsquos theCouncilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor had previously served onthe old NCAA Council and in January 1996 he served as Chair of theDivision I-AA NCAA ConventionBusiness Session In 1997 he begana two-year term on the NCAA Division I Championships Cabinetwhere he chaired the exempted events sub committee Ensor has alsoserved on the NCAA Division IAA Governance Committee and onNCAA committees dealing with playing season exemptions athleticcertification the regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restruc-turing and antitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 toa one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003 he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey Colle-giate Commissioners AssociationIn 2001 Ensor was named by the American Football Foundation as itsCommissioner of the Year and in 1999 he was presented a Distin-guished Service Award form the Metropolitan Basketball Writers and in1998 was inducted into the Saint Peterrsquos College Hall of Fame In1996 the University of Massachusetts Amherst Sport ManagementProgram named Ensor as the recipient of the VanderZwaag Distin-guished Alumnus Award In 1989 the Association of Jesuit Collegesand Universities named Ensor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in itsBicentennial Series publication In 1993 Ensor was honored byNACWA as a ldquoGood Guyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity

The MAAC prides itself on the accomplishments of its student-ath-letes in the classroom as well as on the field Mary Beth Riley a1991 graduate of Canisius was the first recipient of the NCAAWoman of the Year Award In the fall of 1998 Erin Whalen a mem-ber of the Iona womenrsquos rowing team was awarded one of the na-tionrsquos 32 Rhodes Scholarships for academic achievement and civicleadership Jose Vargas a Loyola student was also awarded aRhodes Scholarship in 1999

First-class facilities are the rule with MAAC schools as teams regu-larly play in top-notch arenas such as Madison Square Garden theMassMutual Center the IZOD Center First Niagara Center TimesUnion Center the Webster Bank Arena and the Sun National BankCenter The other MAAC championships boast their share of out-standing locales as well such as the Reverend Harold Ridley SJAthletic Complex at Loyola where the menrsquos soccer championshipwill be contested in the fall of 2012 and Waterfront Park in TrentonNew Jersey home of the 2013 MAAC Baseball Championship Thisyear the MAAC will take the menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countrychampionships to Orlando Florida at the ESPN Wide World ofSports Complex The 2013 MAAC Menrsquos and Womenrsquos Golf Cham-pionships will be held at Disneyrsquos Palm Golf Course

Richard J Ensor was named thethird Commissioner of the Metro At-lantic Athletic Conference in August1988 In the 24 years since his appoint-ment Ensor has provided leadership tothe conference in a period of transitionand growth in intercollegiate athleticsand the MAAC During his tenure theMAAC has secured a stable member-ship base expanded the number ofchampionships conducted and devel-oped an extensive marketing programcemented with broadcast agreementswith ESPN a web paged hosted byJumpTV Sports and partner champi-onship venues such as the TimesUnion Center the USTA Tennis CenterWaterfront Park and Disney Sports At-tractions The reconstituted conference

is a homogenous association of 10 private institutions of similar size whichare committed to student-athlete excellence both on the playing fields andin the classroomUnder Ensorrsquos direction the MAAC has focused efforts to showcase itsmember institutions in its annual menrsquos and womenrsquos basketball tourna-ment Since 1990 with the support of the MAAC Council of Presidents andthe leaguersquos athletic administrators and coaches the MAAC has held its pre-mier event in state of the art playing facilities such as the Times Union Cen-ter in Albany NY the HSBC Arena in Buffalo NY the Sovereign Bank Arenain Trenton NJ and the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport CT The 2010championship will be hosted at the Times Union Center and the 2011 cham-pionship at the Arena at Harbor Yard

Ensor has also been instrumental in the expansion of MAACsports offerings In 1992 the MAAC added womenrsquos soccer in 1996 menrsquoslacrosse and in 1997 womenrsquos lacrosse menrsquos and womenrsquos indoor trackand rowing In 1998 the MAAC added outdoor track and field and womenrsquosgolf and in 2002-03 it added womenrsquos water polo The league currentlysponsors 24 sports and is awarded automatic or play-in bids to 14 NCAAchampionships [baseball softball tennis (mampw) menrsquos golf basketball(mampw) outdoor track (mampw) lacrosse (mampw) soccer (mampw) water polo (w)and volleyball (w)] Additionally MAAC menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countryhave access to the NCAA championship through a regional qualifier raceOver half the MAAC sponsored sports now have direct access to NCAAChampionships for the first time in the history of the conference (Up from13 sports and two automatic bids in 1988)

In 2007 Ensor extended his involvement with championship oper-ations when he was appointed to a 5-year term on the NCAA Division IWomenrsquos Basketball Committee The committee is charged with annuallyselecting teams seeding bracketing and operating the NCAAWomenrsquosBasketball Championship including the Final Four which will be hosted in2010 in San Antonio TX

In 1998 the MAAC under Ensorrsquos direction began a new market-ing and championship initiative when it entered into a multi-year agreementwith Disney Sports Attractions to host on a rotating basis at the

Orlando FL facility the conferencersquos volleyball menrsquos soccer menrsquos ampwomenrsquos cross country and womenrsquos soccer championships From2000 through 2008 the MAAC held its annual menrsquos and womenrsquos golfchampionship at Disney The golf championship is currently held atCelebration Golf Club in Celebration FL

In 2006 the MAAC expanded its partnership with Disneywhen it entered into a multi-year hosting agreement with ESPN tosponsor the Old Spice Menrsquos Basketball Classic in Orlando The 2009Old Spice Classic to be held on Thanksgiving weekend at the MilkHouse at Disneyrsquos Wide World of Sports will include 12 games in threedays and will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPNU The 2009 OldSpice Classic field includes eight teams Alabama Baylor CreightonFlorida State Iona Marquette Michigan and Xavier Each team willcompete in one game per day advancing through a bracket-tourna-ment format

A 1975 graduate of Saint Peterrsquos College Ensor was namedAssistant Director of the Recreation Life Center at his alma matershortly after graduation a position he held until 1978 He was thennamed Assistant Athletic Director at St Louis University before return-ing to Saint Peterrsquos a year later This time Ensor held the position ofSports Information Director with a number of publications during histhree-year tenure earning honors from the College Sports InformationDirectors of America In 1982 Ensor decided to return to school andearned his Masterrsquos degree in sports management with honors fromthe University of Massachusetts Amherst An attorney Ensor gradu-ated from Seton Hall Universityrsquos School of Law in 1987 and was ad-mitted to the New Jersey Bar in June of that year Ensor occasionallyteaches a course on sports law at Seton Hall Law School Ensor wasnamed Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Promotions atSeton Hall in 1985 before returning to Massachusetts as an AssistantProfessor in the Sport Management Department where his concentra-tion was on sports marketing and sports law

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a memberof sport-related associations such as the Sports Lawyers Associationthe New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Committee the AmericanBar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports IndustriesNACDA and the CAANJ His community work includes current stintsas a board member of the Mercer County Sports amp EntertainmentCommission and the Monsignor Donovan High School Leadership Ad-visory Committee He has published in the areas of Sport Law andSport Marketing In 1994 Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey BarAssociation Sport Law Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as President ofthe association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA governancesince 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAA Division IManagement Councila segment of the newnational governing systemfor the intercollegiate sports association He currently chairrsquos theCouncilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor had previously served onthe old NCAA Council and in January 1996 he served as Chair of theDivision I-AA NCAA ConventionBusiness Session In 1997 he begana two-year term on the NCAA Division I Championships Cabinetwhere he chaired the exempted events sub committee Ensor has alsoserved on the NCAA Division IAA Governance Committee and onNCAA committees dealing with playing season exemptions athleticcertification the regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restruc-turing and antitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 toa one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003 he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey Colle-giate Commissioners AssociationIn 2001 Ensor was named by the American Football Foundation as itsCommissioner of the Year and in 1999 he was presented a Distin-guished Service Award form the Metropolitan Basketball Writers and in1998 was inducted into the Saint Peterrsquos College Hall of Fame In1996 the University of Massachusetts Amherst Sport ManagementProgram named Ensor as the recipient of the VanderZwaag Distin-guished Alumnus Award In 1989 the Association of Jesuit Collegesand Universities named Ensor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in itsBicentennial Series publication In 1993 Ensor was honored byNACWA as a ldquoGood Guyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a memberof sport-related associations such as the Sports Lawyers Associationthe New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Committee the AmericanBar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports IndustriesNACDA and the CAANJ His community work includes current stintsas a board member of the Mercer County Sports amp EntertainmentCommission and the Monsignor Donovan High School Leadership Ad-visory Committee He has published in the areas of Sport Law andSport Marketing In 1994 Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey BarAssociation Sport Law Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as President ofthe association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA governancesince 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAA Division IManagement Councila segment of the newnational governing systemfor the intercollegiate sports association He currently chairrsquos theCouncilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor had previously served onthe old NCAA Council and in January 1996 he served as Chair of theDivision I-AA NCAA ConventionBusiness Session In 1997 he begana two-year term on the NCAA Division I Championships Cabinetwhere he chaired the exempted events sub committee Ensor has alsoserved on the NCAA Division IAA Governance Committee and onNCAA committees dealing with playing season exemptions athleticcertification the regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restruc-turing and antitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 toa one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003 he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey Colle-giate Commissioners AssociationIn 2001 Ensor was named by the American Football Foundation as itsCommissioner of the Year and in 1999 he was presented a Distin-guished Service Award form the Metropolitan Basketball Writers and in1998 was inducted into the Saint Peterrsquos College Hall of Fame In1996 the University of Massachusetts Amherst Sport ManagementProgram named Ensor as the recipient of the VanderZwaag Distin-guished Alumnus Award In 1989 the Association of Jesuit Collegesand Universities named Ensor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in itsBicentennial Series publication In 1993 Ensor was honored byNACWA as a ldquoGood Guyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity
