We are excited that this year’s International Tour is exploring Europe’s rising star, the Czech Republic. Known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, the country resonates with over 2,000 castles, chateaux, and fortresses, architechtural masterpieces, beautiful landscapes including a chain of mountains on the border, deep forests, and refreshing lakes. Its capital city of Prague is known for stunning architecture and welcoming people, and is the fifth most-visited city in Europe as a result.

The late twentieth century saw the Czech Republic’s inclusion as one of the youngest and strongest members of today’s European Union and NATO. Interestingly, the Czech Republic is known for peaceful transitions; from the Velvet Revolution in which they left Communism behind in 1989, to the Velvet Divorce in which they parted ways with Slovakia in 1993. With the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union, the Czech Republic boasts a stable economy supported by robust exports, chiefly in the automotive and technology sectors.

Join us as we celebrate the 42nd annual Memphis in May International Festival and learn about the incredible cultures, cuisines, customs and commerce of the Czech Republic.

  • Southern Bohemia calls itself the “pearl of the Czech Republic,” and it’s not just a clever nickname. The richness and beauty of this corner of the country bordering Germany and Austria are indisputable. A land of numerous ponds, pine forests, and extensive peat bogs, is enlivened by the skylines of towns and rural churches, which splendidly harmonize with snow-white marshland homesteads. Such is the picture of a typical South-Bohemian landscape in the vicinity of the towns of České Budějovice (Budweis), Třeboň, or Veselí nad Lužnicí. But South Bohemia also features the harsh mountain landscape of the majestic Šumava Mountains. The almost-fairy tale region is situated less than two-hours drive south of Prague, and České Budějovice, its provincial capital, is a natural base for exploring the region.

When you arrive in Český Krumlov, you will be captivated at first glance by the monumental panorama of the chateau here, which rises above the picturesque Renaissance architecture of the adjacent little town. Taking a walk through the historical center will, thanks to its inimitable medieval character, leave you in no doubt as to why Český Krumlov is one of the gems included on the UNESCO list.

  • 2 - NIGHT STAY

  • Prague: City of a Hundred Spires, a UNESCO monument, and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Get to know it in person!

The Old Town Hall with the famous Prague Astronomical Clock. The winding lanes of the Jewish Quarter, which you know from the novels of Franz Kafka, steeped in the legend of the Golem. Cafés enticing you to come and have a seat, boutiques and sight-seeing cruises on the Vltava. The Gothic Charles Bridge and Church of St. Nicholas in the Lesser Town, the most beautiful Baroque church in Prague. The Palace Gardens set away from the bustle of the city, Petřín with a lookout tower reminiscent of a small Eiffel Tower and Prague Castle…. Each of Prague’s districts has its own characteristic atmosphere and unique charm.

Prague presents itself to you as a changeable city, which likes to alternate styles: it is romantic and successful, ancient and modern, but above all it is a city that is cosmopolitan through and through, and is comfortable welcoming foreigners.
