3 Steps to Effective Memorization
1.Visualize
2.Associate
3.Recall
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Most of us are visual.
By creating a vivid image for your
memorization it will greatly assist
with recall.
Visualize
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Scenario:
You leave your keys on the table and walk away.
There are many people around the world who do this and
later forget where they put their keys!
Visualize
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 1 Visualize:
By creating a vivid image for where you
put the keys it will greatly assist with
recall.
Since it is happening in our minds,
we can be creative and make that
visualization stand out!
Visualize
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 1 Visualize:
Just as you put down your keys on the
table, the keys grow in size and get bigger
and bigger!
Some Tips:
Picture the keys getting bigger and bigger
Listen to the sound it makes as it grows
Visualize
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Linking our item to be remembered with another item..
..allows us to recall better
Once again;
Since it is happening in our minds,
we can be creative and make that
association stand out!
Associate
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 2 Associate:
By creating a strong link for where you
put the keys it will greatly assist with
recall.
Associate
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 2 Associate:
As the keys start to grow, the table breaks
in half because of the heaviness of
the keys
Some Tips:
Picture the table breaking in half
Imagine the keys becoming very heavy to break the table
Listen to the breaking sound it makes
Associate
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
And now for the final and most easy stage..
The recall..
Recall
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 3 Recall:
This can be conscious or accidental.
Conscious is simply making an effort to remember the
linking and associations you have created.
Accidental is when you come across the association without making a conscious effort to remember.
Recall
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 3 Recall:
Conscious: Where did you leave the keys?
You remember the association with
Keys breaking the table. AhhTABLE!
Recall
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Applying Step 3 Recall:
Accidental: Where did you leave the keys?
You walk around your house looking for the keys and pass
by the table..you stop for a moment..and ask yourself
Why did the table break? Ohhh the keys broke it.
So you check under the table and viola! Find the keys
Recall

-
3 Steps to Effective Memorization
1.Visualize
2.Associate
3.Recall
By following these 3 simple steps
you are on your way to memory
success!

Technique Linking
Shane has mastered the art of linking.
He will demonstrate how to use this
technique without even breaking a
sweat!
Cmon Shane, show us how its done
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
bkbkkbkbkkkaaaakkk bkbkbkaaak..
bk bk bkkkkkk bk bk bkkk.
akkkkkk.
Ok, maybe well skip Shane until he learns English a bit better.
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
The Linking Technique helps us to recall effectively by
creating stories with the items we want to remember.
For Example
We want to remember the below.
Shoe, Milk, Postman, Donkey, Blue
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Imagine your SHOES smelling profusely..
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
You decide to take them off, and as you do, MILK starts to pour out!
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
The milk splatters everywhere and somehow flies into the eye of the POSTMAN
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
The postman gets angry, gets on his DONKEY and starts to chase you
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
You run for your life and feel yourself getting sick and suddenly you turn BLUE!
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Now how did the story go?
Recall the story to yourself and see
if you can remember the items
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
What made you remember the words?
By creating a story using your fantastic imagination (right side brain) and
linking it to words (left side brain)..
..we are able to use both sides of our brain and remember.
How easy is that!
(c) Yellow Elephant Memory Pty Ltd 2015
-
Practice linking the below words and try to make
your story as fun and exciting as you can.
Remember the 3 steps to memorization? Try to apply them below.
e.g. The Brain was absolutely massive!
Brain, Carpet, Snake, Chocolate, Pencil
