EXCLUSIVE. “Eurovillage Premiere opened to rave reviews.”

By Bobby Schinen

Eurovillage opened last night to rave reviews. Held in the stunning location of Weberllin, anticipation surrounding the prestigious event was high. “I just cannot wait,” exclaimed one excited delegate waiting outside, “I’m just going crazy with excitement,” said another. With such a frisson in the crowd, and record numbers gathering outside, it was clear that this event was going to be huge. After months and months of frenetic preparation leading up to the event, there has been increased anticipation surrounding the premiere of Eurovil-lage. Information concerning the con-tent had been leaked to the press in the fi nal weeks before the Eurovillage premiere. Several rumours concerning the content of the forthcoming Euro-village had been heard and specu-lated upon, although some sources have claimed that several of the most extreme rumours were invented by the makers of Eurovillage themselves to maintain the frenzied interest. Fic-

tion or not, the crowds on the night proved that the spectacle of Eurovl-lage is enough to draw the crowds in. Finally, at six o’clock sharp the wait was over as the doors fl ew open. Cameras fl ashed as the celebrity of the moment, President Stiof NicIonhaird excitedly announced the arrival of Eurovillage and the offi cial opening of the premiere itself. The cameras continued to fl ash long after Stiof had fi nished, as delegates excitedly set off to fully experience Eurovillage for themselves. It is safe to say the event more than lived up to even the highest of expec-tations. The independent makers of Eurovillage have not disclosed their fi -nal budget but it was clear to see that no expense had been spared. Each and every table did not fail to impress, spectators and participants alike were literally bowled over by the selection on offer. Delegates were spoiled for choice in every aspect. It was not just a feast, not just a exotic bar it was a complete experience. A cultural melting pot with infl uences taken from all over the EU. It is safe to say from early reports that this Eu-rovillage is the best in years by far.

The following are the results of the germanifesto’s ranking of Eurovillage drinks. All participants deserve credit for their creative and great effort, which made this evening a tremendous success.

Best tasting hard liqueurThe prize for the best tasting liqueur, defi nitly, goes to Cyprus and their native Zivania. This 45% distilled drink is made out of grapes and has a wonderful fruity taste and was described by some as being “close to pure alcohol”, and “with Zivania, you visit never before reached dimensions.” Well done!

Grossest and Weirdest story-relatedUnfortunately, we fell upon this table early on in our survey. It was at the Danish delegation’s table that we got to taste a rather, well uhm… in-teresting beverage. They would not reveal the nature of the ingredients until we had sampled their so-called beverage. As any good surveyer, we proceeded to sample the so-called beverage. We actually do not remember the taste, for the story which followed eclipsed any possible liking we could have had for the so-called beverage. We were quite shocked, nay, appaled to fi nd out that the main ingredient for the mak-ing of this so-called beverage, was the gourment addition of lonely fl ying Greenland bird’s intestins. During the cold months of winter, the Danes, with obviously nothing better to do, go and shoot down poor inocent bird’s from Greenland (do they taste better?). This so-called beverage, most defi nitly takes the fi rst (only) prize for grossest and weirdest drink. Congratulations!!! (Yech)

Greatest selection: Beer Beer BeerWe had to attribute this designation to the delegation from the Czech Republic, though we had a very hard time making a decision, as Bel-gium came in a VERY close second. The world renouned Budweiser (not the american copy) was one of a collection of ten different beers. A little something for everyone. Keep on brewing CZE!

Most accommodatingWe have to once again call upon the delegation from Cyprus, for if it weren’t for their brave and daunting teacher, they would not have won the above prize. Once he found out that we had been crushed to find that their table did not comply with EYP-journo requirements. They did not provide drinks. We were actually surprised when he came up to us, grabbed us by the shoulder and cried with a big smile: “Come to our table in half an hour. I will have something which will blow your socks off.” Before we even had time to come back to the Cyprus table, two glasses were thrust into our hands and we were told to drink. Bottoms up! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat ef-fort!!

Best wine While most Eurovillagers might have been attracted to this table by the four “Bulgar-ian Beauties” in tight black T’s, this aspect left us totally cold – well perhaps not totally. We were on a divine mission and nothing could distract us. It was the two bottles of traditional wine which were our main focus. The great Cabernet Sauvignon, Oravinifera, was fruity, yet not too sweet. The wine was great, but the company even sweeter. Very classy!

Non-Alcoholic

We heartily thank, on behalf of our respec-tive livers, all the del-egations who did not provide alcoholic bev-erages. Chances are, if you had, we would not be writing this article at the present time. One rather well marketed beverage caught our attention. The Russians claimed to possess the most en-vironmentaly friendly and ecologicaly clean drink. KVAS, a bread based drink, and cer-tifi ed as “genetically unmodifi ed”, pushed this drink to the top of our non alcs. list. We suggest that the Committee on En-vironmental Affairs should most defi nite-ly keep this in mind when debating the Kyoto Protocol. Keep on researching Russia!

EUROPEAN RAINBOWBY Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän feat. Pocahontas

As the rainbow consists of many different colours, EYP is diversity of cultures and nations, divided by customs and united by ideas. We had the chance to experience all of them at one place. As the colours of the rainbow can paint beautiful pictures, the memories of this magnifi cent event will always be able to recall the brightness of these colours.

BelarusThree charming girls, accompanied by a gentleman ded-icated their performance to their beloved motherland. They involved the audience into chorus ‘Hey-la-la-lay!’

BelgiumThe originally sophisticated Belgian delegation turned out to be compound of Belgian Babes in a while. And I bet their long legs and short skirts caused some heart problems to certain male EYPers - ‘Hey, it’s hot in here, there must’ve been some Belgians in the atmosphere!’ You can be sure they were!

BulgariaYour eyes might have sored during this performance, es-pecially if you were sitting in one of the fi rst rows, because the Bulgarian delegation dazzled us all completly with their bright red socks and synchronized choreography.

Cyprus

This infl amable mixture of mediter-ranean tones and passionate acro-batics really roused the audience. On the scale from 1 to 10, we without a doubt give 25!!!!!!

The Czech Republic

The audience had the chance to take part in the very well known dance “POLKA” and everyone had tonnes of fun observing the little chaotic situ-ation.

Denmark

The Danish took us back into the medieval ages in their classical piece with a deep meaning written by Hans Christian Andersen, showed us a true life story of a young man and presented the reality af those days with every little detail - including the fact that princesses didn’t shave their legs.

Estonia

Do you know how to seduce 100 girls

in three minutes? The Estonians do. Here’s the receipe - stand four male Estonians on the stage and let them sing with their mesmerizing voices a romantic song about three travel-lers that are trying to fi nd the love of their life. The girls will wipe the tears secretly after the performance and their hearts will be simply devoted to Estonia...

Finland

The delegation from the land of a thousand lakes kept it brief and funny and that’s the way we love it! Greetings to Santa Claus!

PAGE 8

France

One of the biggest surprises of the whole evening - the French delegation let us hear their English! And they gave us even more - keep this useful piece of advise ‘If you don’t understand something, just laugh!’ and you don’t have to use it only as far as EYP is cncerned...

Germany

If you don’t mind, the best performance goes to Germans, who delivered a great performance full of self-irony and passionate dances! Well done, Ger-many, congratulations!

Greece

This one of those unique opportunities when you can hear Greek poetry in original. We loved Greek performance, there was just one thing we didn’t understand - why did all the Greeks have T-shirts with writings saying ‘Ath-ens’? It was almost as if there was some major sporting event taking place in Greece this summer? Nah.

Ireland

Singing a classic Irish folk song the Irish del-gation had the most successful sing-a-long of the evening.

Italy

The comparison of ancient and present day Italy was a great idea, the dancers were simply stunning (by the way, the prize for the best dancer goes to Italy), but the line ‘I am not Caesar’ was really unnec-essary - we all know, that Caesar wasn’t wearing glasses, man!

Latvia

What to add more? They simply know how to involve the audience into their number:c)! Good job!

Lithuania

Every Lithuanian is born with this song in his/her heart, as we heard. But we, for one, had no idea before, how talented dancers the Lithuanians are (actually Elvis DID have Lithu-anian family, did you know?)! Groovie!

Croatia feat. Macedonia feat. Serbia Montenegro feat. Slovenia

A bunch of people that fi lled up the stage and made the audi-ence move with the ‘hip’ version of Kalashnikow. You enjoyed their performance hopefully, because such a luxury package is not on everyday menu! Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boooooooooom.

Austria

A multimedia presentation starting with Herminator in the tight skiing-suit, then turning the spotlights onto Wiena Ball and VIP’s as Arnie or Mr. Fischer. But our favourite is Dj Ötzi - baby, we wanna know if you’ll be our girl?

Netherlands

A delegation from the country where the kids listen to DJ Tiesto instead of lulla-bays, where all the people are addicted to orange colour and where shoes are made from wood showed us a cool mixture of this all.

Norway

The diversity of language will never stop to amaze us, but the way that the Norwegians pronounce ‘r’ drives us crazy for them!

Poland

They have said it quite clear - you’d better buy them vodka, otherwise they’re able to do anything (which means really any thing in this case)!

Portugal

Our journo-duet is just not able to fi nd one suitable word, therefore make a mixture of these: Deep, stunning, powerful, natural, pure, astonishing.

Romania

Hopefully you have enjoyed this ‘bird dance’ as much as this performance made us cheerful!

Russia

They don’t have Tiesto in Russia, they have got their own way of bringing the kids into the bed and one of these lullabays they have performed.

Spain

Two girls with guitars, rest of the delegation singing, together creating a nice harmony. Can one wish more?

Switzerland

We got a little confused when we heard the fi rst tones of the Lemon tree, because I would never guess that this song has something to do with Switzerland, but once we heard the lyrics, everything was clear!

Turkey

Sensual movements and rhythmic music, (as we understood the art-ist was Merheb), as usualy represented this interesting and tempting country...

Ukraine

Oh yeah! Ruslana gave her hit ‘Wild dancers’ and none of the journalist could resist to move within the rythm. Coooool!

The United Kingdom

They brought a guitar, wrapped the singer up in the British fl ag and nobody was looking back in anger.

THE EUROWONDERLANDby Mausal & Schweizer Katze

As we followed the giant’s footsteps to the canteen, they accidentally took us to an absolutely diff erent place - the Eurocastle. Torches lit the main entrance and princes and princesses presented their national won-ders, and so we decided to share our impressions of what we saw.

So here it is, we present the wonders you can fi nd when walking around in the Eurocastle.

When entering the room, the fi rst ones to catch our attention were the French with their specialite de foie gras au miel- their special creamy wonder from duck’s fat and honey.- c’était delicieux.

As we followed the crowd, we were taken to Northern Ireland, where at fi rst 2 picky girls found nothing to try. However it turned out that the ham, that didn’t exactly have the most desirable appearance, was the tastiest ham we had ever eaten- and believe us, we’ve eaten a lot.

And then, suddenly we heard a cheery tune coming from the Ukrainian table - it wasn’t so much a wonder on a table but a wonder around it: the infamous BNC member from Italy was encouraged to try the strongest Ukrainian drink accompanied by the powerful national melodies: -if you didn’t see that, you missed a lot!

Surprisingly the tables of Eurocastle off ered diversity in fi sh - at fi rst we had the chance to fall in love with the Estonian spicy fi sh sandwiches with “vrtüsikilu” but as good, yet so diff erent was the salmon on the Norwegian’s table.

At some point during our journey we were to witness the Austrian burning miracle, which they called the alcoholic pancakes (very tasty, indeed).

However, when we were already considering ourselves as “Europe-an food specialists” the Latvians managed to mess our heads total-ly: reaching for a chocolate ball, getting a sausage instead, a.k.a the hunter’s balls.

Since we - the lovely journos - are the ones in love with classical teddy bears- we just have to say, that Haribo still rocks: now and forever.

As you can probably guess: we were happy, satisfi ed, and full when leaving the Eurocastle.

So in case you have any delicious food left from the Eurovillage - you’re welcome in the pressroom and we guarantee some special re-funding.

tune in next time for the lifestyle supplement that might just change your life - life just wouldn’t be stylish without it........................
