Sizemore Greenhouse… Flowers and More Flowers Flowers and more flowers, a locally owned greenhouse is opening their doors to sale. Mike Sizemore, the owner of Sizemore Greenhouse, has been pre- paring his greenhouse since January of this year. It takes up to 80 to 100 hours to plan what plants and flowers that he is going to grow for the season. He did put in a new addition to the greenhouse, an irrigation water system to the build- ing for his flower baskets so the baskets can be watered daily. Sizemore has over 70,000 plants this year. He is offering some new verities of plants, flowers, herb, hanging baskets, flats of flowers, garden plants and pro-mix. He sells 15 different varities of tomato plants, cab- bage, pepper plants and a special toma- to plant that is called an Amish yellow pea, it bears a tiny tomato the size of a green pea. Sizemore will not be selling fresh rproduce this year; it’s all greenhouse plants and flowers. The greenhouse is a 140x30 size building that faces east to west so that the plants get the full sun and not too much shade. The green- house is wall to wall with hanging bas- kets and flats of garden plants. All of his plants are grown from seeds. Mike and one other person take the time to nur- ture these beautiful plants. Folks, this greenhouse is full of veg- etable plants and beautiful flowers. Stop by and give a look. At approximately 7:15am report of a crash on Daubenspeck which resulted in a DUI arrest and at approximately 3:00pm a report of a crash on Triplett Ridge in which a car hit a parked truck and ran into the back of a garage, there were no injuries in either incident. 2 Accidents in Clay County Accident on Daubenspeck results in DUI charge. With the upcoming primary election in May, candidates are attending ‘Meet the Candidates’ gatherings so voters in the community can get some one on one question time from the candidates that are running for office. Unfor- tunately, the weather over this past weekend wasn’t the greatest and the turn out wasn’t the greatest, but the can- didates and those who attended had a good time in spite of the weather. H.E. White Community School hosted a Chili cook off be- tween the candidates running for office in our county and in our districts, since Clay County is in two different districts. Candidates set up tables with their chili and toppings of choice if wanted, along with the normal campaign items such as pens, note pads, cups, etc. The gym at H E White Commu- nity School was decorated in multiple colors from all of the campaign signs, etc. Grand Prize winner in the Chili cook off was Angela Walk- er Cantrell who is running for family court judge. Shane Mor- ton took First Place, he is running for Sheriff of Clay County. Susan Markle-Bodkins is running for Clay County Board of Education and she took second place. And third place went to Teresa Davis who is running for Clay County Assessor. Meet the Candidates Chili Cookoff at H.E. Tickets are $20 per person and are available at CCHS or by calling 304-587-4226. Come out, enjoy dinner, then sit back and watch Clay County’s Youth as they sing, dance and maybe even do a little surfing. You won’t be disappointed. 17 TH Annual Dinner Theater Take Back Day in Clay County will be held Saturday, April 30, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Clay County Courthouse. This is a collab- orative effort between the Clay County Sher- iff’s Department, Drug Enforcement Agency and the Clay County Family Resource Net- work. The event will focus on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. This national take-back day will provide a uni- fied opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national fo- cus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community. On Saturday, April 30, local law enforce- ment agencies will have a collection site at the Clay County Courthouse from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter substances will be collected. National Take Back Initiative Slated for April 30, 2016 The 7th annual Wallback Lake Youth Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, April 16th, 2016. This event runs totally on donations and contributions from sponsors, all for the young sports boys and girls of today ranging from 3 years old to 14 years old. There will be give- aways and snacks for them. We will also have a casting contest hosted by Boy Scout Troop 123 Preschool Kindergar- ten 8:00am – 8:45am; 1st & 2nd Graders 9:00am – 9:45pm; 3rd, 4th &5th Grad- ers 10:00am – 10:45am; 6th Graders through 14 years of age 11:00am – 11:45am. All young sportsmen must be registered & accompanied by an Adult; Registration & Liability Form Must BE SIGNED; No fish are to be released; Two Trout limit.
