Ready to vroom: One of the participant attacking the stages during the pre-event testing.
The two-day event is a curtain raiser of sorts for the INRC When the Champions Yacht Club (CYC) was declared the new promoter of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for four wheelers last month quite a few said it’s going to be tough from here for both the sport and those involved in it. But it turned out to be a different story with the CYC opening its promoter-ship campaign with the Champions Sprint de Bengaluru 2019 here this weekend. The two-day event, scheduled at the LG Champions Green County on the Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway, is a curtain raiser of sorts for the INRC. And the CYC and the Karnataka Motor Sports Club (KMSC) has done a fairly good job in setting up some sizzling hot stages that may pose some challenge for the drivers in fray over the next two days. And it may well give you a sneak preview into all the excitement that is in store for the entire season. Interestingly, there are about 40 teams and, it has a mix of hungry-looking boys and experienced stars. They all know that this is the right time for them to prove a point. What is all the more surprising is that there is a separate ladies class. For CYC, it is not only about creating champions out of exciting talents but also encouraging more women into the sport. “Everybody has got some talent but not the opportunity. We want to create opportunities at any cost and along with it produce champions for the country. That is my wish and dream and our mission as well as we step in to run the INRC,” said Vamsi Merla, the CEO of the company.
“We will not only create the ideal platform for our drivers but also afford them international competition on world class routes to help them get better,” he added. Coming back to the ‘Sprint’ event, it’s going to be a night drive over two stages on Saturday. It is expected to bring the crowd as it probably held after a long time. Night drives can be both tough and exciting. “Don’t be surprised if we clock some of the fastest timings in these stages,” said Samrat Yadav, who will be driving for Team Champions on a Volkswagen Polo. He said the event is a perfect blend for a complete INRC. “There is tarmac, uphill and downhill, loose soil and many more. The variations are such that it’s a mix of all INRC stages.” The event will begin with the unveiling of the FMSCI-approved INRC logo and the top drivers will take part in the customary shakedown before heading for the two night stages on Saturday followed by four stages the next day.

https://www.thehindu.com/sport/motorsport/younus-shines-bright-at-night/article26621369.ece Younus shines bright at night He stopped the clock at 06:47.30s for the early lead Night rallying has to be the most difficult as the drivers come at great speeds without much reference points. It’s all also about how hard to accelerate and go deep into a corner under pitch darkness. Of course, they have the lights on the car to help them down the route. But Kerala’s Younus Ilyas and his co-driver Harish Gowda from Bengaluru made it look pretty easy finishing on top in the opening stage of the Sprint de Bengaluru at the LG Champions Green County here on Saturday. The ‘Sprint’ rally event, which is said to be the curtain raiser for the FMSCI-Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for four wheelers, attracted some of the best talents in the country. They know for sure their performance may count much for the season ahead. And, Ilyas proved that too a good measure by attacking the sharp turns and corners with confidence at night. He stopped the clock at 06:47.30s for the early lead which may matter much in the stages to follow. Suhem Kabeer (J. Jeevarathinam) eased into the second position in the INRC 1 category, finishing just 10 seconds behind the leaders. Missing out They were quick in their Polo but missed out on a couple of turns that hurt them. The second stage will take place later in the night, followed by four stages on Sunday. Earlier, the event began with a ceremonial start. Inspector General of Police K. Revanna, Chairman of Champions Group Subhakar Rao and its Director N. Hemamalini flagged off the cars. It was followed by the customary shakedown, with the drivers giving the guests a taste of their skills and the route in their cars. The results (after stage 1, provisional): 1. Younus Ilyas & K.N. Harish 00:06:47.300s; 2. Suhem Kabeer & J. Jeevarathinam 00:06:57.600; 3. Lokesh Gowda & D. Uday Kumar 00:07:03.100.

The Race Concepts driver, along with his navigator Harish Gowda, seemed to be in control after storming into a comfortable 10-second lead in the night stage on Saturday. But Mascarenhas, an acknowledged champion driving in the INRC 3 category, showed a glimpse of his speed and prowess on Sunday. Despite driving his stock car which clearly didn't have enough power, he began Day 2 with a bang, finishing just 2 seconds off Ilyas' well-prepared Cedia. He was equally brilliant in the next stage, clocking 4:58.30 which was just one second behind Ilyas. The two stages, at LG Tranquil, tested the drivers and cars thoroughly, with tarmac, gravel, loose soil, sharp climbs and steep falls marking the route. It gave the huge local crowds a bird's eye view of the entire run, making for a great holiday treat. Mascarenhas then came into his own, winning the next two stages at the LG Champions County track handsomely. He, though, was penalised six minutes for getting to the starting point on Saturday night late which proved to be too big a deficit to overcome. He slipped all the way to the bottom of the table. Mission accomplished: Younus llyas, left, and co-driver Harish Gowda after their successful outing.
Dean Mascarenhas wins final two stages in a handsome manner Kerala’s Younus llyas ruled the night stage the other day and came back in a stronger fashion on the final day to emerge a clear winner of the Sprint de Bengaluru here on Sunday. The second stage, to be held under the night skies on Saturday, was cancelled due to ‘dust hang’ though the drivers were prepared to have a go on it. It did not matter much for Ilyas and his co-driver Harish Gowda from Karnataka as they enjoyed a slight ten-second advantage going into the final day.
Representing Race Concepts, the duo looked pretty prepared for any test that came their way. And, they seemed to be running fine in one of the most challenging terrains at the LG Tranquil that had loose soil, gravel, tarmac and steep climbs. Speed and ability Dean Mascarenhas had other ideas too despite having a stock car that was not powerful enough to match the speed of the top runner. He believed in speed and ability to take on the best on his day. He showed glimpses of that in the final two stages by winning both of them in a handsome manner. He made nine and eight seconds in each of the stages but as luck would have it was penalised six minutes for reaching the starting point on Saturday night late. It came as a huge blow as he slipped to the bottom of the table after playing it steady on the stages for most part. “Call it bad luck as my car failed to start,” said Dean and quickly added that he was pleased with his driving skills that can help him through the INRC season. Dhruva Chandrasekar made the most out of it with his far experienced navigator Musa Sherif to climb his way up to the second spot in the INRC overall category. “It was great outing here and I just loved attacking the stages that were both interesting and challenging,” said Ilyas, who plans to shift his class and do a much better job this season. The CEO of Champions Yacht Club Vamsi Merla, the promoter of the INRC, was pretty pleased with the curtain-raiser event. “For the first time we had the live screening of the stages and also a webcast. INRC 2019: Younus Ilyas wins Sprint de Bengaluru 25th Mar 2019 5:16 pm Curtain-raiser event for the 2019 INRC saw Ilyas take victory after Mascarenhas was handed a penalty. The Sprint de Bengaluru 2019 took place over the weekend, acting as a non-championship, curtain-raiser event for the upcoming 2019 season of the Indian National Rally Championship. It was Kerala’s Younus Ilyas who took top honours at the event, after Bengaluru’s Dean Mascarenhas was handed a penalty. Ilyas, along with navigator Harish Gowda, set the pace early on and held a 10 second lead at the end of the first day. But on the second day, Mascarenhas, who was driving a stock car in the INRC 3 category, started eating into Ilyas’ advantage. After completing the first two stages of the day just behind Ilyas, he managed to win the next two stages at the LG Champions County track, gaining nine and eight seconds on each stage.
However, Mascarenhas was then handed a six-minute penalty for reaching the starting point late on Saturday. This dropped him down to the bottom of the standings, handing victory to Ilyas. “It was just bad luck,” lamented Mascarenhas. “My car didn’t start so I got delayed. I am, however, very happy with the way I drove and I am looking forward to a good season.” “It was a great outing. And I loved being out here! The stages were interesting and were challenging at times. But I am really glad to have come out on top,” said Ilyas. Dhruva Chandrashekar and navigator Musa Sherif took an understated 2nd place in the overall INRC category, taking victory in the INRC 3 category in the process. Sanjay Agarwal and navigator Smitha N rounded up the top three in the overall standings. The event also featured a separate ladies class that was won by Shivani Pruthvi. RESULTS: INRC Overall: 1. By: Rachit Thukral 6h ago Younus Ilyas emerged victorious in the curtain-raising round of the Indian National Rally Championship in Bengaluru after chief rival Dean Mascarenhas was handed a hefty penalty. Race Concepts’ Ilyas established a comfortable 10-second advantage after the opening two night stages in Sprint de Bengaluru. However, his advantage came under serious threat from INRC3 runner Mascarenhas, who started closing in for the overall lead on the final day. Driving a stock car, Mascarenhas gained nine and eight seconds respectively in the last two stages of the rally, comfortably making up for the deficit he faced at the end of day 1.
Unfortunately, the Bengaluru-based driver was deemed to have arrived late to the starting point on Saturday and was subsequently hit with a hefty six-minute penalty. That dropped him all the way to the bottom of the rankings, leaving the way clear for Ilyas to win the non-championship season opener. Dhruva Chandrashekar finished second behind Ilyas and took a class win in the INRC3 category, while Sanjay Agarwal completed the overall podium spots. INRC, now run by new promoter Champions Club, featured a ladies class for the first time. Shivanu Pruthvi, who starred in the first half of our debut Volkswagen Ameo Cup season last year, was declared the winner ahead of seasoned rally driver Harshita Gowda.

25-03-2019 Younus Ilyas wins Sprint de Bengaluru Bengaluru, : Kerala’s Younus Ilyas survived a late attack from Bengaluru’s Dean Mascarenhas to dramatically win the INRC overall and INRC 2 categories in the Sprint de Bengaluru 2019, the curtain-raiser event to the FMSC Indian National Rally Championship here on Sunday. Despite driving his stock car which clearly didn’t have enough power, he began Day 2 with a bang, finishing just 2 seconds off Ilyas’ well prepared Cedia. He was equally brilliant in the next stage, clocking 4:58.30 which was just one second behind Ilyas.
The two stages, at LG Tranquil, tested the drivers and cars thoroughly, with tarmac, gravel, loose soil, sharp climbs and steep falls marking the route. It gave the huge local crowds a bird’s eye view of the entire run, making for a great holiday treat. Mascarenhas then came into his own, winning the next two stages at the LG Champions County track handsomely. With only long straights and sharp curves and turns to conquer, he went all out and gained 9 and 8 seconds each to make up for his 10-second shortfall in the opening stage. Sadly for him, he was penalized 6 minutes for getting to the starting point on Saturday night late which proved to be too big a deficit to overcome. He slipped all the way to the bottom of the table. “It was just bad luck,” Mascarenhas said. “My car didn’t start so I got delayed. I am, however, very happy with the way I drove and I am looking forward to a good season,” he added. Ilyas expressed happiness at his performance and praised the stages. “It was a great outing. And I loved being out here! The stages were interesting and were challenging at times. But I am really glad to have come out on top,” he said. Dhruva Chandrashekar, with his accomplished navigator Musa Sherif, quietly made their way up to take the second place in the INRC overall category. They clinched the INRC 3 category in the process. “We are very happy with the way the curtain-raiser went,” Vamsi Merla, the CEO of Champions Yacht Club, the promoters of the INRC, said. “For the first time, we had a live screening of the stages at the venue as also a webcast. This is just the beginning,” he declared. RESULTS: INRC Overall: 1. Younus Ilyas / Harish KN; 2. Dhruva Chandrashekar / Musa Sherif; 3. Sanjay Agarwal / Smitha N INRC 1: Suhem Kabeer / J.
