THANK YOU to our Most Recent Donors!

“Please remember us in your will or trust.”

MEAL RECIPIENT

Passing the Torch!

Audrey Haynes Ketchie is retiring as Coordinator of the volunteer delivery team at Liberty UMC in East Rowan. Born and raised in Rowan County, she worked for many years in various sewing rooms. When she re-tired, she wanted to vol-unteer with her church and in her community.

When Meals on Wheels expanded into East Rowan, Audrey and her church helped make it happen. She served as coordinator for her church team for 15+ years! In addition to coordinator du-ties, Audrey and her husband Ben, pictured together above, also deliver the East Rowan route every 5th week.

Audrey said, “I loved meeting all the participants. It made me feel good to help my church and community.” She is passing the torch to her fellow church member, Alma Flint, who takes over as coordinator.

Thank you, Audrey, for your many years of dedicated service as the Meals on Wheels volunteer coordinator at Liberty UMC! We will miss you!

BIRTHDAYS!

March 11-17th is Girl Scout Week!

In celebration of Girl Scout Week, one of our Meals on Wheels supporters has donated Girl Scout Cookies for all of our participants. Our donor said, “ It is important for Meals on Wheels participants to feel like they are a part of the community. Folks who are homebound, often don’t get out and see the Girl Scout Troop booth sales or get the opportunity to buy a box of cookies. At least we can send them a couple Girl Scout Cookies to brighten their day.”

Locally, the older Girl Scouts pack emergency meal totes with shelf-stable meals that our volunteers deliver in early December each year. These totes provide three meals in

the event that inclement weather prevents our volunteers from delivering meals. In Novem-ber 2017, the Rowan County older girl, Girl Scouts were nominated for a Youth Services Award and recognized for their service to Meals on Wheels.

“Girl Scouts are big thinkers, groundbreakers, and role models. They design robots, start gar-age bands, and improve their communities-and yes, they sell the best cookies on the planet.”

Dr. Lynn Moody, Superintendent of Schools

and two Youth Service Award winners.
