V íctor Gavi ri a is an award-winning Colombian director, screenwriter, and poet. After studying psychology at the Universidad de Antioquia, Gaviria has gone on to publish seven books of award-winning poetry and crónicas, and direct four feature films. His debut Rodrigo D: No futuro (1990) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and made Gaviria the first Colombian to compete at the festival. Gaviria returned to Cannes with La vendedora de rosas (1998). His third feature, Sumas y restas (2004), competed in the San Sebastián Film Festival and garnered 11 awards internationally. In 2009, Gaviria was honored with a retrospective at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. His latest film, La mujer del animal, premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Wil l i am Vega is an integral voice in the emerging generation of Colombian filmmakers. Having specialized in screenwriting at the Escuela de Artes y Espectácula TAI Madrid, Vega co-founded and currently co-directs the Cali-based production company Contravía Films. His debut feature La sirga (2009) premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival, and screened in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival. Vega has also co-produced the films Siembra (2016) and Los hongos (2014). His most recent project is Sal (2016).

Juana Suárez holds an MA and PhD in Latin American Literature (University of Oregon and Arizona State University, 2000) and an MA in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (New York University, 2013). Suárez has taught for almost twenty years at a variety of institutions, including the Univ. of North Carolina Greensboro, the Univ. of Kentucky, NYU, the Univ. Nacional de Colombia, and the Univ. Tadeo Lozano (Bogotá). As Archives Consultant for Proimágenes Colombia, she coordinated the restoration of the films of Carlos Mayolo. She is the author of Sitios de contienda. Producción cultural y el discurso de la violencia and Cinembargo Colombia. Ensayos críticos sobre cine y cultura colombiana. Most recently, she is the editor of Humor in Latin American Cinema. Suárez has worked with many media archives, including the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Anthology Film Archives, and the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (NYC).
