From the President

The Men’s Cultural Alliance (MCA) is an organization of the male

members of the Jewish Federation of Collier County (JFCC) whose

purpose is to create friendship and camaraderie among its members

by attending and participating in social, intellectual and

sporting/athletic activities.

Now in its third year of existence, over 200 men have joined the

group and participate in a wide array of activities ranging from

monthly luncheon meetings to recreational sporting activities, to

study and educational groups. Membership in the MCA makes each

man an official member of the JFCC.

All paid members of the MCA are eligible to join any program. It is

necessary, however, to sign up for each program. Many groups are

limited in the number of participants in order to allow each member

the best possible experience.

We actively seek and welcome new members and encourage their

input in organizing new activities and in participating in our exciting

programs.

For further information, please feel free to contact me.

Best wishes for a fun filled and enjoyable season with the MCA.

Page 8: MCA Program Guide 2014-2015

dangerous addiction to fossil fuels with cheap, clean solar energy . . . one rooftop at a time.

Mr. Williams will explain what people are doing around he world and in the United States. You will hear about

some of the people among the millions who have chosen to put the sun at their service, from villages in Africa to

suburban America, from rural China to Google’s campus, from thousands of industrial rooftops to America’s huge

solar farms.

Neville Williams, is the founder of Standard Solar Inc., one of America's leading solar energy services company

based in Maryland that sells and installs grid-tied residential, commercial, institutional and utility-scale

solarelectric systems in the mid-Atlantic region. Williams launched Standard Solar in 2005, drawing on 30 years of executive management, communications, and marketing

experience. Standard Solar has been listed as the 73rd fastest growing company in the U.S. by Inc. Magazine.

Mr. Williams first became involved with solar energy during the Carter Administration as a consultant to the

U.S. Department of Energy. He is the author of SUN POWER (Forge, NY, 2014), an account of bringing solar power to people without electricity in 11 countries in

Asia and Africa and how solar is also empowering Europe and the U.S..

Mansbach exited the tank, jumped to the ground, ran into the open and hauled the wounded men behind

Plant-based Lifestyle and the

Reduction in Risk of Heart Disease, Cancer and

Diabetes

Presented by Robert T. Lempert DMD and Anthony London MD

December 10 – 10:30am JFCC Community Room

Page 14: MCA Program Guide 2014-2015

Albert Einstein is reputed to have said, “things should be described as simply as possible, but no simpler” A Whole Food Plant Based Lifestyle is the miracle pill. We are never taught this concept since industries can not profit and will not spend money on research. Our discussion today on nutrition can help you, your spouse, your children, and grandchildren. Results have taken away any mystery about benefits. The best example is a person that has Type 2 Diabetes. After 4 weeks of eating a plant based diet the diabetic patient would see wonderful improvement. They may either give up their medication or severely reduce it. When you look at a blocked coronary artery and then see it open up after 32 months of a strict plant based diet you get convinced. Slowing down a cancer with vegetables which is shown so clearly by the research by Dr. Li is amazing.

Page 15: MCA Program Guide 2014-2015

My story of experiencing a plant based diet for 3 years has made me very passionate about this life style choice. I am hear today to relate my experience. My hope is that my talk will give many benefits that you can share with your families. Dr London has practiced cardiology for 40 years. He will present the risk factors of coronary artery disease and the basic pathology. The value and evidence of a “Whole Food Plant Based Diet”

Robert T. Lempert DMD is a graduate of the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dentistry in 1966, which was followed by a one year residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and two years in the US Army Dental Corp. Presently he is retired and his daughter is running the Dental practice in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Anthony London M.D. gradudated Albany Medical College 1965. He completed his Internship, Internal Medicine and Cardiology Fellowship at Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y. Diplomat American Board Internal Medicine. How to Begin Researching Your

Family History

Presented by Arthur Sissman March 11 – 10:30am

JFCC Community Room

Do you have a gaps in your family tree? Who are these missing people? Are they related to you? Do you know where your forebears came from? Why do you want to

Page 21: MCA Program Guide 2014-2015

know? How do you find out? Do your grandchildren know who these people are? Why should you or they care?

Researching your family genealogy can help you find the answers to all the above questions. And the answers to

questions you don’t even know to ask yet.

Arthur Sissman is the founder and leader of the Jewish Genealogy SIG (Special Interest Group) of Collier and Lee Counties. He began researching his family history in 1999 in anticipation of the first family reunion of the paternal side of his family. Since then, his research has put him in touch with over 500 family members, most of whom he had never even heard of or met. Genealogy is a great

hobby, and especially Jewish genealogy. Other word to describe a genealogist might be: Biographer, Detective,

Historian, Diplomat, Keen Observer, Skeptic, Linguist, Sociologist, Reporter.

Want to find out how to get started? Come to an informative lecture and learn how computer technology

has changed the geneology business.

Have a topic to present?

Mens Discussion Group

“THE WISDOM YEARS”

Tuesdays Nov. 4, 2014 – May 5, 2015 every other week

2:00 pm Jewish Federation Community Room

Men are very good at sharing stories. We’re not so good about sharing our feelings with other men.

The meetings will give all a chance to move beyond that as we come together and share our joy, our concerns. And what comes up for us as we move through this phase of our life.Topics could range from

relationships with our children, our grandchildren, our spouses; issues of health, mortality, etc.The number one rule for the group is

confidentiality….

“WHAT IS SAID IN THE GROUP STAYS IN THE GROUP AND NEVER LEAVES THE ROOM” Membership is limited, and is presently full.

Leader: Mel Zahn at [email protected]. To be notified if there is an opening.

More information will be provided to those who request information prior to a scheduled meeting. So bring your pictures, your camera,

MCA Community Volunteers Group

The MCA is exploring the many organizations in the community that need volunteers and how we can help. Combined, the MCA members are an amazing pool of

talent and experience that can provide a major contribution to our community.

Our initial research finds the needs of the community are many. From individually working with kids- tutoring and

mentoring, participating as a group - build homes for families - food/clothing drives, interacting with seniors - conversation and playing cards, professional guidance - legal/accounting - to spreading the word that the MCA - with it's vast experience of over 200 members - is ready

to help serve the needs of our community.

THE COMMUNITY NEEDS US –

PLEASE VOLUNTEER.

We need your feed back as to previous volunteer experience and what specific interests members have.

We will then reach out to the community, contact organizations that need our talent, and organize the MCA

volunteers.
