All candidates applying to be considered for Montgomery College’s Macklin Business Institute (MBI)Scholars two-year program must submit an MBI Scholars Application for Admission, along with a $25application fee (one-time, nonrefundable). In addition, the following documents must be submitted by January14 unless noted otherwise:

• Official high school transcript—required

• Official college entrance exam scores: either the New Scholastic Aptitude Test 1 (New SAT 1) or the AmericanCollege Testing Program (ACT) scores—required*

• Placement Testing, if applicable—required (see instructions)

• Two letters of recommendation—required

• Information about extracurricular interests (including resume)—required

• Essays submitted with application—required

• Official Advanced Placement, SAT II, or TOEFL scores—optional

• First semester senior year grades—required; submit by March 1, 2011

General Information and Instructions

This application should only be completed bystudents who wish to be considered for the MBIScholars honors program. Students applying forgeneral admission to Montgomery College shouldcomplete a regular application for admission.Please contact the Office of Admissions at240-567-5039 to request a regular admissionsapplication.

Students who complete the MBI Scholarsapplication do not need to complete a regularapplication for admission. In the event that astudent is not accepted into the MBI Scholarsprogram, information submitted on the scholarsapplication will be used to offer students regularadmission to Montgomery College.

Applications are due by January 14, 2011. Latesubmission of any required supporting materialsmay adversely affect consideration of yourapplication. We will accept application materialspostmarked by January 14.

Priority for the MBI Scholars program and MBIScholars scholarships will be given to residents ofMontgomery County.

The selection committee will evaluate theMontgomery College transcript and records of anyapplicant who currently attends or has previouslyattended Montgomery College.

Applicants who are not United States citizensshould submit a copy of both sides of yourPermanent Resident card or Visa and I-94.Contact the Office of Admissions at 240-567-5039for further information.

Applications for fall 2011 will only be consideredfor: 1) students who are currently enrolled in theirfinal year of high school and who will becompleting high school graduation requirements byJune 2010, and 2) returning MC students with 12credits or less.

Application Fees

Applicants may be eligible for a waiver of theapplication fee in cases of documented hardship.In addition, students who are designated asMaryland Distinguished Scholar, NationalAchievement, National Hispanic Recognition, andNational Merit recipients (Finalist, Semi-Finalist,Honorable Mention, and Commended categories)may be eligible for an application fee waiver.Please include a copy of your certificate withyour application for admission in order toreceive a fee waiver. Contact the Office ofAdmissions at 240-567-5039 for additionalinformation.

Applicants who previously applied to MontgomeryCollege do not need to pay the $25 application fee.

Standardized Test Scores

Applicants should submit official copies of theirstandardized test scores directly from the testingagency. Failure to send official test scores mayadversely affect consideration for the program.

The New SAT 1 Code for Montgomery College(Rockville Campus) is 5440. The ACT Code is1723. Students should submit their official NewSAT 1 or ACT test results from all test dates.

The selection committee will review test scoresfrom the New SAT 1. The committee will consideran applicant’s highest scores for each section ofthe New SAT 1 (Critical Reading and Math) fromany test administration date. Applicants for thescholars program should take the New SAT 1 orACT no later than December 2010.

It is highly recommended that students submitAdvanced Placement (AP), TOEFL, and SAT IIscores, if applicable.

Placement Testing

Montgomery College requires all new degree-seeking students to undergo placement testing inEnglish, reading, and math prior to enrollment at theCollege. In keeping with Montgomery Collegerequirements, any prospective Montgomery Collegestudent should take the appropriate collegeplacement test (Accuplacer or ESL-Accuplacer/LOEP) for English, reading, and math if the studentfalls below the following levels:

• New SAT 1 Critical Readingor Math score below 550

• ACT composite score below 24• TOEFL score below 575 (paper) or

231 computerized

Applicants to the MBI Scholars program withstandardized test scores below these levels areadvised to make arrangements to take theappropriate placement test prior to February 14,2011, for best consideration. Failure to take theappropriate placement test may adversely affectconsideration for the program.

First Semester Grades

Submission of first semester senior year grades isrequired. For best consideration, first semestergrades should be sent to the Office of Admissions,Rockville Campus no later than March 1, 2011.

Letters of Recommendation

Only two letters of recommendation arerequired, although applicants may submit up tofour letters. Recommendations will be acceptedfrom teachers, counselors, employers, MontgomeryCollege faculty, coaches, internship coordinators,etc.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Please be aware that the financial aid process isseparate and in addition to the admission andscholarship application process.

Scholarship assistance is available for studentsadmitted into the Macklin Business Institute. Basedon the availability of funds, scholarships will beawarded for up to 15 credit hours of tuition andfees for fall and spring semester at the in-countyrates. Students must remain in good standingaccording to program requirements to maintainscholarship benefits. We encourage Macklinapplicants to complete a FAFSA by March 1, 2011for maximum financial aid consideration. Pleasecontact the Financial Aid Office at 240-567-5100for more information.

Montgomery College offers several scholarshipprograms. Applicants not selected for the MBIScholars program may be considered for othermerit-based scholarships at Montgomery College(such as the Board of Trustees Academic Specialtyscholarship).

TRANSFER ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN BuSINESS

This curriculum is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year college and major in general businessor a more specialized field of business such as finance, accounting, international business, marketing, ormanagement. It also provides a solid foundation for students planning to major in economics or pre-law.Completion of all requirements for the curriculum will lead to the award of the associate of arts degree (A.A.) inbusiness.
