Are you looking for a programme that will give you more than just a ‘toolkit’ for

management, one that will challenge the way you think about business and about

your role in the world, organisations, project teams and individual relationships? If so,

the Bath MBA, an advanced general management, postgraduate programme, is

the answer.

Over its 40 year history, the Bath MBA has earned a reputation for excellence, it is

consistently ranked among the world’s leading MBAs by, amongst others, the

Financial Times and the Economist Intelligence Unit. Our reputation stems from a world-class teaching faculty

and through listening to our students, alumni and relevant stakeholders.

The programme offers a comprehensive introduction to the key functional skills that are essential to any

organisation. In addition, innovation and integration are key themes developed throughout the programme.

You will learn not only from leading academics but also from practitioners at the forefront of their fields.

The programme is designed to encourage self-awareness, intuition, cross-cultural sensitivity,

entrepreneurship skills as well as a socially responsible and ethical approach to business and management.

Critical thinking, action-learning, teamwork, creativity, as well as individual and organisational development,

are key differentiators. This, combined with being part of one of Britain's leading universities with modern

facilities in one of England’s most beautiful cities, makes the Bath MBA hard to match.

Professor Andrew Pettigrew

Directing the recent innovation and change within theBath MBA is Dr Juani Swart in collaboration with Bath’srenowned faculty. Championing the essential elements ofthe restructured programme are: Dr Steve McGuire,Professor Veronica Hope-Hailey and Professor Mike Lewis.

The principles of Action Learning are applied within the teaching philosophy for the degree. This means there is heavy emphasis on the output of the degree; ensuring personal effectiveness and powerful outcomes for both individuals and sponsoring employers; creating well-rounded, critical-thinking managers. The programme has been designed to ensure graduates have the skills to manage in a complex, changing world while alsobenefiting from the internationally respected researchexpertise of Bath’s faculty. The Bath MBA – a programme apart

Personal skills development and career coaching: You will take an in-depth look at your own careerpotential through a dedicated stream of work that focuseson developing your managerial competence and self-awareness. You will have the opportunity to workintensively within a learning set guided by a mentor. Youwill have opportunities to develop your critical thinking, influencing, leadership, conflict resolution andcommunication skills throughout the programme.

Understanding the business context: Many MBA programmes launch straight in to the study of functional areas of business without seeking toestablish the wider organisational context and fail toestablish how you, personally, are positioned within thatcontext. At the outset of the Bath MBA you will bechallenged to consider the complexity of the emergentorganisational context that cuts across both public andprivate sectors. You will study the links between businessand society in international and national settings as well as how large and small organisations operate.Throughout the programme you will consider how yourpersonal growth is related to organisational development.

Integrating theoretical knowledge withpractical, problem-solving cases:The Bath MBA equips students with both theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the professional andpersonal skills to manage strategically and successfully in a constantly changing environment. The programmeintegrates theoretical disciplines through the application of knowledge and skills to assignments, projects and live business case studies. It facilitates critical thinking as an effective route to resolving thecomplexities that face managers in today’s rapidlychanging business environment.

Entrepreneurship embedded in the programme: Bath pioneered the entrepreneurial element of the MBA with the renowned ‘Claverton EntrepreneurshipProject’ and over the last 30 years it has refined andconstantly improved its teaching of enterprise. Thisbusiness planning exercise is a unique differentiator of the Bath MBA. It draws together and contextualizes thefunctional knowledge gained during the first phase of the programme to embed enterprise skills along with an understanding of how high-performance and creative teams are developed and managed. Studentsfrequently comment that it is the best part of the degree and several students have taken advantage of the additional opportunity of participating in theUniversity of Bath Business Plan Competition’s £10,000prize fund, sponsored by the £9 million Sulis SeedcornFund, converting their Claverton ideas into money-winning proposals that they are now pursuing as business interests.

It also gave me the time tomake the transition from military tocivilian life. The Claverton experience hascompelled me into serious considerationabout business start-ups, an incrediblyexciting prospect that I would never havedreamed of doing were it not for theBath MBA experience.’

Gerard GrechDirector, Partnerships & Services,France Telecom, Content Division;Director, Mobile EntertainmentForum. Three reasons attracted me to Bath; firstly, the students I metduring the MBA open day weredifferent to the ones I met at otheruniversities, they came from diverse

and interesting backgrounds. One applicant hailed fromthe wine industry, another worked in Formula 1sponsorship and a third helped run a sugar-cane factory in the Caribbean. Secondly, I liked Bath's focus onentrepreneurship. This was by no means a course confinedto theory and academia, but one which involved coming upwith ideas for working businesses, and proposing them to aventure capital company. Last, but not least, there was thestaff. I was impressed by the calibre of academics and theirrange of both teaching and industry experience. Far frombeing an ivory tower, this promised to be somewhere todevelop skills for the real world.

Cary AdamsLloyds TSB International PrivateBanking, Geneva. It was an extremely hard three anda half years. Course content wasfresh, interesting and thought-provoking - there were occasionswhen innovation occurred as adirect response to feedback fromstudents and alumni - this is

absolutely appropriate given the dynamic nature of thebusiness environment many of us work in. Each week atBath was packed, tiring and fun, other students came froma range of industries, backgrounds and cultures - you learnfrom them as well as the lecturers.
