ThemonthofMaystartedwiththecompletionofthedining/multi-purposehallandthewallaroudourschool.Thishassavedthechildrenfromthediscomfortsofwind,dustandrainintheoldmakeshiftdininghall.Parentswhohelpwithcookingthemealshavealsoaneasiertimeservingfoodtothechildren.Wehavesparedthemthestrenuousjobofcarryingheavypotsfromthekitchentotheolddininghall.Childrencannowenjoymealsinacleanandfriendlydininghall.

Eric,ourcontractor,completedthewallfencearoundourschoolinearlyMay.Thishasprovidedforsafetyandsecurityatourschool.Neighbor’sanimalscannolongeraccessourschoolanddestroyourcropsandothervegetation.WeareverygratefultoEricomfortheofferofconstructingawallaroundourschoolforjustthepriceofthematerialsused.TheonlythingremainingtokeepourCentersafeisalargerandmoresolidgateandthemetalgratinginthefrontwall.

b)DewormingtheChildren

AttheendofMayweinvitedalocalHealthofficertocomeanddoamedicalcheckupforallofourchildren.Anumberofhealthissueswere.MostcaseswerereferredtothehealthcentreandotherclinicsinNakuru.Childrenreceivedde-wormingmedicinesandmulti-vitamins.Thesecheck-upsaredoneonaroutinebasis.Thisprocedurehashelpedtokeepourchildrenhealthier.

c) FarmingEveryyearweleaselandtoaddonourschoolfarmtoplantcropsforourfeedingprogram.Thisyearweleased3acresofland.Thisyear,wehaveplantedmaizeandbeans.Parentsalwaysworkinthesefarmsfromplantingtoweedingandharvesting.Thisalwayssavesusmoneyofbuyingmaizeandbeansforourfeedingprogram.InearlyJuneparentswereweedingthefarms.Weareexpectingagoodharvestthisyearifrainscontinueasitsrainingnow.

d) MusicFestivalExtra-curricularactivitiesareamajorpartofeducationsyllabusinKenya.Ithelpsinidentifyingchildrentalentsanddevelopingthem.Ourchildrenperformverywellinacademicandextra-curricularactivities.Theyperformverywellinmusicandpoems.Thisyear,theyperformedstunninglywellinPoemsandMashairisothattheyreachedtheregionallevel.Thesechildrenhavepromotedourschoolinourregion.EveryoneisaskingwhereLiveandLearninKenyaEducationCenteriscomingfrom.Ithasalsoshownpeoplethattalentsarealsofoundintheslums.Thatwasnewtomanypeople.

e) KeninGermanyOnApril29,2019,ItraveledtoGermanyoninvitationofRosenthalOutletCenterinSelb.Thecompanypaidformytravelingcosts.WhileinGermany,Imetanumberofoursponsorswhoreceivedmewarmlyandtookcareofmelikeoneoftheirown.TheytookmetodifferentpartsofGermanyandCzechRepublic.Iwasreceivedattheairportby3sponsors,SylviaWilkerson,DirkKlemeschandAlexandraMerz.Itwasawarmreception.IwashostedbyDirk’sfamilyforthefirst2daysandthelastdaywhilePeterandMamaBriquehostedmeforabouttwoweeks.Itwasagoodexperiencestayingwiththesetwofamilies.DuringmystayinGermany,Ialsovisitedsomesponsors’homes.IvisitedEdgarandElisabeth,JörnandKathrin,StephanandCarola,AlexandraandAlexamongothers.IhadagoodtalkwithUliPötzsch,theMayorofSelb.IinformedhimofallthatwearedoingattheLiveandLearninKenyaEducationCenter.Iappreciatedthesupport

wereceivefromhisofficeandinvitedhimtovisitourprojectinKenyawheretheSelbflagfliesinhonorofguests.IalsovisitedoneofthehighschoolsinStein.IgaveapresentationabouttheLiveandLearninKenyaprojectsinKenyatostudentsandteachersatSteinGymnasium.Theybecameveryinterestedwithwhatwearedoing.Somestudentsappreciatedandpromisedtoshareinformationwiththeirparents.OnApril4thIhadtheopportunitytoattendtheannualLebenundLerneninKeniae.V.membersmeetinginSelb,Germany.Attendanceofthemeetingwasthehighesteveraccordingtomemberspresent.Somemembersinformedmethatitwasbecauseofmypresence.IinformedthemembersofwhatwearedoinginKenya.Ialsoinformedthemaboutourimmediateneeds-kindergartenconstructionandasolidgateatourschool.MemberswereveryhappytomeetmeandshareaKenyan-Germanexperiencewithanabundanceoffoodanddrinksafterwardsandalovelyphotopresentation.
