April 19, 2014 • Greystone Park, Greystone Drive

Each year, the day before Easter Sunday, Greystone’s cutest little Easter Egg Hunters gather in Greystone Park located off of Greystone Drive to see what the Easter Bunny brought them. Greystone Golf & Country Club Members and Residents are invited to take part in the Hunt. The Easter Whistle is blown at promptly 10:00am, and the hunt begins to find the most prize-filled eggs, and the magical golden eggs! Families gather and snap photos of their children grinning ear to ear as they visit the Easter Bunny. The Hoover Belles, high school ladies who represent the City of Hoover come dressed in their beautiful gowns, and assist in hosting the annual hunt. Breakfast treats from Daylight Donuts were enjoyed by all, and two awesome moonwalk bouncy houses were setup for the entertainment of Greystone’s enthusiastic little ones. The annual hunt is funded by Greystone Golf & Country Club, Greystone Residential Association, and Legacy Homeowners’ Association.

Dear fellow Members,

Spring is finally here and not a moment too soon. The warmer weather is just adding to the excitement at Greystone.

With the Champions Tour returning for 2016, 2017, and 2018, plus our projects to make Greystone a Club of Excellence, there has never been a better time to be a member.

I hope you are as excited as am I with the direction our Club is heading. I truly believe that the things happening at Greystone Golf & Country Club today are a turning point. The next five years look bright for us!

All of this exciting growth does not come without some mild inconvenience. The golf course renovations at Founders will require course closure of approximately 90 days, at which time Legacy will be open for play. Please remember our long-term goals for Founders, when we are all crowded on one course during July, August, and September. During our facility upgrades, we will try to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

Bringing the Regions Tradition to Greystone will require creation of a number of committees and will be a lot of work, but should be much fun for our members. Greystone has committed to marshalling a hole in the 2014 Regions Tradition at Shoal Creek. Please consider volunteering for this. There are more details on the next page.

This is also the time of the year that we make a major push in recruiting new members. Please do not forget to invite your friends and coworkers to come and enjoy our Club and consider-ing joining. Our long-term success depends on continued growth of our membership.

Thank you for your continued support of our Club.

Dear Members,

The Future is NOW! After one of the most positive Town Hall meet-ings in Greystone history, the Equity Members have approved the vote to move forward with the building projects discussed at the

Town Hall Meeting on April 9th and on the video (click here for the Town Hall recap video). The overwhelming approval rating of over 95% is the highest that I have ever heard of at a private club!

What are the next steps and what does all of this mean...

Short-term:

A. We will secure a loan with a banking institution. B. We will continue working with Goodwyn Mills Cawood, an architecture firm, on

the Golf Operations Building/Plaza. Preliminary schedule would be to start in July on that building.

C. Continue to work with Goodwyn Mills Cawood on the design and details on the Founders lower level renovation.

D. Renovation to the Founders Golf Course will begin in July – meaning all golf play will be at Legacy after the 4th of July until late September.

E. We are in the process of restructuring the Hours of Operation at Founders for this golf course construction. We will publish the modification prior to construction.

F. We will pay off our existing mortgage. G. We will select a contractor to build the Golf Operation Building/Plaza and

Founders Lower Level renovation. H. There will be some disruption in services, programs, and facilities during the construction timeframe. We

appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

Long-term:

The Club membership will have new facilities that will be aesthetically attractive, spaces that are functional and areas that address our most “challenged” issues. These areas will increase attrition and help attract new families to your Club.

Greystone Invitational

The 14th Annual Greystone Invitational, one of the top 25 Amateur Events in the USA, will be held June 19-22 on the Founders Course. This year we have a real need for Greystone families to host players. This unique experience creates a longtime bond with some incredibly talented young golfers (mainly college students). Mrs. Missy McCabe, Housing Chair, can be reached at [email protected] or 540-8483.

Learn more about the Greystone Invitational on the following pages.

I wish each of you and your families a safe and healthy summer!

Golf’s Future Stars to shine in the 2014 Greystone Invitational

In only its 14th season, the Greystone Invitational has quickly become one of the world’s premier amateur golf championships. The Greystone Invitational began in 2000 with a mission to become a top-tier golf tournament with a strong mix of non-exempt and exempt players of various ages that would draw contestants from across the world and to contest the event on a well-prepared championship golf course.

The tournament field annually reads like a Who’s Who of collegiate, local, national and international amateur golfers as they make the Greystone Invitational a key event on their summer competition schedule. Past GI Champions include present PGA TOUR members Michael Thompson (2007) and Lee Williams (2001 & 2003) and Emerald Coast tour winner Glenn Northcutt (2010). Past Champion in 2004, Jonathan Dismuke is now golf coach at the University of Houston and the 2002 GI Champion Zane Goldthorp has numerous top ten finishes in amateur events including a 4th place finish in the 2012 Georgia Mid-Am.

The remaining GI Champions, Bobby Spiller (2005), Mark Harrell (2006), Woodie Eubanks (2008), Justin Yoder (2009), Bo Andrews (2011) and Michael Johnson (2012) are all still very competitive in numerous top-level amateur events as well as competing professionally.

Many other GI contestants have moved on to domestic and international pro tours around the globe. One recent GI participant, Will Wilcox, is now playing on the PGA TOUR and competed for the lead in this year’s Sony Open and won on the Web.com tour in 2013. Two other past contestants - James Bowen from Auburn and Carl Santos-Ocampo from Notre Dame - have multiple wins on the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tours.

Michael Thompson is thus far the most decorated GI champion finishing as Runner-up in the 2007 U.S. Amateur the same summer he won the Greystone Invitational on Greystone’s Legacy Course. Michael attended Tulane University for two seasons before Hurricane Katrina would force The Green Wave to disband their golf team. After transferring to the University of Alabama Thompson’s stellar play earned him the 2008 SEC Player of the Year. As a finalist in the 2007 U.S. Amateur Thompson earned invitations to the 2008 Masters Tournament and the 2008 U.S. Open. (continued on next page)

Golf’s Future Stars to shine in the 2014 Greystone Invitational continued...

While he missed the cut in the Masters he went on to finish as low amateur in the Open at Torrey Pines finishing in 28th place. Thompson would once again finish as a Runner-Up in a USGA event but this time it was in the 2012 U.S. Open losing by only one shot to eventual winner Webb Simpson at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, CA.

Feeding off a successful 2012 season, Thompson had his best season on the PGA TOUR including a win at the 2013 Honda Classic. With his win, he would reach a career-high 45th in the Official World Golf Ranking and finish the season at 39th in FedEx Cup points. Thompson has already earned over $4.5 million in his pro career.

Last year’s 2013 champion, Tyler Hitchner, is the youngest GI Champion ever winning during his Junior year of high school at the age of 17!

"I am totally amazed that I won and I’m so excited to win the Greystone Invitational as my first major amateur event,” Hitchner stated after the trophy presentation. Tyler added how truly excited he and his family were with the win. "We feel like we've won the Masters!!!"

When you look at the list of past winners and participants in the short 13 year history of the Greystone Invitational, the confidence and experience gained as a competitor or as an eventual Champion just might lead to an eventual 'real' Masters win!

Make your plans now to see golf’s future stars shine during the 14th Annual Greystone Invitational held June 19-22, 2014 at the Greystone Golf & Country Club Founders Course! You might just catch a glimpse of the next Tiger, Bubba, Phil, Gary, Jack or Arnie!

For more information visit the Invitational website at www.greystoneinvitational.com.

Missy McCabe, Greystone Invitational Housing Committee Chair is searching for volunteers to host a college age player in their home. Please contact Missy, [email protected] or 540-8483 if you are willing/able to host a player. Host families will receive a take-home lasagna dinner and wine on Wednesday evening, meals and beverages during the tournament, an invitation to the Players Party on Friday night, and a customized Greystone Invitational hat, shirt and badge. Dear Members,

CASH FOR CLUBS

Do you ever look around the garage or the basement and think what am I going to do with all these clubs lying around? Well, in case you didn’t know, we at Greystone get you top dollar for your clubs in the form of an account credit if you have already purchased clubs from us.

In the event that you are just liquidating old clubs we will take the net proceeds of the sale and put it in the form of a Gift Certificate for you to purchase merchandise from either golf shop. We have people cleaning out their garages and attics, and turning in their unused clubs for cash.

We’ve successfully completed over 475+ auctions and transacted over $90,000 for Greystone members to date. Greystone gives you the retail price of what your clubs sell for. What many don’t know is most places will give you a price for your clubs, but then turn around and sell the clubs for a higher dollar figure to someone else. Greystone gives you the true retail price so you can always feel good about the transaction.

Thinking of trying it out? Simply tag your clubs with your name and specs of the clubs and bring them to the Founders golf shop. Let us turn those clubs in for good old American CA$H. I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that when you buy new clubs from us we give you a free guest pass for every $500 spent before tax. Just another advantage of patronizing your golf shop that you own while getting something in return.

TILLIE BAILEY INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Greystone Ladies Golf Association (GLGA) President Christa Sligh recently announced that this year’s Tillie Bailey Memorial Invitational Ladies’ Golf Tournament, held at the Founders Course May 29-30 will benefit the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation. Tillie Bailey was taken by ovarian cancer, and to honor Tillie and to support those battling cancer, we ask you to spread the word, donate and participate in this annual event. More information to come via E-News.

NEW CLUB CAR GOLF CARTS

Our new Club Car golf carts have arrived at both courses! Effective May 1st, the 18 hole cart fee will be $20 (a $1 increase) and the 9 hole cart fee will be $10 (a $0.50 increase). We're certain you'll enjoy the smooth ride and the sleek look of the new carts!

Until next time. “See you on the Tee.”
