CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BILLERICA
NEWS
Dear friends, One of my first memories after arriving in the parishes of Billerica was concele-brating daily Mass with Fr Shawn and Fr Marty. Fr Shawn presided and I preached the homily. There were only fifty or so people in the congregation but I was nervous, so nervous in fact I’m sure no one understood what I was saying—I wasn’t even sure what I was saying! Thankfully, you have always been kind and patient and because of that I have grown.
As was announced at the Masses this past weekend Cardinal Seán has appointed me, effective June 2, 2015, as Parochial Vicar for a new collaborative in South Boston. In this new assignment I’ll serve at Saints Monica and Augustine Parish, Saint Peter (Lithuanian) Parish, Saint Vincent de Paul Parish and the Seaport Chapel. Hav-ing gotten over the initial surprise, I've found the idea of leaving the parishes of Saint Andrew, Saint Mary and Saint Theresa of Lisieux difficult. I've forged many friendships here that will be with me for years to come. However, I hope you will share my excitement as I begin to take up the challenges and opportunities that minis-tering to the people of South Boston will bring. When I was in the seminary I used to think the priest was the one who did all of the teaching, but now I know better and I am grateful. The lessons I've learned here in Billerica have been of great benefit to me and will no doubt benefit the people I'll serve in the future. Since I won't be moving to “Southie" until June 2nd I look for-ward to making the most of the next month with you! Please keep me in your prayers during this time of transition. God's blessings, Fr Souza
SPECIAL COLLECTION
NEPAL EARTQUAKE
Cardinal Séan has authorized a special collection be taken up
NEXT SUNDAY in support of relief efforts to those areas devastated by the powerful earthquake that struck Nepal this past Saturday.
All monies will be distributed to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and other Catholic agencies working in partner-ship with the local church to meet the most urgent relief efforts in that area.
A CRS team is on the ground in Kathmandu, the capital city and one of the most affected areas, providing food and shelter.
CRS is supporting the emergency effort with critical sup-plies for families rendered homeless by the quake: tarps and other materials for emergency shelter, means for clean water, hygiene supplies and sanitation materials.
Thank you for your generosity !!
“Who do you say that I am?” Multi-media Exhibit May 30-31
To celebrate the conclusion of our 2014-2015 Adult Faith Formation program based on “Who do you say that I am?” we will have a multi-media exhibit at St. Theresa Parish Hall during the weekend of May 30-31.
All parishioners are encouraged to participate in the ex-hibit by contributing an artistic expression of any kind in response to Jesus’ question to each of us: “Who do you say that I am?” It can be a drawing, photo, an original prayer or poem (or one of your favorites), a wood carv-ing, etc…the sky is the limit!
Submissions for the exhibit may be dropped off at St. Theresa Parish Hall on Thursday evening, May 28th be-tween 4-6PM or Friday, May 29 th between 9:30 AM- 1PM.
All are welcome to come and enjoy the exhibit on May
30 from 2-6:30 and May 31 from 10AM-1:30PM.
