Marathon to assess residents for South Road improvements
Athens increases coaches salaries
The School District of Ath-
ens board of education last
week Tuesday voted to increase
the pay for athletic coaches.
The decision was based on
a former practice to pay some
sports coaches a pre-season
pay while other sports coaches
were not equally compensated.
Former district administra-
tor Mike Dailey had informed
the board of the change earlier this summer saying the p r e - s e a s o n pay was in-c o n s i s t e n t across the dif-ferent sports.
New dis-trict admin-istrator Tim Micke said, The pay
schedule had some nuances
that needed to be xed. Phi-
losphically we now have the
seasons all balanced and we
equated the pay for the seasons
based on the groupings.These groupings were pre-
established some 40 years ago,

The village of Marathon board of trust-
ees last week Wednesday unanimously
voted to make improvements to South
Road to be paid for, in part, by a special
assessment to South Road homeowners.
Trustee Jacki Seliger was absent from the
meeting. The project includes reconstruction
of
the roadway from the intersection of East
Street to Vitello Lane and includes in-
stalling a new base course, ditch grading,
driveway culverts, ne grade and compact
base course and asphalt pavement. In ad-
dition, the board decided to blacktop the
road with asphalt pavement. The estimat-
ed total cost of improvements are $124,775.
The bid was awarded to McCabe Construc-
tion, Eau Claire.Village administrator Dave Joswi
ak
said residents would have 15 years to pay
back the special assessment.
I dont see any problem stretching the
payment out 15 years, he said. They
would have the option to pay it back more
quickly.Total assessments to individual pr

erty owners range from $5,363 to $7,640.
The total assessments are projected to be
$73,525.At a public hearing held July 17, Sou

Road landowners told the board they were
opposed to the special assessments and fol-
lowing the meeting last week some voiced
their disappointment with the boards de-

id,
I wish I could spend your money!
He told the board he and his neighbors
planned to seek legal counsel. This is
really embarrassing. You are going to be
wrong on this when we bring legal into it.
The properties are being assessed for
the roadway, grading, ditching, culverts,
restoration and associated construction
installed in the project. The villages cost for this project will
be
$81,000.
