Letter to the BuzzPolitical Mud I keep seeing these articles about the primary here orHD 33. So ar the only negative stuff I have seen is rompeople supporting Casey Knudsen slinging mud, andthinking maybe they don’t know their candidate as well asthey thought. Like how Knudsen has a higher percentageo out o state donors, one being a Dallas oil lawyer! Why doesn’t Knudsen have a website that outlineshis policies? What he believes and his vision or HD 33?I or one have searched, and ound nothing that tells meabout who Knudsen is, what he believes, or tells me he

has a grasp on policy making.Tat DC policy house, campaign manager, and

strategist, I have met this young man. He is an ambitiousyoung college student helping a riend. I would thinkone would be grate ul or a riend like that. Tat $2,000he got paid? I asked about it, it was a reimbursement or

uel and supplies he spent out o his own pocket. O course I asked about those ancy yers everyonis talking about. Tose were mailed and show a Coloradostamp, because Mike’s riends wanted to help him, andthat’s how they could. I see a pattern, people are drawn

to leaders, ones with plans, ones that get things done.Tat is why Mike Burns has so much help.

I don’t know what out o state political rms aretrying to buy HD 33, but I do know that no one ownsMike Burns. Knudsen has taken PAC money! I must agree with the other writers. We need aproven leader, one with ethics, and one who has a planand understands policy. We need a person who willcontinue to make the Hi-Line a great place to live. Weneed Mike Burns on uesdy, June 7th! ~ Joe Wiles

Te bartender stops him, andsays “Well, be ore you order, let me tell you about ourspecial.” He directs the man’s attention down to the endo the bar, where there are two huge chunks o meathanging on meat hooks. “I you can run down to the end o the bar, jumpup, and take a bite out o one o those pieces o meat, you get to drink ree here or the rest o your li e. But I’llwarn you, i you try it and ail, you have to buy all o thedrinks or the rest o the bar all night.” Te man replies “Well, let me think about it. Letter to the BuzzAPR Vision vs. Reality 1. American Serengeti. Te auna o the real Serengeti

must migrate because o seasonal weather conditions.Tose conditions do not exist in our more temperate

climate. Also, read the ascinating 2002 Guardianarticle by George Monbiot (available online), inwhich he describes the creation o the real Serengetias an “ethnic cleansing programme” o “possibly thelongest-inhabited place on earth.”

    2. History. Te Original Americans have a long historyin this area. Te Black eet were cattlemen. Small poxdecimated the Black eet. (Actually, this is linguisticallyinaccurate. Decimation was a punishment in theRoman army. One out o every ten soldiers in a unitwas executed, a rate similar to the ravages o theBlack Plague in Europe. In this continent, Europeandiseases slew as many as nine out o ten.) Tisallowed burgeoning bison numbers. wenty yearslater, Lewis and Clark’s journals (I recommend G.E.Moulton’s Te Denitive Journals o Lewis & Clark;check out the month beginning May 6, 1805 in Vol.4) leave no doubt about the environmental damagedone to the area. In act, it made Lewis and Clark’s journey easier. Tey complained about cactus alongthe Missouri. Can you imagine pulling those boatsupstream through willows, trees, dead all, andtangled piles o trash lef by oods? A dust storm inour area shut down progress. Lewis and Clark weresaved rom a ash ood by Sacajawea. Does anyonehave any guesses about what caused the bare groundthat is a prerequisite or dust storms and ash oods?It wasn’t sodbusters or domestic grazers, there were just bison and prairie dogs and Black eet horses tobare the ground.

    3. Foreign Entrepreneurs. Foreign entrepreneurstrailed herds o Southern cattle into our area

hoping to get rich quick by attening them on “ reegrass”. Hard winters wiped out 99% o those cattle.Montana rancher Granville Stuart lost 40 to 60%,because he naturally practiced better stewardship inorder to remain sustainable, rather than the get richquick model. Te APR (Annual Percentage Return)plans to get rich quick by providing philanthropicaltax deductions or the very rich. Tis leaves othercitizens with higher taxes, compromised oodsupplies, and an indebted government. Te oreignentrepreneurs in Granville Stuart’s time lef him

dealing with introduced diseases such as exas tickever and a grassland habitat ravaged by the re

ranging grazers. However, the true consequences arethe same now as they were in the 1800s: healthy landand water resources are sacriced. Monetary greedrules. Tose indigenous peoples with connections totheir land and homes are displaced.

    4. Numbers. Free ranging grazers without controllednumbers will damage land and watersheds. APR hasnot proven their ability to manage numbers.

    5. Water. APR’s vision includes removing man-madewater sources. Tis will adversely affect resident auna:wildli e, birds, amphibians, etc. It will also concentratethe ree-ranging bison along the rivers so conditions

ound by Lewis and Clark will be re-created.In conclusion: APR claims they are special. I agree. Teyhave not read history. Tey do not understand livestockmanagement. Tey do not understand management o

prairie resources. Tey want to possess more money tothe detriment o other US citizens. In short, they have no true connection with theprairie except the desire to use it or monetary gain.Private jets and helicopters are not the way to educatethemselves. ~ Rose Stoneberg
