Joey Room

ALL THINGS

ANIMALS!!

The Joey‟s had a fun April with exploring all things animals. We looked at all different types of animals, how different they

looked and feel. Which ones had fur and which ones didn‟t. We talked about our family pets and the other types of pet people might like to have at home. The Joeys had fun with washing our toy animals and once cleaned we talked about where we

would find the animal whether it being the jungle, the farm or in the ocean. The Joey‟s took to creating their own animals with the creative art activities, using paint and paper plates for Jellyfish and became animals themselves with a fun-filled

afternoon of face painting.

Rosza, Ava & Jasper are on the

move!

Joseph and Marlee are

pulling themselves up to stand!

May will be Masterchef month in the

Joeys rooms. The children will be have the choice to participate in lots of different cooking experiences. We also welcome any parents who would

like to join in with us in cooking yummy food.

Possum Room

PRIMARY COLOURS

April was all about Primary colours for the Possums. We had lots of fun incorporating red, blue and yellow into our creative art and experimented what happens when we mix two of the colours together, thus creating secondary colours. The Possums discovered mixing them

altogether created BROWN! As a part of their monthly cooking experience the Possums helped to make playdough, separating it into 3 separate dough and coloured them into the primary colours. Then we had the fun of going crazy and blending them together.

For the month of may, the Possum room will be changing the curriculum to better accommodate the older children and their development as we have identified a number of children who would be due for transitioning to the Koala room will be staying Possum‟s for the time being, due to occupancy.

Possum celebrated Easter with making Easter hats and baskets.

We enjoyed a yummy hot cross bun afternoon tea with family

and friends

To commemmorate ANZAC Day, the Possums used their creative skills and made some Flanders‟ Red Poppies.

Koala Room

April was health and hygiene month for the Koalas. The educators talked with the children about the importance of brushing their teeth and the tools that you can be used to clean them. We extended on this by being creative with art. The

Koalas were given a picture of a mouth, a toothbrush and paints, and were encouraged to use the paint as toothpaste and to brush the teeth on the page.

The Koalas also talked about germs

(ewww!) and the importance of hand washing. We experimented using glitter glue to represent germs and using dif-ferent techniques of washing our hands

in warm water to be certain all the germs/glue is gone.

DON’T FORGET YOUR TOOTHBRUSH!

Koala’s mission for May will be ANIMALS!

Talking about animals, exploring different types of animals, which animals people usually have as pets and what they feel like.

To commemorate ANZAC day, the Koalas had a cooking

experience of making ANZAC biscuits. We also planted Flander‟s Red Poppy seeds and created our own

poppy‟s using paper plates and red and black paint.

Penguin Room

Based on a Penguin‟s adventure to the coast, the Penguin‟s had fun with

focusing on marine life during April. One of our Penguin‟s brought in shells that she had collected at the beach to show everyone at group time. A discussion

was made about the shells, and in the end it was decided by the children that they would like to incorporate the shells into something creative. Paints were set out, and the children chose their desired shell and decorated them with

different colours. Penguins extended their creative skills further and created Octopuses out paper plates and cut up coloured tissue paper.

Penguins continued the fun of exploring

all the exciting aspects of circus. We created yummy ice creams with pastel coloured puffy paint and had a game of

ring toss.

Penguin‟s goals for May will be based on a the children‟s interest on cloud, which we will ex-tend in to a space and gravity project.

The Penguins will be planting Pumpkin seeds and experimenting with them to see how best to look after the seeds to make them grow. We will also be continuing on with our scissor skills.

Emu Room

Emu‟s April research project was on Leonardo DaVinci, his art-work and his inventions. We started with discussing his artwork, mainly his piece “The Starry Night” which then after the Emu‟s created their own version of the art piece. Another of DaVinci‟s art methods was le fresco. This technique was used in creating the last supper. Le fresco means plaster, the Emu‟s were given the some plaster of Paris and created sculptures of their own.

As we talked about DaVinci‟s vast inventions the children were becoming more and more interested in what they can create and become little inventors themselves. Using our constructive resources within, like lego, some of the Emu‟s made their own model aeroplane and experimented to see if they would fly. On discovering these ones didn‟t fly and the lego broke apart upon impact, the Emu‟s laughed and tried again. It‟s all about trial and error, the different lessons we can learn by giving something a go and what we could do next to change them.

To extend on the children‟s interest in the dreamtime

story „Mununja the Butterfly‟ the Emu‟s had an excursion

out to the Arboretum. To visit the gardens that has been

created based on the story.

Emu experimented with many different cooking methods and recipes in April. Making Lemonade Scones, Pumpkin Damper, Sushi and Hot Cross Buns (which we served to our parents at our Easter afternoon tea)

Emu‟s plans for May: - Research project on Butterflies, to extend on excursion. - Cultural investigation into the Ngunnawal cultureand the dreamtime. - Term 2 of School Readiness begins - French lessons will resume.
