St. Cecilia C.S. School News
Principal’s Message
Dear Parents / Guardians,
As we continue to celebrate the joy of Easter, there is a feeling that the risen Lord will assist us in responding positively to the call for us to be peaceful people, and a loving and an enriched community.
May, as every other month of the year, will be a busy one at St. Cecilia’s. With the celebration of Catholic Education week on the first week of May, the boys and girls will be exhibiting their work in the gymnasium on the evening of May 5th from 6pm to 8pm.We invite parents to pop into the school and to take a walk through our school gallery that will be set up in the gym. This year we will once again display class paintings which will be auctioned via a Silent Auction in order to raise funds to purchase more art supplies for our students.
The boys and girls will also be involved in the Wizard of Oz musical on Thursday, May 12 that will take place in the auditorium at Bishop Marrocco Merton Secondary School. Staff and students have been working3rd long and hard to ensure a very enjoyable performance. Tickets have been on sale for quite some time. We are expecting a filled auditorium.
Academically the grade 3 and 6 students will be gearing up for their EQAO testing which will take place from May 27th to June 3rd. Our Grade 2, 5 and 7 students will be writing the Cat-4 test within this same time span. We continue, as we know you do as well, in ensuring that our students, your children, always strive for excellence in all that they do while always maintaining a safe, bully free environment where hands are always used for helping and never hurting.

Prayer for Compassion
Lord, help us to remember that others don't always
see the way we do, hear what we hear, Feel what we
feel, or understand things the way we've come to
understand them.
You give each of us gifts that are uniquely ours but so
often we fail to value the gift in
Another, judging other gifts as wrong, or somehow less
important than our own.
Give us the compassion you want us to have, Lord, and
teach us to embrace each other with compassionate
arms, no matter what our age, color, creed, history, or
belief.
Help us to remember that you are life itself, and that
you are using every one of our unique gifts to bring us
together with you once again.
AMEN

St. Cecilia Parent Advisory

We hope you all are enjoying the nice(r) weather. Here
is a roundup of what’s happening in the parent
community:
First Communion Luncheon-Thank you very much to
Christine Yang and her band of moms who are
organizing a beautiful luncheon this month for students
in Grade 2 to mark the occasion of their First
Communion.
CSPC Executive Positions-If you are interested in
volunteering in helping with our amazing parent
community, consider becoming a CSPC executive
member! We are looking for people interested in being:
secretary (helping with the administration of the
Committees and taking minutes at the monthly
meetings), treasurer (managing the Committee’s
financials) and chair/co-chair (providing leadership to the
group, working with the administration and chairing
meetings). We are a fun, friendly group and mentorship
is available to help you learn the ropes!
Fun Fair-Save the date! This year’s fun fair is Thursday
June 9th from 3pm onwards. Plan to spend the evening
eating, drinking and being merry with our school
community.
High School information Night-We know that this can
be an anxiety raising time for students and parents. We
are looking forward to hosting our first ‘Secondary
School Information Night’ on May 10th at 6pm. Stay
tuned for more information if your child is in Grade 6.
Thanks to Ms. Grossi for helping us organize this.
School Drop Off Safety Program-Thank you to the
parent and student volunteers who are helping to make
the morning drop of safer for our students. Please
remember to observe the rules of the road when dropping
your child off at school.
Please let us know if we can be of help. We look
forward to seeing you at our next meeting, Tuesday May
10th at 7pm.

Guidance Corner All About Me
We are slowly beginning to make our way into
the junior division classes, to get the students
started on their All About Me portfolio on
www.myBlueprint.ca/tcdsb, in accordance with
the Creating Pathways to Success (2013)
Ministry document. Students are creating online
portfolios that encourage them to reflect on their
strengths and interests and to get them to think
about setting goals and preparing for their future.
Ask your child to log into their accounts and
show you what they have done so far.
Grade 8 Exit Survey In accordance with Creating Pathways to
Success (2013), all grade 8 students will be
filling out an exit survey as they work towards
fulfilling the expectation of finalizing their
Individual Pathways Plan (IPP). All grade 8
students should now have an Individual
Pathways Plan on www.myblueprint.ca/tcdsb
and teachers have been encouraging them to
work towards answering the four questions for
Education and Career/Life Planning. Ask your
child to show you their Individual Pathways
Plan, or create your own account and follow
along with them.
