55th Annual Car Show and 5th
Downtown Show, June 2nd
Northern Neck
The Northern Neck Region is hosting their 19th Annual An-
tique Auto Show on May 26th in Heathsville, Virginia. Call K
Harrison, 804-443-4478
Our Region is scheduled to
host ODMA meet in 2013 The Historic Fredericksburg Region will be hosting the
annual ODMA meet in Fredericksburg in 2013. This pre-
sents a big challenge to our club since we will have to plan
and put on two major events back to back, the ODMA meet
in May and our annual car show in June. We will need a
significant commitment from our members to assist in any
way they can.

Cover Story
Hi Doug;
Finally getting around to sending you a couple of
pictures from the USO dance at Chancellor Middle
School recently. We only had four cars show up but
they were well received by the students and parents
that attended the event. As the sun receded we were
treated to a chill wind that had us scrambling for what-
ever coats and blankets that we could find. This event
is always a pleasure to attend and our participation is
always appreciated. Mayo Carter is the driving force
behind the affair and as you can see form her picture
she really gets into the part with her students. The kids
dress up as soldiers, sailors, red cross ladies, etc. and
are amazing in their interest in our old cars from that
era. Mayo gave out framed awards for each of our
participants and even carnations for each of us. From
our club we had Laura and Jimmy Lowe with their '47
plymouth, Herb and Mary Long with their '42 Ford,
Tommy Gatewood and his son, Billy, and their '40
Chevrolet, and myself with our '40 Ford. Nice time was had by all. Cheers. Jason Javaras
President’s Message
Car show and touring season has arrived in Fredericksburg, along with all the blooming trees, bushes, flowers, sneezing, runny noses and watery eyes! As we sweep away the yellowish-green pollen and make our way to the garage we are busy getting our cars ready for shows around the state. Some of us will use our annual visit to Carlisle to buy supplies or parts to ready our cars for the season. I always enjoy meeting up with fellow club members as we walk row after row of old car memorabilia, parts, polishes
and junk.
The calendar is already beginning to fill up with car shows and other events that we enjoy being a part of. The boldest date on my calendar is SATURDAY, JUNE 2, SATURDAY, JUNE 2, SATURDAY, JUNE 2, SATURDAY, JUNE 2, when we play host to all our sister clubs on the historic streets of downtown Fredericksburg. For the next couple of months, the meet committee will be busy with all the up front pa-perwork and arrangements that need to take place well in advance of the actual show date. However, this show does not happen with just a few committee members’ efforts. The day of the show there will be enough things to do so that all of us will have an op-
portunity to help make this event a memorable one for our participants and spectators.
So, be an active member. Don’t wait to be asked to help. Volunteer your help be-fore, during and after actual show hours. Believe me, you will be put to work and your
help will be appreciated. J Brown, President

member (Allen McCarley) were present.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the March minutes.
Wayne DuBois presented the treasurer’s report. A motion was made, seconded and passed to pay the bills presented: Copy Center Plus
(printing of newsletter and membership roster), USPS (post office box rental for one year), Creative Signs (show banners), Connie Brown
(postage/car show mailings and club mailings), Wave Printing (posters).

2012 Car Meet2012 Car Meet2012 Car Meet2012 Car Meet: J. Gordon Brown reported that: the car show posters and flyers were available for members to hand out. (NOTE: During
discussion, it was discovered that the posters were incorrect. Some sponsors were left off. The disk for the posters was correct, so they
will be re-done at the printer’s expense. The check will be held until the printing is correct.) Members are encouraged to hand out flyers
at car shows and other events they attend in the next weeks before our show. A second mailing will be going out in the next two weeks to
last year’s show participants who have not responded to the first mailing. The Take-Apart T will be part of our show again this year. The
No-Parking signs have been ordered from the city. We will need to figures out a way to hang the signs. Duct tape or any tape that will
tear the bark of the trees or leave a residue may not be used. In light of the recent upheaval over the Oktoberfest event held downtown
in the fall, the city has assured us that our plans for the car show are in good standing and we have approval from all the necessary au-
thorities. Lauman Schooler reported that trophy sponsorship is going well and encouraged members to help in that process.
ODMA ODMA ODMA ODMA –––– 2012201220122012: The 2012 ODMA will take place 5/3-5/12 in Roanoke. Lauman Schooler reported that he had already sent the neces-
sary information pertaining to judges attending from our region.

Old BusinessOld BusinessOld BusinessOld Business: A fall event is being planned by the HFFI concerning the history of Old Route 1. They have asked for our club’s participa-
tion. A representative wants to attend our meeting in May to give us information about the event. We will ask her to attend in June in-
stead. Our May meeting is usually very busy with last minute details pertaining to our show. By the time of the June meeting, the show
will have taken place.
New BusinessNew BusinessNew BusinessNew Business: : : : The State Corporation Commission papers need to be filed along with a $25 check. Connie Brown will take care of this.
A discussion concerning the rising cost of maintaining a post office box for the club was held. The cost has risen $20 per year. Not much
mail comes to the box, but rather goes to home addresses of officers, such as the President and Treasurer. We are paid up through
March 31, 2013. A motion was made, seconded and passed to discontinue the use of a post office box after that time. A discussion
concerning the extra cost incurred with color printing for the Magneto was held. Basically, the cost of printing the newsletter each
month has doubled since we started using color. . . . Then there is the extra cost of mailing a newsletter to each club member not present at
the meeting (most months 40+). Several suggestions were made (no color, increase advertising cost, no mailings to absent members,
color on-line newsletter – black/white printed), but it was decided to table the discussion until a later meeting when there are more
members present. Andy Gotchel mentioned the USO Dance to be held at Chancellor Middle School on Friday, 4/27/12. They need cars
dating from 1932 to 1949. The cars will need to be present from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Also, the Pied-
mont Region show will be held 4/29/12 at the Sam’s Club in Charlottesville.
50505050----50 Raffle50 Raffle50 Raffle50 Raffle: Ryland Tedeton won the 50-50 raffle and graciously donated his winnings back to the club.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:30 p.m. Ben Schooler closed in prayer. Refreshments were served.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie L. Brown

Several club members attended the 2012 ODMA Meet in Roanoke, VA on the weekend of May 5. Some of the
awards they received include a preservation award for Lauman Schooler and his 1973 Ford LTD, preservation for Wally
Hunt ‘s 1947 Willys Overland Jeep and John Garnett received a Senior award for his 1969 Dodge Super Bee. Ben and
Lauman Schooler provided judging services.
There were a total of 106 cars on display. There would have
been more but the threat of rain all day kept several participants
away. The Roanoke Valley Region did a great job hosting the meet
which was held at the campus of Virginia Western Community Col-
lege.
The tidewater region went away with the ODMA trophy with
11 cars at the show and one of their members won best in show with
his beautifully restored 1929 Buick.
