and donations, especially over the next couple of years, which
administrators expect to be particularly challenging. Here are ways
that you can help:
Books: You can donate your gently used books to be cataloged if
needed, or to be sold in the Friends of the Library Bookstores.
Service: Adults and youth, 14 years or older, are accepted as part
of their volunteer program.
Donations: Businesses or individuals can offer coupons for goods
or services, event tickets, monetary gifts, electronic grand prizes (like
e-readers or gaming systems), or any other small prize items.

It’s been said, “music is the medicine of the mind.” Whether it’s true or not, Geist resident Ann Manship has it all covered. This pharmacist is also a violinist with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra. Not only that, she is a founding member of the CSO since its inception 35 years ago and the only founding member still playing today.
“I come from a musical family and have been playing the violin since my school days in Fort Wayne,” Ann said. “My mother was a professional violinist and teacher and my aunt and sister play the flute. I chose not to pursue a professional music career, enrolling at Purdue to study the profession of pharmacy instead, because I thought it was important to get into a solid profession. But I had to have something outside of studying hard, so I just kept playing the violin.”
So after being part of a youth orchestra in Fort Wayne, Ann arrived in West Lafayette where she was encouraged to audition for the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. She met her husband, Phil, at Purdue. He’s also a pharmacist, at the CVS at 79th and Fall Creek. After graduation and marriage, they moved to Carmel where they were both pharmacists. One day she saw a notice about tryouts for the beginnings of what is now the Carmel Symphony Orchestra.
“I had been out of school for nine months and had not yet found a group to play in, so I auditioned,” she said. “Back then, Carmel had a community theater group, but no symphony. In fact, the high school, despite being fairly affluent, had no string music program. A group of three musicians, including former Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra violinist Victor Ziedonis, started the group and
