The Four Keys of Faith FormationThe Four Keys are provided to help you nourish your child’s/grandchild’s faith.Scripture Readings for the Seventh Weekend of Easter:Acts 1:1-11; Psalm 47; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 24:44-53This week’s reading focus on the Ascension of our Lord.

Family Devotions: Before Jesus ascended into heaven we are told that he “lifted up his hands and blessedthem.” As part of your household devotional times this week, read Luke 24:50-52 aloud and then bless oneanother using these words from Numbers 6:24-26:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his face to you, and give you peace.”

Caring Conversation: Discuss in your household or small group: Share about a time when a special friend or a relative went away. What was it like to say goodbye? How did you cope while they were away? AfterJesus was taken up into heaven, we are told that his followers “returned” to Jerusalem with great joy.” Why do you think they were joyful rather than sad? Jesus was taken up into heaven while he was still blessing his followers. Name one blessing you have received from Jesus.

Family Service: As Lutherans, we believe that we respond to what we have heard through the Good News of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Good works(good fruit) happens, and we do not even know about it. As parents, you can “create” opportunities for yourkids to learn about service, with the understanding that service is not a “have-to” but rather a “get-to” –a “response-to.” Having heard the Gospel preached, we move beyond ourselves, caring for our neighbor.Think about the Scripture verses for the week and the conversations you have shared. God has giftedyou and your children with abilities, personalities, and certain qualities. As a parent, family member, or friend,you can help them discover their unique gifts by encouraging them in the things that they do well and feel passionate that they can serve others.

Family Traditions & Rituals: Right before he ascends, Jesus tells the disciples that they are the ones whoknow what happened in Jerusalem (what we know as the Easter story) and that they need to tell the story to other people. Pray this prayer together: “Powerful God, we thank you for the gifts you give us. Help us to use our gifts like the disciples did, by going out into the world and sharing the Good News of Christ.Amen.”
