Measuring volume using a measuring cylinder

• Place the measuring cylinder on a flat surface.

• Position the eye at the same level as the liquid level.

Page 4: Matter - A laboratory lesson

Volume of water = 40 cm3

Page 5: Matter - A laboratory lesson

What is the volume of the marble?

Page 6: Matter - A laboratory lesson

(1) Before marble put in, water level = 60 cubic cm

(2) After marble put in, wtaer level = 62.5 cubic cm

(3) Volume of the marble = 62.5 cubic cm – 60 cubic cm

= 2.5 cubic cm

Liquids

A liquid has no definite shape but has a definite volume.

Having a definite volume makes a liquid

hard to be compressed.

Gases

A gas has no definite shape and no definite volume.

Therefore, it can be COMPRESSED easily.
