Types of Symmetry[syn- together + metron measure]

The simplest symmetry is Reflection Symmetry (sometimes called Line Symmetry or Mirror Symmetry). It is easy to see, because one half is the reflection of the other half.

Line symmetry

Reflection symmetry• The reflection in this lake also has symmetry, but in

this case:• the Line of Symmetry runs left-to-right• it is not perfect symmetry, because the image is

changed a little by the lake surface.

Topic: Symmetry

Task: Rotational Symmetry Art WorkFollow the steps in the next few slides to create a rotational symmetry art piece.

You will need:- 1 piece of A4 paper- Scissors- Colour pencils and/or textas

Draw a circle and cut it out.

Fold it in half and half again to create 8 segments.

Use it as a guide to mark the 8 segments on an identical circle

Use a ruler to draw the eight segments.

Take a segmentcut from one of the original folded circles.

Draw a pattern on the segment...anything goes!

Scribble pencil on the back of the segment.

Lay the pattern in one segment ... exactly.Draw over the pattern... It will print!

Repeat this on each segment.

Start to colour the pattern. Repeating each colour in every segment
