RED BULLS AT TORONTO FC – APRIL 27, 2013 – 2:00 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD RED BULLS SQUARE OFF AGAINST TORONTO FC SATURDAY The New York Red Bulls kick off a two-match road trip when they take on Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field at 2:00 PM ET (TV: MSG – Pre-Game Show starts at 1:30 PM). New York (3-4-2, 11 points) completed a span which saw it play three matches in eight days with a 4-1 win over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena last Saturday. The result moved the Red Bulls into a fourth-place tie in the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union, just three points behind conference leader Sporting Kansas City. Four different Red Bulls found the back of the net for hosts in the victory, adding to New York’s MLS-high 13 goals on the year. The Red Bulls travel across the border to face Toronto FC for the first of three meetings between the sides this season. Toronto FC (1-2-4, 7 pts.) is currently in a seventh place tie in the East with the Chicago Fire and nearly earned a win in its last match at home Saturday against the Houston Dynamo. Former New York midfielder Jeremy Hall put the Reds up 1-0 in the 58th minute, but a second half stoppage time equalizer from Warren Creavalle helped give Houston a point. Toronto FC is unbeaten at BMO Field in 2013, going 1-0-3, and has tied four straight games. The club's only win came on March 9 – a 2-1 triumph over Sporting Kansas City at home. Toronto FC has been boosted by the performance of Welsh striker Robert Earnshaw, who leads his team with five goals and is currently in a second place tie in the MLS Golden Boot race. On Wednesday evening, Toronto FC beat the Montreal Impact, 2-0, at BMO Field in its first Canadian Championship match. New York has enjoyed recent success versus its Canadian foe, going unbeaten in its last seven matches (5-0-2 in that span). Last year, the Red Bulls tied 1-1 at BMO Field on June 30 and won, 4-1, on Sept. 29 at Red Bull Arena on the back of a one-goal, three-assist performance from forward Thierry Henry. New York is 8-4-3 all-time against Toronto FC and 2-3-3 at BMO Field. RED BULLS ROLL PAST REVOLUTION, 4-1 Four different players scored for New York as the Red Bulls earned a 4-1 victory over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena Saturday night in front of 18,029 spectators. FULL HIGHLIGHTS LINK The game’s first eight minutes saw three goals. In the fourth minute, Jonny Steele crossed it to McCarty, who chested it down to Tim Cahill. Cahill poked it back to Dax McCarty and the Red Bulls midfielder hit a left-footed drive that beat goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth to give New York the lead. New England answered back in the sixth minute, as Lee Nguyen’s free kick was nodded into New York’s net inadvertently by Red Bulls defender Brandon Barklage. However, moments later, the Red Bulls were again ahead. From the right sideline, Barklage strung a through ball into the path of Fabian Espindola. Espindola drove towards goal, cut to his left foot and found the bottom left corner of the net. New England exerted pressure on New York for parts of the second half, but Thierry Henry iced the three points for the hosts with his third goal of the season in the 82nd minute. Steele dribbled down the left wing and slid it to an onside Henry, who went in alone and curled it past Shuttleworth and into the back of the net. The Red Bulls weren’t finished and Steele completed the scoring one

minute from full time, putting home an Eric Alexander pass from close range. RED BULLS, NEW ENGLAND SUPPORTERS HONOR VICTIMS AFFECTED BY BOSTON MARATHON TRAGEDY Leading up to the Red Bulls-Revolution match last Saturday, the club’s South Ward supporters - Empire Supporters Club, Garden State Ultras and Viking Army SC - marched into Red Bull Arena alongside the New England Revolution supporters honoring the victims who were affected by the events surrounding last Monday’s Boston Marathon. Video of the march and other pre-match events honoring the victims can be found by clicking this link. The club will donate its total net revenues from merchandise sales from Saturday’s match to The One Fund Boston (OneFundBoston.org). OFFENSE FINDS FORM IN VICTORY New York recorded four goals in its win over New England for the first time since Sept. 29, 2012 – a 4-1 victory over Toronto FC. So far, the Red Bulls are tied with FC Dallas in goals scored with 13. New York also has recorded a League-high 126 shots (Sporting Kansas City is second with 111) and is second in shots on goal with 38 (FC Dallas leads with 42). HENRY TALLIES THIRD OF YEAR New York forward Thierry Henry recorded his third goal of the season in New York’s 4-1 win over New England. Henry is in sole possession of fourth place in goals scored in club history with 34, putting him five goals behind third place Clint Mathis. The Frenchman has found the back of the net in two of the past three matches. His first tally – a 81st minute winner versus the Philadelphia Union on March 30 – won MLS Goal of the Week honors. Henry leads MLS in shots with 36 – six more than San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski. Entering his third full season in Major League Soccer, Henry continues to be one of the game’s top performers. In 2012, the World Cup, UEFA Champions League and European Championship winner was a finalist for the League’s Most Valuable Player and earned a spot both on the MLS All-Star Team and the Best XI for the second-straight time in his career after tallying 15 goals and 12 assists. FORMER TEAMMATES PETKE, NELSEN TO FACE OFF Saturday’s match between New York and Toronto FC will feature former teammates and current first year head coaches Mike Petke and Ryan Nelsen leading their respective clubs against each other. Petke and Nelsen, both former defenders, were part of the D.C. United 2003 and 2004 squads. In 2004, United won the MLS Cup. That year, Petke made 26 appearances while Nelsen featured in 17 matches. PEARCE REACHES CENTURY Red Bulls defender Heath Pearce played his 100th Major League Soccer regular season match in New York’s 4-1 win over New England last Saturday, starting and featuring for 90 minutes. This season, Pearce has played in eight games, starting in seven and has recorded two assists. He has 96 career starts. Pearce came to MLS and FC Dallas following stints with German side, Hansa Rostock (2007-09) and Danish club, Nordsjælland (2005-07). He was with FC Dallas during the 2009 and 2010 seasons before being traded to Chivas USA, where he spent two seasons. Pearce was acquired by New York on May 17, 2012 along with allocation money and future considerations in exchange for forward Juan Agudelo. Last year, the 28-year-old started in 28 games, notching two goals.

RED BULLS AT TORONTO FC – APRIL 27, 2013 – 2:00 PM ET

A NUMBER OF FIRSTS In their 4-1 win over New England, the Red Bulls recorded a number of firsts:

- Midfielder Jonny Steele recorded his first goal as a Red Bull, knocking home from close range an Eric Alexander cross. Alexander also tallied his first assist for New York on that play. Steele also recorded his second assist of the year on Thierry Henry’s 82nd minute goal. For more on Steele, click here.

- Forward Andre Akpan made his regular season debut for the Red Bulls, coming on for Fabian Espindola. Akpan notched the secondary assist on Steele’s goal. It was Akpan’s first career MLS assist. He was acquired from Colorado on March 28.

- Espindola found the back of the net in the eighth minute for the first time since the team’s first game of the season on March 3 in a 3-3 tie at Portland, where he scored twice.

HELPING OUT New York currently leads MLS with 17 assists as a team – five more than second place Houston and Philadelphia. Eleven players have recorded at least one assist this year and defender Brandon Barklage has a team-high three following his pass that led to Fabian Espindola’s eighth minute goal against New England. Barklage, who is currently in a six-way tie for first place in MLS in assists, is more than halfway to matching his career-high in the category of five set in 2012. INDIVIDUAL TICKETS FOR ALL RED BULLS HOME MATCHES ON SALE NOW Individual tickets for home matches for the rest of the 2013 Red Bulls MLS regular season campaign are on sale now by logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com/tickets. JUNINHO UNAVAILABLE FOR TORONTO CLASH The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended New York Red Bulls midfielder Juninho for one additional game and fined him an undisclosed amount for kicking the ball at Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen during a deadball situation in the 91st minute of their game on April 17. The Committee determined that Juninho’s actions constituted violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent. The referee issued Juninho a red card, which carries an automatic one-game suspension and fine. Thus, he will serve a total suspension of two games: Last Saturday’s game against New England and April 27 at Toronto FC. OBEKOP MAKES DEBUT Young Cameroonian midfielder Marius Obekop made his MLS debut on April 17 against Sporting Kansas City, replacing Tim Cahill in the 77th minute. Obekop, signed on March 18, was previously with Cameroon MTN Elite One side, Renaissance FC de Nhoumou, where he scored five goals in 18 games during the 2012 season and helped his team to the quarterfinals of the Cameroon Cup. A former member of the Arsenal de Yaounde youth organization, Obekop debuted for the Cameroon Under-20 team, appearing for his nation twice during the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers. Obekop also featured with the Cameroon Under-17 squad starting in 2010. OLAVE STRIKES AGAIN Red Bulls defender Jamison Olave has recorded three goals to move into a tie as New York’s leading scorer. Olave tied his MLS career season high (also reached in 2009 and 2010) April 13 at D.C. United when he deflected home a Brandon Barklage header to make the score 2-0. Olave, the 2010 MLS Defender of the Year, was acquired by New York on Dec. 3, 2012 along with Fabian Espindola from Real Salt Lake in exchange for allocation money.

In addition, this was the second-straight time that Barklage earned an assist on Olave’s goal. In a similar play in New York’s 3-1 loss to Chicago on April 7, Barklage flicked a ball back into the six yard box and Olave fired it into the back of the net. RED BULLS TALLY FIRST ROAD WIN IN STOUT PERFORMANCE The Red Bulls earned their first victory on the road in 2013 with their win over D.C. United on April 13. The result improved New York’s road record to 1-3-1 on the year. In addition, it was the first time New York had earned a shutout away from Red Bull Arena and the second clean sheet of the year for the defense and goalkeeper Luis Robles. Last year, New York was 5-7-5 on the road. DAX ATTACK Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty tallied his first goal of the season in New York’s 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union March 30. It was McCarty’s first goal since Sept. 15, 2012, when he scored against the Columbus Crew in a 3-1 victory. Last year, McCarty started and played in a career-high 33 games, notching three goals and three assists. Also, Jonny Steele earned his first assist as a Red Bull on the goal. CAHILL RETURNS FROM INTERNATIONAL DUTY, CAPTAINS RED BULLS Midfielder Tim Cahill returned from international duty after an intercontinental trip and captained the Red Bulls, helping New York to a 2-1 win over Philadelphia March 30. Cahill started and logged 59 minutes before being substituted for Thierry Henry. Cahill was called up for Australia’s qualifier against Oman on March 26 in Sydney, Australia and scored his 27th goal in his 61st appearance for his national team in a come-from-behind 2-2 tie against Oman. Cahill nodded home Luke Wilkshire’s corner kick in the 52nd minute to make the score 2-1 before the Socceroos earned a point following Brett Holman’s equalizer. The Australian has started in four matches for New York this season. After joining the Red Bulls during the 2012 season, Cahill started in 12 regular season matches and two postseason games, notching a goal and three assists. Australia is currently in a tie for third place in Group B in Asian World Cup Qualifying with 6 points with Oman, trailing second-place Jordan by one point. Australia has a game in hand on Jordan and Oman. Defender Roy Miller also returned after tallying his 37th cap for Costa Rica in a 1-0 loss to the United States on March 22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. A member of the Red Bulls since 2010, Miller has started in two regular season matches this year. He has amassed 81 appearances and 11 assists in Major League Soccer for New York. He was on the bench for the Philadelphia match but did not play. Both players were not available for New York’s 1-0 loss to Montreal March 23 due to international duty. RED BULLS ACQUIRE AKPAN The New York Red Bulls announced March 28 that they acquired forward Andre Akpan from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a conditional 2015 MLS Draft pick. “Andre is strong, physical forward with MLS experience and will provide another attacking option for our coaching staff,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “We are pleased to sign him and look forward to his contributions in the coming season.” Akpan, 25, has been with the Rapids since being selected by Colorado in the second round (22nd overall) in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of Harvard University. Part of the Rapids squad that won MLS Cup in 2010, Akpan finished last season with a career-high three goals and 15

appearances. Akpan has featured in one match for the Rapids this season as a substitute on March 2 at FC Dallas and has amassed 29 appearances and four goals during his MLS career. The Grand Prairie, TX native was a member of the U.S. Under-20 World Cup squad in Canada. At Harvard, he was the school’s all-time leading scorer and the 2009 Ivy League Player of the Year. NEW YORK WAIVES MARTINEZ The New York Red Bulls announced March 29 that they have waived forward Josue Martinez. Martinez was acquired along with allocation money from the Philadelphia Union on Dec. 6, 2012 in exchange for forward Sebastien Le Toux. He played in one regular season match for New York, coming on as a substitute on March 23 at Montreal. LUYINDULA MAKES RED BULLS DEBUT Following his official signing on March 19, forward Peguy Luyindula made his MLS debut for the Red Bulls March 23 at Montreal, earning a place in the starting lineup and playing 79 minutes before being substituted for Josue Martinez. Despite not finding the back of the net, Luyindula created chances for the Red Bulls, shooting over the bar in the first half off a Heath Pearce feed and then forcing Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins to make a big save in the 70th minute. Luyindula most recently played with renowned French side, Paris Saint-Germain, where he began his tenure in 2007. During his time at PSG, Luyindula played in 179 games in all competitions, scoring 37 goals. Prior to joining PSG, Luyindula was with French club, Marseille, from 2004-05 before heading on loan to Auxerre (2005-05) and Spanish side, Levante at the start of the 2006 campaign. The 32-year-old started his career at Niort in 1997 before moving to Strasbourg for three-plus years. Luyindula was able to compete in the UEFA Champions League at Lyon from 2001-2004, scoring 46 goals in 126 appearances in all competitions, while helping his team win two league championships. Luyindula has earned six caps for the French National Team, scoring one goal in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina. RED BULLS SIGN TWO-TIME MLS CUP WINNER HARTMAN The New York Red Bulls announced March 22 that they signed two-time MLS Cup winning goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. In addition to being a part of the senior roster, Hartman will serve as a Goalkeeping Development Manager, working with the club’s young goalkeepers, including academy players. Hartman is one of the most decorated players in Major League Soccer history. The only player in League history to play and start over 400 regular season matches in MLS, Hartman joins the Red Bulls following three years at FC Dallas. Last year, Hartman recorded 30 starts and earned six shutouts, adding to his all-time shutout record which currently stands at 112. During his time in Frisco, Hartman compiled 83 starts and helped FC Dallas reach the MLS Cup Final in 2010. The 38-year-old started his career with the LA Galaxy in 1997 after being drafted in the 1997 College Draft from UCLA and went onto win MLS Cups with his side in 2002 and 2005. During this time, Hartman and the Galaxy also captured two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups in 2001 and 2005 and a pair of MLS Supporters’ Shield titles in 1998 and 2002. Following a 1999 campaign which saw him make 32 starts, earning a 20-12 record and 11 shutouts, Hartman won the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award and was a part of the MLS Best XI. The five-time MLS All-Star and five-time finalist for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award also was a member of Kansas City from 2007-09, where he started every minute of each of the 90 regular season matches during his tenure.

Overall, the 13-time MLS Cup Playoffs participant has amassed 416 regular season appearances, 37,260 minutes played and a career 180-143-89 record. Though these matches, Hartman has posted a 1.21 goals against average and set the record for lowest single season GAA in 2010 with FC Dallas, recording a 0.62 mark. Hartman has earned five caps for the U.S National Team. TRIGGER HAPPY The New York Red Bulls registered 24 shots in their match against D.C. United on March 16. It was the first time since April 6, 2002 that New York has recorded that many shots (New York had 27 in a 2-1 win over Columbus). CLEANING UP Goalkeeper Luis Robles made two saves, including a block on a Chris Pontius drive, while the Red Bulls defense held firm for most of the team’s 0-0 tie against D.C. United March 16. It was New York’s first clean sheet of the season and Robles’ third of his MLS career. Last year, New York posted eight shutouts. PETKE MAKES DEBUT Mike Petke officially made his head coaching debut in New York’s 3-3 tie with the Portland Timbers. The 13th individual to earn the New York top position, Petke faced off on Sunday against another first-time MLS head coach – former University of Akron head coach Caleb Porter. Petke, who is one of the club’s most popular all-time players and its leader in games played, was previously serving New York as head coach on an interim basis before being the named permanently to the position on Jan. 24. Petke, 37, finished his second season as an assistant coach on New York’s staff after an illustrious playing career. United before the 2003 season and won his only MLS Cup in 2004 with United. He was then traded to Colorado during their 2005 campaign, helping the Rapids to reach the Western Conference Finals. The Red Bulls signed Petke again at the end of 2008 and he played 35 more matches for the team until retiring following the 2010 season. He was named the club’s 2009 Defender of the Year and helped New York to its second Eastern Conference regular season title in his final season. Petke finished his career with 307 appearances in league play (351 in all competitions), in which he scored 13 goals and added four assists. He is one of 16 MLS players who has appeared in 300 or more career regular season matches.
