ood evening and welcome to Allianz Stadium for another

big game, this time against Perth Glory FC.

We’ve nine matches to go in the Hyundai A-League and there is still everything to play for. A lot is going to happen between now and the end of the season but we have been playing good football of late, the second half last Friday in Adelaide was a case in point, and I’m confident we are going to be there in the final analysis.

DRAINAGE Pty Ltd

Tonight’s match is the first of two home games in a week and we will need everyone’s backing in order to make the most of these opportunities. Perth are just outside the top six and will be looking at tonight’s game as a chance to put themselves back in contention so we will need to make sure we are switched on and focussed.

It is a very competitive league this year with results not always going the way we expect. That is why we all need to stick together for the final few home games and we’ll use the support you give us to spur us on.

It’s often called the business end of the season and we’ve put ourselves in a great position to challenge for the top spots. We have a large squad which is what we planned at the start of the campaign, taking AFC Champions League into account, and hopefully we can put a run

together which will make the next few weeks last long in

the memory.

BRANDONO'NEILLRecalls Tough Allianz Trips

s Brandon O’Neill gets set to welcome his former club to his

new home, the young midfielder recalls the tough encounters at Allianz Stadium from his time with the Glory.

Playing a handful of Foxtel National Youth League matches, and one Hyundai A-League clash, against the Sky Blues at his new home ground, O’Neill said Sydney was always a tough place to travel to and is grateful for the move and not missing the extensive travel from Western Australia.

“It’ll be another weird experience playing against good footballing friends that I spent a lot of time with,” O’Neill said.

“I played at Allianz Stadium a couple of times in the Youth League and A-League and I always found it hard coming to Sydney.

“It was a really, really hard game because Sydney were always a very tough opponent for Glory. I’ve always got memories of coming to Sydney and always expecting a tough game, especially at Allianz.

“It’s one of the positives of moving, not having to fly 4 or 5 hours every second week for a football match,” he continued.

“Being with Sydney now everywhere you go you’re only travelling an hour, an hour and a

half, so it definitely plays in your advantage a bit more.

“It’s good, I don’t have to wake up at half past five to pack my bags anymore, it’s much easier now.”

It’s been a standout year for O’Neill, making nearly the same amount of appearances for the Sky Blues as he did in four years with Perth, as he said it certainly wasn’t the first season he was expecting when he joined in May 2015.

“I thought coming here I wasn’t experienced in the A-League, I didn’t have many games under my belt,” O’Neill said.

“I had about 19-20 appearances for Glory all up in my four seasons there and I’ve already made 15-16 here at Sydney so coming here I didn’t expect to play as many games straight away.

A

“I thought I’d have to bide my time, but just the way football happens, if you have a coach that believes in you, Arnie thought it was right for me to play the first game and from there I’ve just tried to grasp every chance I’ve got.

“It’s been a really good season for me, probably my best to date. I’ve loved every minute of it, obviously to be involved as I have been, to be playing and back enjoying my football.

“The job isn’t done now though, we need to push on, I think top two needs to be our minimum goal and to progress through the ACL so there’s exciting times ahead.”

Putting in another great defensive display, the Sky Blues balanced that with a well-rounded attack in their 2-2 draw with Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Friday.

Sydney FC dominated the attacking statistics, registering 11 shots in total compared to Adelaide’s six, with six of the Sky Blues shots on target and one blocked.

The Sky Blues were only called to make seven clearances, with their attacking danger evident as Adelaide were forced to clear 22 times over the 90 minutes.

Rhyan Grant was particularly adept in defence as his ball recovery and interceptions set the Sky Blues on the attack numerous times.

Grant made a total of eight recoveries, three coming in the attacking third of the field, while the number 23 also made four interceptions in the Sky Blues defensive third to halt any Adelaide United advances.

Sydney FC’s Academy sides continued their build up to the start of the Playstation 4 NPL Men’s 2 season with a friendly clash against Hakoah Sydney City East FC on Sunday at Valentine Sports Park.

Every age group from under 13’s to first grade were in action on a largely successful day for the young Sky Blues with five wins, one draw and one loss coming out of the contests.

Sydney FC under 13’s Head Coach Alex Epakis spoke highly of the matches.

“Overall the day was successful, not only in terms of results but also in building the Sydney FC style of

play,” he said.

“The personal highlight for me was the high calibre of play in the under 13’s match which Sydney

FC won 3-0.

Academy Director Kelly Cross added "Other than in U13's, Sydney FC Academy players
