7.3 Give two best Practices of the institution (please see the format in the NAAC Self-Study

Manuals)

TITLE OF BEST PRACTICE I:

SENSITIZING STUDENTS TOWARDS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

FOCUS ON: Social Responsibility

Objective of the practice: The goal of this mission is to make our students morally

upright and socially responsible citizens. Following are the objectives:

To make them sensitive towards society.

To foster an environment that is conducive for the pursuit of betterment of

society.

To prepare and train students in a manner which converts them into a force,

which is against evil practices of the society.

The context: The institution believes that no education is complete if it does not

focus on making students socially responsible. They are encouraged to contribute

generously towards society by sharing with the deprived ones, by educating their

maids and their children, by keeping environment clean, by planting trees , by not

littering and by maintaining habits of cleanliness.

The Practice: It focuses on transforming our students into civilized citizens by

generating awareness among them about various problems imbued in our social

structure. It engages students in meaningful practices that prepare them to fulfill the

obligations as responsible global citizens.

Evidence of success:

As per objectives of NSS and NCC units, activities under the banner of

spreading happiness and awareness were conducted. The Main objective of

these activities was to spread happiness among the old people and orphan

children at “Heavenly Home”. Students were asked to donate their toys and

other articles for the old and kids. The money collected as donation from the

students was spent on the purchase of sweets, fruits and other articles of their

use.

Another effort was made to make people aware about important issues like

Dowry System, Superstitions and Brain-Drain, Drug Abuse, Female

Foeticide. Student prepared nukkadh natak (street play) which was

performed at different villages like Barmalipur ,Kott- Sekhon and Kott-

Panech.

Page 35: MATA GANGA KHALSA COLLEGE FOR GIRLS MANJI SAHIB, KOTTAN ... 2015-16.pdf · MATA GANGA KHALSA COLLEGE FOR GIRLS MANJI SAHIB, KOTTAN (LUDHIANA) Under the Management of SGPC, Sri Amritsar

34 MATA GANGA KHALSA COLLEGE FOR GIRLS , MANJI SAHIB, KOTTAN, LDH. AQAR [2015-16]

TITLE OF BEST PRACTICE II:

GURUPURAB CELEBRATION

FOCUS ON: Religious And Ethical Values For Value Education.

Objective of the practice: To teach the students to follow the footprints and to keep up

the legacy of the great Sikh Gurus. “Kirat Karo, Naam Japo, Vand Shako” as

prophesized by Guru Nanak Dev Ji preaches that we should work hard and share with

others along with remembering God and the shabad “ deh shiva bar mohe ehe, shubh

karman te kabhu na taron” written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji teaches the students to

overcome their fear and limitations and to do good deeds.

The context: Our college prides itself on the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual

development of the students. We strive to impart knowledge that encompasses the

prescribed syllabi of the institution as well as that of the world that lies beyond the

classroom. Every year we celebrate the birthday of “SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI” in

November and “ SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI “ in the month of January. This is to

teach the students high ideals and great values of Sikhism and moreover to rise above

the narrow barriers of caste, creed and color. It fervently infuses the minds with spirit

of universal brotherhood and faith in one creator, “ek pitah ekas ke hum barik”( we are

sons of one God). In this age, when decadence of moral values is rampant in all walks

of life, it strives to cultivate in the hearts of young students real ethical values-

Absolute Truth, Absolute Beauty and Absolute Goodness.

The Practice: The college celebrates Gurupurabs every year in the month of

November and January Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh Ji‟s birthdays . Students

are informed about this in the Monday morning assembly and duties are ascribed to the

teachers for the main events. Invitation cards are distributed to the different schools and

colleges in the district. On the day of celebration, langar (community lunch) is

organized. Shabad from Guru Granth Sahib are recited by the Students and Ragis

(Musicians who sings Gurubani in prescribed ragas ). Langar preparations and all other

activities are managed with the help of students, teachers, members from non teaching

staff and staff of Gurudwara Manji Sahib, Kottan.

Funds required: To celebrate the event at high level, college requires huge amount of

funds which is partially sponsored by the management and balance amount is

contributed by the students ,teachers and supporting staff.

Impact: Derived from our mission statement of this college, we endeavour to shape

well rounded personalities that will contribute positively to society. These events help

us to fulfill our mission.
