LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING - Greg A READING FROM THE BOOK OF WISDOM (3: 1-6, 9)The souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God, no torment shall ever touch them. In the eyes of the unwise, they did appear to die, their going looked like a disaster, their leaving us, like annihilation, but they are in peace. If they experienced punishment as men see it, their hope was rich with immortality; slight was their affliction, great will their blessing be. God has put them to the test and proved them worthy to be with him; he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a holocaust. They who trust in him will understand the truth, those who are faithful will live with him in love; for grace and mercy await those he has chosen. The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSE - Kerry

Reader: The Lord is kind and merciful

All: The Lord is kind and merciful

Reader: The Lord is compassion and love, Slow to anger and rich in mercy. He does not treat us according to our sinsNor repay us according to our faults. All: The Lord is kind and merciful

Reader: As a father has compassion on his childrenThe Lord has pity on those who fear Him;For He knows of what we are made,He remembers that we are dust.

All: The Lord is kind and merciful

Reader: As for a man, his days are like grass; He flowers like the flower of the field; The wind blows and he is goneAnd his place never sees him again.

All: The Lord is kind and merciful

Reader: But the love of the Lord is everlasting upon those who hold Him in fear; his justice reaches out to children's children when they keep His covenant in truth. All: The Lord is kind and merciful
