Overall impact assessment
• How data exchange improved the sustainability of operations & the cooperation of the ecosystem?
• AEOLIX (added value) services specialization ?
• Priority Domains of implementation?
• Focus of future improvement ?
• What Value proposition to future users ?
Overall Impact Assessment
Improve the standardization (reduce paperwork/complexity), dynamic reconfiguration
of shipments, number of trips with consolidated cargo
End-to-end visibility and status alerts reduce cancellation and support decision making
Combine orders into shipments with increased load factor
Improve the modal shift Increase the number of trips with consolidated cargo
Reduce the CO2 emissions
The order fulfillment cycle time has the least impact resulted from consolidated shipments
Service Quality
Efficiency & Operations
Planning & Performance
Environment
Responsiveness
Improve administration work time and the workers’ quality of life Society
Adjust production and distribution schedule- Better resource utilization reduce fees & waiting times, freight forwarders can find

CO2 emissions
Due to the increase in load factor the CO2 increased accordingly
In fact two main drivers induce the freight transport: tonnes per € of output and the average distance per tonne

Increase of load factor
Target Actual
The companies participated in the pilot had mostly full shipments and there was only a minor increase in load
factor due to small margin for consolidation
Before AEOLIX the trucks were less than half loaded and non consolidated. AEOLIX developed synergies for
cargo consolidation
Socio-economic impact
The more the load factor and shipment
consolidation is increased the highest the
increase in fuel consumption

FUEL CONSUMPTION
ACTUAL TARGET
AEOLIX future use Fuel consumption is influenced by the load rate. The load rate for loaded trips is influenced by the volume and characteristics of the demand (mainly, shipments size, type of commodity and just-in time practices), while the rate of empty running is influenced by the imbalance of physical trades. These two rates could be upgraded by improving the information and effectiveness in grouping orders & shipments in consolidated loads and in reducing freight market barriers through the use of AEOLIX
Socio-economic impact
-30% -25% -20% -15% -10% -5% 0%
LL 5_Inland Waterway (Danube River)
Empty runs
Target Actual
AEOLIX had only one LL which owns the feeder distribution process. The rest of the LLs either they outsourced or they own only specific leg of the supply chain thus they are not interested in measuring the empty runs (example: they have exports
and not imports) AEOLIX future use
As more companies are added to the platform, even greater efficiencies will be delivered. Decreasing the empty runs resulting in reducing the shipment cost. Collaboration can result in the reduction of the collective empty runs. This can be achieved by brokering freight to each other and, in a way, exchanging customers. In addition to improving margins and asset utilization, the collaboration can reduce both company’s overall km driven, leaving a smaller carbon footprint.
Since waiting time in terminal decreased then the efficiency of the operations increased accordingly Truck and container throughput improved dramatically in some Living Labs (LL8, LL6)

Target Actual
Lead time reduction through shipment transparency ETA service help to better identify, assess and aggregate resources
Reduction in waiting time improves the trucks turnaround time and supply chain efficiency

Living Labs Summary
As more companies are added to
the platform, even greater
efficiencies will be delivered due
to proliferation of synergies and
strategic partnerships
• Difficult to measure the total CO2 emissions
when shipments are transshipped or when
supply chain ownership is changed
• Suppliers engagement is required to
achieve CO2 emission/empty runs targets
across the whole value chain
LLs clustered based on their
financial benefits. high level of
integration is linked with
higher benefits.
Improve the standardization
(reduce paperwork/complexity)
dynamic reconfiguration of
shipments
Different priorities among LLs
(better use of the capacities/
financial benefits/ performance
and responsiveness )
Clear strategy is important (either
agile or responsive or cost
focused or innovative) to set the
appropriate objective and ultimately the
KPIs and to right basis for collaboration
and partnership

Comments
Visibility is key for AEOLIX success with integrated supply chain resilience
Solution is deemed not very easy to use or integrate
Respondents feel security of data sharing is critical
Stakeholders abilities to trace information as it moves through actors is critical
Reliable 'always on'
Sharing agreements needed, would give greater collaboration
opportunities with data
Lack of knowledge of this metric created nervousness with respondents,
especially those in the global marketplace
Integration was seen as critical, and was linked to the issues around ease
of use
Lack of feasibility was noted as a critical issue with supply chain
software’s
Secure and certified sharing of information would be needed for seamless
data sharing
Evaluation of market penetration (3/3)
• AEOLIX needs to be sure to address all the aspects outlined as success factors, in order to be aligned to market needs and ensure good profitability can be achieved by all supply chain actors in line with their strategy for collaboration .
• Having a platform that connects to other systems such as AEOLIX, means mitigation of risk and greater profitability of organisations can be achieved through proffering connected and collaborative visibility.
• AEOLIX must leverage its position as a neutral certified information exchange, building trust and overcoming the major issues of culture that reside within supply chains. Capacity building for industry on digital connectivity could help.
• Ease of use and integration aligned to understanding the marketplace of existent ICT logistics systems is a must for the AEOLIX. Attention is to be paid to the ability for AEOLIX to engage with leading software without ‘middle ware’ which leave supply chains open to vulnerabilities [security].

Pan European Logistics (PanEL) platforms of the future
• Pan European Logistics platform of the future consist of communication infrastructures enabling
the cooperation of a community through data exchange and allowing access to services and to
plug in applications in order to offer added value to the community members through data
sharing.
• Interoperability of PanEL platforms need to be achieved at business, technical & legal level
• Based on two projects initiatives (AEOLIX , SELLIS) common approach in PanEL platforms
organization is recognized:
– Community building level
– Connectivity-communication level
– Service Level
– Application Level
