A rts Café, Vernissage, Salon de Jazz, Shakespearience. These fancy terms all have one thing in common: they’re happening at Marianopolis ArtsFest 2013. Marianopolis College’s annual ArtsFest brings together students and faculty to offer an array of artistic projects, delivering old and new styles in their interactive museum-like set- ting. Some talents of our classmates and colleagues include classic paint- ing on canvas with a twist, depicting color spectrums of our brains when we listen to music, and beautiful digital art paintings, personifying the Periodic Table of Elements. First in this year’s line up of cultur- al and artistic activities is the Arts Café, organized by Steven Custodio, at which students will present origi- nal prose and poetry, and perform live music. Arts Café will take place Tuesday April 16th and Thursday April 18th in the Student Lounge during Activity Period. Come and support your friends and classmates! The main focus of this year’s arts fest is the annual Vernissage, Tuesday, April 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 where friends and family alike take the evening to appreciate the hard work put in to all the beautiful proj- ects. CALL and Arts & Science stu- dents will be present to answer any questions you have. Can’t find a par- ticular work of art? Pick up a map in the rotunda! Admission is free and food and drinks will be provided at 6! Next, CALL’s very own Gabrielle Buccaya is proud to present Le Salon de Jazz. Take a moment on Thursday, April 18th at 5:00 to come by the Student Lounge for live music and intellectual discussions about students’ art. This event will emulate an 18th Century Parisian Salon and participants will also be encouraged to discuss with the professors of the Living Books Society. Jazz music will be performed by Marianopolis stu- dents and free food, courtesy of Pekarna, will be served. Admission is free but guests are invited to donate to Dans La Rue, a Montreal-based Non-Profit organization. Finally, The Shakespearience, Marianopolis College’s Shakespea- rean theatre troupe, will be closing ArtsFest 2013 with a rousing per- formance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This year’s production will take place April 19th at 7:00 in the Amphitheatre. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $7.00 for adults. Travel back to ancient Greece with a cast of first and second years and come and support your friends! Reserve your tickets today at marianopolisshake- [email protected]. So there you have it! This year’s ArtsFest is sure to be jam-packed with something for everyone. Art projects will be showcased all week long. Break out of your paper-writing craze for a bit and check out all the wonderful projects your fellow stu- dents have created! v Gabrielle Samek Executive Editor Marianopolis College, Westmount Established in 1974 - Volume 5 Issue 8 April 16 th , 2013 Letter from The Executives News Features ArtsFest Feature Arts and Entertainment Opinion Mindgasms Index P. 2 P. 3 P. 4-7 P. 8-11 P. 12-14 P. 15 P. 16 The staff of The Papercut would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at TLT for all their help yesterday rescuing the Paper when the school was without power.
