01 Sitting BullA wood burning of a Hunkpapa Lakota holy man who led his people as a tribal chief during years of resistance to United States government policies. He was killed by Indian agency police on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation during an attempt to arrest him, at a time when authorities feared that he would join the Ghost Dance movement.

02 Red CloudA war leader and a chief of the Oglala Lakota. He led as a chief from 1868 to 1909. He led a successful cam-paign in 1866–1868 known as Red Cloud’s War over control of the Powder River Country in northeastern Wyoming and southern Montana. He died in 1909 at age 88 on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He is quoted as saying in his old age, “They made us many promises, more than I can remember. But they kept but one--They promised to take our land...and they took it.”

03 Plenty CoupsHe was the principal chief of the Mountain Crows (the Apsáalooke) of the Crow Nation and a visionary leader. He allied the Crow with the whites in a war against the Sioux and Cheyenne. One of his famous quotes is: “Education is your greatest weapon. With education you are the white man’s equal, without education you are his victim and so shall remain all of your lives. Study, learn, help one another always. Remember there is only poverty and misery in idleness and dreams - but in work there is self respect and independence.”

02 Cathederal of St. JosephThe Cathedral is a brick masonry building designed in the Romanesque Revival style by Patrick F. Meagher. He would later design the Buchanan County Courthouse. The rectory is a three–story brick structure. The facade features three-story, projecting box bay and side, two-story, projecting polygonal bays. The L-shaped porch is supported by Romanesque-style columns. The auditorium features Art Deco elements on its design from the 1950s. The convent is influenced by the Colonial Revival style. It features a hipped roof and an entrance portico with Doric columns and capitals

03 Francis Street MethodistThe present building, built by the Francis Street Church in 1906, is its second location on Francis Street. Designed by New York City architect, George Kramer, who worked for Jacob Snyder, the architect who pio-neered the Akron Plan, it incorporates Gothic revival elements around the Akron Plan. One source gives Kramer credit for perfecting the Akron Plan. During his 50 year career, he designed more than 2,200 churches and Sunday schools.

04 Christian Scientist ChurchFirst Church of Christ was designed by New York City architect, Fred R. Comstock, and is patterned after the “Mother Church” in Boston. Comstock designed several Christian Science churches, including the Second Church in Kansas City, which stood until 1955 at 31st and Troost. It was very similar to this building, which is based on the Beaux Arts style, wherein classic architectural elements, such as windows and bays, are “reorganized.” Construction began in 1899 and completed in 1906.

01 St Joseph MO. Architecture One of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in northwest Missouri, the Immacu-late Conception Church was designed by Edmund J. Eckel, who designed many of St. Joseph’s architectural jewels. It was erected in 1908 after the previous church building was destroyed by fire. Its stained glass windows were imported from Innsbruck, Austria, and are embedded 18 inches into the walls. They depict the life of Mary, Mother of Jesus, from her birth to her corona-tion as Queen of Heaven.

06 Shakespeare Chateau InnThe Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden. High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as “Millionaires’ Row.”

07 Buchanan Co. CourthouseThe Buchanan County Courthouse is a courthouse design from the late 1800’s period of architectural history and is listed on the National Register of His-toric Places. Built in 1873, by Arch- P. F. Meagher, and contractor John DeClue. It was rebuilt in 1885 after fire by Arch- R. K. Allen.

08 Missouri TheaterThe Missouri Theater opened June 25, 1927 with Rough House Rosie as the feature. Waylande Gregory designed and created all the sculptural work in the theater in 1926 and 1927. It was designed by the Boller Brothers.

05 St Joseph MO. Architecture In 1879, William and Eliza Wyeth hired architect E. J. Eckel to design a mansion resembling the castles they had seen on the Rhine River as they were traveling in Germany. The architecture firm E. J. Eckel, is responsible for 75 percent of the buildings in St. Joseph.

01 First Floor PlanTHe pictuere shows our first floor plan for the house being designed. The pink marks are actually work that has been highlighted as completed.

02 Second Floor PlanThe second floor plan shows the same highlight marks. This will be seen on all plans that are in the process of being revised.

03 Lower Level PlanAs seen on previous plans the pink highlighting. Also you will notice redlines that have been added to all the plans. These plans have come back from the engineer-ing company that Bickford & Company uses to add and check structural members added to the plans.

01 Computer Aided Drawings The two drawings are from a clients house that our company has designed for. Shown are the front elevation plan and to the right is the first floor plan. The computer software we use is Microstation 2000. The software is a little dated, but it still works well.

05 Foundation PlanThe foundation plan is marked up the same as pre-vious shown plans. My job as the Plan Reviewer is to make sure that the plans are correct to the clients expectations, the company standards, and to code for whichever city that the house is being built in.

06 Roof PlanAlso another part of my job is to double check the plans and look for mistakes. Such as looking for structure that didn’t get transposed correctly or misspelled words. I also look at the dimension to ensure they are the correct distance.

07 Working Front PlanWhat Bickford & Company call a working front is an elevation of the front with dimensions added and the foundation showing. We have another front elevation plan that we use as a cover sheet that don’t have any foundations or dimensions.

04 Computer Aided Drawings These two drawings are from the same house. To the left is the foundation plan and to the right is the site plan. Everything we need to set elevations for the foundation come from the site plans.
