Highlighted by a gleaming, genuine Australian pearl, there is no doubt that this stunning new coin will sell-out just as fast as its predecessors.

An enthralling tribute to the nation’s copious natural riches, and very exclusive with just 7,500 coins struck, the fifth coin of this hugely popular series features a see-through locket set into its 40.60mm diameter flan. The 40th World Money Fair!

The biggest, most important numismatic extravaganza on the planet, the 2011 World Money Fair was held in Berlin in January, and, as always, proved to be an outstanding success.

Once again bringing together all elements of the numismatic industry, the 40th Anniversary World Money Fair filled EIGHT exhibition halls, with every scrap of available space taken up by dealers, issuing authorities and mints. Indeed, an astonishing fifty-seven mints and national banks, representing 37 countries from around the world, were present! Known as the event that no collector ‘can afford to ignore’, the fair was extremely well patronised. One of a plethora of records set during the show, the 2011 World Money Fair attracted 15,000 people over the three days!

Taking Australian numismatics onto the world stage, Downies was, as usual, in attendance at the 2011 World Money Fair. Notwithstanding the cost and effort involved, we see our presence at such major international events as crucial, as it is only through being where the action is that we are able to provide our clients with access to the exclusive, exciting opportunities such as those presented here. With limited stock available, however, only instant action will guarantee you do not miss out on these exclusive Aussie Show Products.

Inspired by the overwhelming response to previous issues in its World Money Fair Mint Set Series, the Royal Australian Mint released an exclusive ‘Show’ Mint Set in Berlin in 2011. ONLY AVAILABLE AT DOWNIES – with no other dealer, or even the RAM, having ANY stock to be able to offer – this limited edition presentation represents a truly exclusive opportunity for our clients. Comprising six Brilliant Uncirculated coins from the 5c to the $2, with each coin carrying the traditional design for its denomination, this prestigious Australian collectable is distinguished by utterly unique World Money Fair presentation packaging. Instantly marking the set out as part of this remarkably exclusive limited edition, this desirable collection features a unique Berlin 2011 World Money Fair outer sleeve – completely different to the sleeve of the standard 2011 Mint Set!

A key acquisition for those collectors interested in the most exclusive issues Australian numismatics has to offer, with only 1,500 sets released, this official Aussie Show Product is clearly a must-have for anyone lucky enough to own any of its sought after predecessors – all of which are impossible to find and rising in value. Issued at A$25, the 2006 set would now set you back almost $200, whilst the 2007 and 2008 sets would cost around A$120 apiece – if you were lucky enough to find one. Knowing that many of our clients would be desperate to acquire this extremely exclusive Australian Mint Set, we did our best to obtain as many as possible whilst at the show. Although we are aware that our meagre stock will never be enough to meet the inevitable wave of demand, we are proud to be the ONLY numismatic outlet giving Australian collectors the chance to secure this super-exclusive Australian

legal tender release.

■ Tiny limited edition 1,500 – officially sold out at the RAM!

■ Exclusive opportunity – this set is ONLY available at Downies!

Berliners go bonkers for Berlin Bear!Outshining the glittering array of international issues launched at the 2011 Berlin World Money Fair, the Perth Mint-struck 2011 $1 WMF Koala Berlin Bear Privy 1oz Silver BU created chaos at the world’s number one numismatic festival. The first Silver Koala to carry a privy mark – and therefore of major interest to Australian collectors – this unique, exclusive coin was naturally targeted by the record-breaking crowds of German collectors

attending the 2011 Berlin World Money Fair. An emblem of the city for centuries, the bear has dominated Berlin’s Coat of Arms since 1920, and is one of Germany’s most distinctive, most internationally recognisable symbols. The first privy mark coin struck by the Perth Mint for several years, the 40.60mm 2011 $1 WMF Koala Berlin Bear Privy 1oz Silver BU was undoubtedly the star of the show at the 2011 World Money Fair. No official confirmation

is available, but rumour has it that 50,000 of these .999 fine silver 1oz Koala coins were struck – with 40,000 coins being sold over the three days of the fair! As shocked as anyone when we saw this surprise Australian legal tender release unveiled at the show, we acted immediately to claim as many coins as we could on behalf of our clients. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity! Limited stock available!

Tiny limited edition JUST 2,000!

An extremely exclusive, officially approved Aussie Show Product, this special edition from Australia’s Perth Mint was also unveiled at

the 2011 World Money Fair in Berlin – with an astonishingly low limited edition of just 2,000!

Distinguished by a distinctive, individually numbered, beautifully illustrated World Money Fair presentation pack, this official issue comprises the latest issues in two of Australia’s most internationally renowned coin series – the 2011 $1 Silver Koala BU and the 2011 $1 Silver Kookaburra BU. Graced with unique, one-year-only designs, the release of this dynamic duo caused a major stir amongst the record-breaking crowds attending the World Money Fair, with a majority of the limited edition snapped up during the three days of the show. As we were in attendance at this key international numismatic

festival, we were in a position to secure a small number of these Australian legal tender sets from the tiny limited edition of 2,000. With limited stock available, however, an early order is a must.

Confirming the tiny limited edition of 2,000, each .999 fine silver 1oz pair is set in an individually numbered pack – bearing the official World Money Fair logo!

Tremendous treasure trove of twenties! The last issue of the short-lived 1966-74 ‘Commonwealth of Australia’ banner series – particularly scarce and rising in value in premium grade.

The first to carry the new ‘Australia’ banner – changed in 1974 by the ALP Whitlam Government to reflect Australia’s growing independence from Great Britain.

The initial Knight/Wheeler $20 note type is distinguished by the central positioning of the metallic thread – a security device employed to thwart counterfeiters.

Stunning ‘Hoard Prices’! SAVE A$800! An irresistible opportunity for Downies clients, our acquisition of a massive cache of scarce, high-grade decimal banknotes means we now have the chance to offer every 1970s $20 note type in superb about Uncirculated to Uncirculated condition – at sensational ‘Hoard Prices’!

Seldom set aside… The $20, introduced at the inception of decimal currency in February 1966, was Australia’s highest denomination banknote until the launch of the $50 note in the mid 1970s. Representing a great deal of purchasing power during this decade, few people were prepared to blithely pop away even a few examples of the $20 for posterity – let alone hide away a huge hoard of these high denomination notes.

An extraordinary accumulation…Knowing that high denomination notes carry the greatest long-term potential, especially in the upper echelons of quality, one particularly astute collector did indeed create a genuine treasure trove of $20 notes during the 1970s. Accumulated over a ten year period, this collector managed to stash away the $20 in extraordinary quantity, with the hoard ultimately comprising several hundred notes!

Quantity – and quality! This amazing hoard was not only defined by its immense size – it was also notable for the outstanding condition of the notes. A man with an eye for quality, our passionate collector clearly targeted only the best available examples – notes that had seen little or no circulation. Indeed, a majority of the hoard was obviously set aside before reaching the public, with most notes in strictly Uncirculated condition.

Tremendous treasure trove of twenties! With the positioning of the thread in the ‘natural fold’ of the note causing rapid deterioration, it was moved to the side late in the Knight/Wheeler $20 print-run – a very scarce type.

The first $20 type issued during the Knight/Stone signature combination – distinguished by the original Gothic 18 typeface of the serial numbers.

The scarcer of the two Knight/Stone $20 issues, with the change to the bolder, more modern OCR-B serial number typeface taking place late in the print-run.

Remarkably, the LOWEST grade note found in this astonishing 70s stash was in about Uncirculated quality!

A valuable variety…From the revision of the banner of Australian notes from ‘Commonwealth of Australia’ to ‘Australia’, to changes in the position of the metallic security thread, to the alteration of the serial number typeface used in printing, Australia’s paper currency was in a major state of flux during the 1970s. As the hoard was assembled during this decade, it encompassed SIX different $20 types – representing a comprehensive appreciation of every major modification made to Australian banknotes during this vibrant period of change.

An irresistible opportunity…Whilst the six different 1970s $20 note types are available individually, the complete set in aUnc-Unc represents a fine acquisition for the serious Australian note collector – especially given the sensational hoard savings! We are in a position to slash the combined prices of the six individual notes by a massive A$800! Buy a complete set of Consecutive Pairs and save A$1,600!

The Silver Proof Dollar Series – from 1992 to 2011!An inspiring illustration of the skill and expertise of the Royal Australian Mint, and of its devotion to the minter’s craft, the 1992-2011 $1 Silver Proof Series stands like a beacon – showing the way for mints around the globe. Many imitate, but none can surpass the exquisite RAM craftsmanship inherent in every one of these stunning precious metal Proofs.

Part of a grand tradition of Australian Silver Proofs, beginning with the Melbourne Mint’s 1916 4-Coin Silver Proof/Specimen Set, each coin in the series is defined by razor-sharp, precisely frosted designs, contrasting against the finest of mirror fields. Housed within a timber case with Certificates of Authenticity, each of the twelve Patterns features the memorable draped, laureate effigy of King George III – designed by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler in the late 18th century

Following a surprise acquisition whilst attending

the Berlin World Money

Fair in January, we are delighted to be able to once again highlight the unique qualities of the 1808 George III Cu-Ni Pattern Replica Collection! A great opportunity to experience the artistry and history of 19th century coinage, this set comprises twelve Prooflike Pattern replicas – each measuring a crown-sized 40mm in diameter. Naturally including a Pattern for Australia and Britain, this unique collection also represents Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Ceylon, Bermuda, Gibraltar, the Bahamas and Sierra Leone. with the heritage of each state, all twelve Patterns feature the late 18th century obverse portrait of George III by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler. Most well known to Australians via the 1797 Cartwheel Penny, this famous portrait looks utterly magnificent struck to impeccable Prooflike quality. With demand driven by the magnificent quality, fine presentation, rich history and – at under A$9 per crown-sized Pattern – excellent value, our original offering of the 1808 George III Pattern Replicas was met with an overwhelming response. Never believing we would be able to offer this set again, our acquisition of just EIGHT collections from a British dealer at the Show in Berlin means you have one last chance to enjoy these historic George III Pattern replicas.

Less than half price!Defined by Prooflike quality, great variety and tremendous value-for-money, the 1808 George III NSW Pattern Replica Collection is also underpinned by extremely limited availability. A scintillating selection, this presentation includes SIX 40mm

Prooflike Patterns struck in SIX different metals – Golden Alloy, copper, aluminium, pewter, cupro-nickel and Antiqued bronzed copper! Symbolic of Britain’s claim to Australia, each Pattern features the crowned Royal cypher of George III upon a map of New South Wales,

united with the portrait of the King found on the coin that triggered the famous Currency Proclamation of 1800 – the 1797 Cartwheel Penny. As we took all the remaining stock of this set off the hands of the dealer we met in Berlin, we were able to drive a hard bargain. Delighted

to pass the savings on to our clients, this historic set can be yours at less than half the normal price!

We will remember them…As especially appropriate acquisition as we approach Anzac Day, these genuine, official World War I Service Medals unlock the door to the true starting point of Australia’s rich military heritage.Offering the collector a unique opportunity to establish an unusually personal connection with the soldiers of WWI, the trio of authentic, official British Empire decorations comprises the 1914-18 War Medal, the 1914-19 Victory Medal and the 1914-15 Star

– all complete with the appropriate ribbon. The last mentioned is closely linked to the Anzac Legend, as the 1914-15 Star was only awarded to those serving before 31 December 1915. It was thus bestowed upon all surviving Gallipoli veterans, with the medal becoming so identifiable with Australia’s Baptism of Fire in the Dardanelles that it was commonly referred to as the ‘Gallipoli Star’. A fine way to honour the sacrifice of those who served in the ‘war to end all wars’, these

beautifully designed British Empire military medals represent outstanding value for such an authentic, fascinating slice of Australian history.

Emblem of Anzac

Authentic WWI Iron Cross…

A central part of Australia’s rich military heritage, instantly associated with the Spirit of Anzac, the Rising Sun Badge was created for Australian troops during the 1899-1902 Boer War – Australia’s first overseas military commitment as a nation. Therefore

one of our first national symbols, proudly worn by Australian soldiers for over a century, this iconic insignia is superbly recreated as a 27mm Collar Badge. Faithful to the original, this detailed replica

is well within your reach at just A$14.95. One of the world’s most celebrated military

decorations, the Iron Cross was created by Frederick III in March 1813 to reward acts of heroism or leadership during the Napoleonic Wars. The outbreak of WWI in 1914 saw Wilhelm II re-institute the Iron Cross as Germany’s major military award, again presented for acts of bravery.

Decorated with ‘W’, for Kaiser Wilhelm II, and featuring the original 1813 Iron Cross design on the obverse, the Iron Cross is a truly memorable decoration. Forming the cornerstone of many militaria collections, and always in demand, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to own a genuine example of this prestigious military award. With only a few WWI Iron Cross

medals available – graded Fine – you must act now.

Strictly limited edition Ashes PNC!The perfect way to honour one of the greatest rivalries in international sport – and a must-have for those keen to maintain a complete collection – the 2010 20c Ashes PNC is one of the very few PNC issues to have a pre-determined limited edition. Crucially, each of the few previous limited edition PNCs have sold out – and soared in value. The 2005 World

Heritage PNC (A$39.60 to A$150, edition 30,000) and the 2007 Ashes PNC (A$19.95 to A$195, edition 8,000) illustrate the point, with the instant sell-out of the ATO 20c PNC (edition 15,000) providing a very recent example of interest in this type of issue. With the 2010 20c Ashes PNC underpinned by a much stronger theme, a sell-out of the limited edition of 20,000 is inevitable.

In large part, the natural demand is due to the inclusion of the unique RAM 20c type. Distinguished by a brilliant cricketing motif, with the coin created in the style of a ball, this unique type will not be issued for circulation. It is, therefore, vital to anyone seeking to maintain a complete collection, with this PNC representing one of few ways you can obtain this stunning Australian legal tender 20c commemorative.

With a sell-out at Australia Post surely close at hand, you must not miss this limited window of opportunity to guarantee supply of this inspired Ashes tribute.

was issued from 1991 to 1993, during the Fraser/Cole signature combination.Notwithstanding the inflation that sparked its creation, the $100 still represented a significant amount of purchasing power in the 1980s, and the denomination was naturally considered far too valuable for most people to casually set a few aside as a keepsake. This, combined with the fact that the $100 was issued in small numbers

relative to lower denominations, means that all Australian paper $100 notes are scarce – especially in strictly Uncirculated quality, as presented here. $100 was issued for less than a decade, and only encompassed four signature combinations. Beginning with the one-year-only 1984 Johnston/Stone $100, the series also included the 1985 Johnston/Fraser $100 and the 1990 Fraser/Higgins $100 – issued for just one year due to the untimely demise of the Secretary to the Treasury, Christopher Higgins. Saving the best ’til last!

The concluding chapter of one of the Perth Mint’s most popular recent collector programs, the 2011 $1 Battle of Midway 1oz Silver Proof has just been launched! Arguably the best of the Famous Naval Battles of History Series, this outstanding full-colour coin is sure to be the most sought after – in large part due to its naturally strong appeal to American audiences.

One of the USA’s most famous victories in World War II, this key battle saw US forces thwart the Japanese Imperial Army’s attempt to take the US base on the Midway Atoll in mid-1942. Thanks to US intelligence, Admiral Nimitz knew of Japan’s plan and, catching the Japanese strike force by surprise, US dive-bombers sunk all four Japanese aircraft carriers. A spectacular tribute to this crucial US triumph, the 40.60mm flan of this sparkling new precious metal Proof bears a fully struck-up depiction of the USA’s USS Enterprise, with a full-colour portrayal of a US dive-bomber over the Japanese aircraft carrier, Akagi, forming an inspired backdrop.

As with the 2010 $1 Battle of Gettysburg Silver Proof – from the Famous Battles of History Series – there is no doubt that the 5,000-coin mintage of this new .999 Silver Proof will be blown away by interest from the US. Also a must-have for those keen on assembling the complete 5-coin set, we have secured only a small allocation of coins – each set in an official case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
