Capturing the Spirit of AustraliaToday, as much as in the 19th century, Australians look to the bush and the Outback for inspiration. It is this admiration for the spirit, courage and determination of the men and women of rural Australia that makes Banjo Paterson’s poem, The Man from Snowy River, still so relevant – and the reason why we have seen such powerful, widespread demand for the full-colour 2010 $1 Man from Snowy River 1oz Silver Proof.

Tapping into our national identity, just like poem itself, the 2010 $1 Man from Snowy River 1oz Silver Proof is a quintessentially Australian coin. A dramatic tribute to one of the nation’s greatest literary works, this coin is graced with a fine portrayal of the hero of The Man from Snowy River – charging off in pursuit of the valuable colt that lies at the heart of Banjo’s legendary bush ballad. Celebrating Australia’s Australia’s first medallic issue, the Sydney Cove Medallion is unquestionably one of modern Australia’s most precious, most important historical artefacts.

Produced from clay that was, somewhat remarkably, originally from Sydney Cove (now known as Sydney Harbour), the medallion was made in Warwickshire, England by legendary craftsman Josiah Wedgwood – known as ‘the Father of English Potters’. The clay had been collected by Captain Arthur Phillip, and dispatched back to Sir Joseph Banks in Britain, who then passed it on to Wedgwood. Recalling the art of Greece and Rome, and reflecting contemporary British interest in neo-classicism, the massive 50+mm diameter flan of the medallion depicted four allegorical figures upon the shores of a bay – Hope, Peace, Art and Labour. Produced to commemorate the landing of settlers in Sydney Cove in 1788, the medallion symbolised Britain’s vision for the ‘security and happiness’ of the infant colony.

Naturally enough, the Sydney Cove Medallion was produced in very limited numbers, and it was estimated in the latter part of the 20th century that perhaps 15 examples still existed. A priceless colonial artefact, connecting some of the most important names of early Australian history, this extraordinarily important medallion forms a fine subject for this stunning new Perth Mint presentation.

Taking us back to the earliest days of colonial Australia, this stunning new release from the Perth Mint forms an inspiring tribute to Australia’s very first medallic issue – the Sydney Cove Medallion. Comprising a superbly struck High Relief Silver Proof, united with a genuine Wedgwood plate, this exquisite, prestigious, historic presentation is sure to capture the imagination of collector and non-collector alike.

As detailed in the column at left, the Sydney Cove Medallion was created by the ‘Father of English Potters’, Josiah Wedgwood in 1789 – just a year after the First Fleet arrived on Australian shores. A breathtaking piece of 18th century art, the Sydney Cove Medallion is acknowledged as a crucial Australian artefact, underpinned by immense historical significance. A fitting tribute to this original piece of colonial history, the glorious neo-classical design of Wedgwood’s exceptional creation has been enshrined upon an Australian legal tender coin by the Perth Mint – struck to stunning High Relief quality!A massive 50% thicker than a normal 1oz silver coin, this dramatic .999 fine silver masterpiece is defined by the extraordinary depth and

detail in the design. Struck on concave surfaces to make certain that the optimum flow of pure silver is achieved by the strike of the die, the Perth Mint has gone to great lengths to capture the tremendous beauty and sharp detail of the Sydney Cove Medallion’s design. That the skilled craftsmen at the Mint have been successful in pursuit of that goal is evident from a single glance at this spellbinding $1 coin. An original and inspiring complement to this flawlessly struck High Relief precious metal Proof, emphasising the outstanding collector value of the presentation, each set also includes a genuine, original, limited edition Wedgwood fine bone china plate – bearing the same design as the original Sydney Cove Medallion! Also bearing the lines from Erasmus Darwin’s poem, The Visit of Hope to Sydney Cove (written by Darwin at the behest of Wedgwood to accompany the original medallion), the edge of this magnificent, imposing 200mm collector plate has been finished in real platinum!

A prestigious, historic addition to any collection, housed within a large, stylish gift-box presentation pack, the 2010 Sydney Cove Medallion 1oz Silver Proof & Wedgwood Plate Collection represents an unusual opportunity for the collector to experience Australia’s earliest colonial heritage.

New AAT Silver Proof launched!

The latest in one of the Perth Mint’s most successful recent collector programs, we are delighted to be able to unveil the 2010 $1 AAT Husky 1oz Silver Proof! An Australian legal tender coin of immense quality, great beauty and strictly limited availability, there seems little doubt that this eye-catching Silver Proof will mirror the ‘sell-out success’ of its predecessors.

In part, the inevitable success of the 2010 $1 AAT Husky 1oz Silver Proof can be attributed to the quality of the coin itself. Graced with a sensational full-colour design, this unique coin pays homage to the most loyal of Antarctic companions, the Husky. Hard working, faithful and tough, the Huskies were greatly valued by Antarctic explorers – as much for their friendship as for their usefulness as a reliable form of transport. Very much a part of Australia’s Antarctic experience, Australia kept huskies on the continent for

40 years, beginning in 1954 with the opening of the Mawson Station. Superbly depicted upon this full-colour .999 silver 1oz Proof, set against a map of Antarctica, there is no doubt that this Australian legal tender coin will be as popular as its illustrious predecessors. With five of the first six coins of the program sold out at the Mint, those predecessors are seldom offered – and are rapidly rising in value. With the rare 2004 Mawson Station $1 now worth A$250 and the 2005 Leopard Seal $1 rising to A$125+, for example, the wisdom in securing the 2010 $1 AAT Husky 1oz Silver Proof at Official Issue Price is obvious.

The latest in the Sealife Series!

The fourth coin in the Perth Mint’s extraordinarily popular Australian Sealife Series, the new 2010 50c Seahorse 1/2oz Silver Proof is now available – but for how long?

This series must rank as one of the most successful in modern Australian numismatic history. It is not just that two of the first three coins have sold out – with the third sell-out imminent – it is the speed with which

they have sold out. Driven by

the interesting theme,

superb

use of full-colour and, importantly, excellent value-for-money, the Lionfish 50c sold out before we even had the chance to offer it in Money! Whilst we did have the chance to offer the Clownfish 50c, the rapid sell-out left many empty-handed. With this in mind, the chance to secure the new 2010 Seahorse 50c must be grasped with both hands – at the earliest possible opportunity. In part, the massive interest in the series (issued until May 2010) is due to the spellbinding quality of the coins – as exemplified by this eye-catching tribute to the

Seahorse.

Virtually crown-sized at 36.60mm, the flan of each 1/2oz .999 silver Proof is distinguished by a dramatic design of this distinctive reef inhabitant, and represents a must-have for any full-colour coin collector. Moreover, the Seahorse 50c is crucial to the thousands of people determined to assemble the complete Sealife collection.Don’t wait until this horse has bolted. Secure your coin at Official Issue Price – this may be your one-and-only chance!

Including a Certificate confirming the mintage of 10,000, each .999 silver coin is set in a case in an outer box, that when united with the other four issues will form a complete picture of Australia’s marine wildlife!

The first coins of the Australian nation…Across the ages, and across the globe, the issue of currency has always formed one of the most powerful statements of sovereignty. Although arriving nearly ten years after Federation in 1901, the new nation of Australia finally made

its own statement of independence, with the issue of the unique, one-year-only Edward VII coin types found in this important, historic presentation.

The perfect way to celebrate the centenary of Australia’s first national coinage, revealed to the Australian populace in 1910, the 1910 King Edward VII Year Set is authentic, scarce and surprisingly affordable.

Beautifully presented in an illustrated full-colour pack, arrayed with details on the coins and life in pre-WWI Australia, the set comprises all four ‘first issue’ denominations – the 1910 threepence, sixpence, shilling and florin. Importantly, the coins of 1910 would be the ONLY Australian coins to carry the Edward VII obverse, with the King dying in May of that year.

More than just the symbol of a new nation, the sole Australian coinage of Edward VII is the foundation stone of every Australian coin collection. Outstanding value-for-money at our price, the sterling silver 1910 Year Set represents a great opportunity for you to add these crucial coins to your collection.

COMPLETE set in

one hit!Cleverly uniting the effigies of the four monarchs seen on Australia’s predecimal coinage – Edward VII, George V, George VI & Elizabeth II – the RAM has created a truly fitting tribute to the centenary of Australia’s first national coinage. An inspiring journey through Australia’s rich history of numismatic portraiture, the unique

design looks absolutely stunning when struck to the most rigorous Proof standards from .999 fine silver. A memorable work of numismatic art, sure to interest predecimal and decimal collectors alike, this unique 11.66g 25mm Australian legal tender coin is presented in an official case with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to the mintage of 12,500.

Among Australia’s longest-running collector programs, the annual Mintmark Series was traditionally released progressively throughout the year. Responding to calls from collectors for a more convenient format for the series, the RAM has, for the first time ever, released the COMPLETE annual issue in one hit – and in one pack!

Featuring the 25mm al-br C Mintmark and S, M and B Privymark $1 coins, the 2010 $1 Mintmark/Privymark Al-Br BU Set represents an affordable opportunity for you to mark the centenary of Australia’s

first national coinage. Crucially, with this superbly designed $1 type not to be issued for circulation, this set also represents a must-have for those desperate to maintain a complete decimal collection.

With no Gold Proof Set issued in 2008 or 2009, collectors were right to wonder whether we would ever again see Australia’s circulating coins struck in gold. Inspired by the centenary of Australia’s first national currency, the RAM has dispelled those fears with the release of the 2010 Gold Proof Set – arguably the most important issue in numismatics for the year.

Underpinned by unparalleled quality, inspiring originality, limited availability and great potential, the 2010 Gold Proof Set features six coins from 5c to $2 – struck from a massive 113.56g of .9999 gold! Blending tradition with innovation, the Mint has endowed each coin with the original design for its denomination – united with a unique obverse! Only used once before on an Australian coin, and never before seen in gold, the unique Australian-designed

portrait of Elizabeth II found on each coin was seriously considered for use on all Commonwealth coins in the 1990s.A bold, imaginative RAM initiative, the use of this unique obverse is sure to intensify demand for what was always destined to be one of

the hottest products of 2010. Indicative of the passionate interest in the series, the 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Gold Proof Sets all sold out in short order and are virtually never seen today. Offered just a few times a year, the intense competition for the few available examples has ensured soaring market values across-the-board. With initial demand justifying expectations of a rapid sell-out of the mintage of just 500, and our allocation already all but exhausted, this will

The 1923 Halfpenny…The rarest, most desirable coin in the 1911-64 Halfpenny series, the rise of the 1923 Halfpenny goes on unabated. Always in demand, and seldom offered, this is your chance to be one of the privileged few people to own one of the ‘Big Guns’ of Australian numismatics.

The key to the Halfpenny Series, acknowledged as one of the shining lights of the entire Australian Commonwealth Series, the 1923 Halfpenny forms a crucial acquisition for the serious predecimal collector. Struck at the Melbourne Mint, the recorded mintage figure was proved inaccurate in the early 1990s, and it is now believed that as few as 20,000 1923 Halfpennies were struck.

Although the number remaining from that tiny mintage is open to speculation, the infrequent appearances on the market of the 1923 Halfpenny is testimony to its rarity. It is the acknowledged rarity of the coin that has driven demand from the investment market, and the competition for the few available examples has ensured significant price-growth in recent years. Valued at A$650 little more than a decade ago, a 1923 1/2d in Fine, as here, now catalogues at A$2,250 – but is rarely available at such a price.Still remarkably affordable for such a prime Australian rarity, however, and still the ideal coin for those in quest of an investment under A$3,000, this is an outstanding

opportunity for you to join the elite of Australian numismatics. Grasp the chance to own a 1923 Halfpenny, and we’ll throw in a 1911-64 Halfpenny Set valued at A$295 – yours for FREE!

The 1930 Penny…

The King of Australian Coins, the 1930 Penny is the nation’s highest profile rarity, with a reputation that extends well beyond numismatics.

The ultimate collector acquisition, and Australia’s Number One numismatic investment, the George V 1930 Penny is ‘the coin never meant to be struck’.

With no need for more coins in the shattered economy of the Great Depression, no pennies should have been minted in this year, and it is believed that the 1930 Penny was struck in the process of testing dies. The key thing for collectors and investors, however, is not WHY it was struck, but that SO FEW were struck. It is thought that 3,000 examples of the 1930 Penny were minted, with around 1,500 available to the market today. The recognition of that extreme rarity has raised the profile of the coin to unparalleled heights, both within and outside the industry. It is this ever-growing market outside numismatics that is the crucial factor in the spectacular recent rise of the 1930 Penny.

Competition for the small pool of existing examples has generated strong price growth, with the 1930 Penny soaring in value in the last decade or so. In Fine, as here, the King of Australian Coins has leapt from a catalogue value of A$8,750 in 1997 to A$30,000 today. With further price increases inevitable, now is the time to place your trust in the famous 1930 Penny. We have just a few examples available – each accompanied by a FREE 1911-64 Penny Set valued at A$545!

Struck with original 19th century dies! For the gold, the history, the quality and the presentation, the 2010 Gold Sovereign 5-Coin Proof Set is one of the finest acquisitions you could make – especially given that each coin was struck with original 19th century coin dies!

A radical innovation by the Royal Mint, rendering each coin unique,

the use of original dies in 2009 created havoc, and the collection sold out at super speed. Sure to spark a similarly spectacular response, with many people missing out last year, the 2010 Gold Sovereign Proof Set also comprises coins struck from 19th century reverse dies procured from the Mint’s Museum Collection. Comprising over TWO OUNCES of

22-carat gold,

the 2010 set features the 39.94g Gold £5, Double Sovereign and Sovereign – all struck from 1820s dies almost certainly worked on by creator of the St George reverse, Benedetto Pistrucci! The Half Sovereign, struck from 1893 dies, is also included, with the Quarter Sovereign completing the set. With different tooling employed for each denomination in the 19th century, the use of original dies means that each 2010 coin is also

unique – adding to the traditional qualities of what is already one of the world’s premier gold issues. Although we secured an allocation as official Mint distributor, there is no time to waste for

those keen to secure this majestic gold collection. A sell-out is inevitable.
