Principal’s Report Student Leaders—Badge Presentation A special assembly will be held at 9.00am on Monday 7th March to present our 2016 student leaders with their badges. This will include school co-captains, house captains, bus captains, Junior School Council, KidsMatter and Environment captains. We invite all parents to attend if you are able to make it along. It will be a brief presentation and should be concluded by 9.20am. School Council Our next meeting of School Council will be held on Wednesday 9th at 7.30pm. We still have a number of parent vacancies available on school council. If you are interested in joining please contact me at school for further details. Parent Teacher Discussions Parent-Teacher discussions provide an opportunity for teachers to get to know your child a little better and help to promote the relationship between home and school. At Drouin South Primary School we offer two “formal” opportunities for discussions during the year. We will be holding our first parent-teacher discussions in the last week of Term 1 and more information will be sent home next week once the availability of staff has been confirmed. Whilst we encourage parent attendance at these sessions I also recommend that if you wish to discuss anything with your child’s teacher an appointment can be made with teachers at other times throughout the year. Farm World Dates and Fundraising The PFF do a terrific job fundraising for the school as well as helping out in many other ways. The largest and most exciting fundraiser for the year is definitely the provision of the delivery service over the 4 days of Farm World. This year we are looking to put the fundraising towards providing more sheltered areas and possibly covered walkways around the school. The Farm World fundraiser requires many volunteers to make it possible. This year the dates are 7th-10th April which is the last 4 days of the school holidays. For more information please see the article in this newsletter and collect an information pack form the school office. Swimming report Earlier this week, five students represented Drouin South Primary School at the Divisional Swimming Carnival. From all reports the students were well conducted and up-help our school values to a high standard. Congratulations to: Hailey: 2

We wish you success in your events. Parent Feedback I am always very interested to hear from parents about any suggestions and thoughts you may have about the school. My aim is to work with students, staff, parents and community to continue to make Drouin South a great school. Please feel free to come and say hello and let m know of any thoughts you may have.

Kids at home for the school holidays but, you still want to help with Farmworld? Well here's how… We’re looking for donations of delicious, homemade slices and biscuits

for our hard-working volunteers to enjoy while at Farm World! If you can help, please contact either Susie Williames (0487 456 596) or Belinda King (0427 822 871) to arrange a

convenient drop-off time and place for your baked goods.

Farm World 2016 is fast approaching and volunteer forms were sent home with

students yesterday. While Farm World in not until 7-10th April we will need to

gather volunteer numbers before the end of term. Please consider carefully if you

can help with this very important fundraiser and return your forms as soon as

possible.

The challenge this year is that Farm World will be on the last weekend of the

school holidays. We know this will pose different challenges for all of us, but we

urge all of our school families to consider how they can assist with this fantastic

fundraiser. If possible, can you get together with other families and work out

childcare arrangements so that parents/relatives/older siblings/friends are able

to come and help. Do you have any friends or relatives who may be able to help?

Our group of delivery service volunteers is more that just our parents and this just

adds to the strength of our school community.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Bulb Fundraiser this year. We

made $479.50 towards this year’s fundraising efforts! Thanks, PFF.

Our Junior School Council have three upcoming activities for students to participate in. Please see a JSC member or Mrs Phillips for more information.

Mr Smith was born in Marrickville, Sydney and went to Lethbridge Park Primary. He could see the school from his house so walked everyday. When he reached high school

age he went to Mt Druitt High and still walked even though it was further away because it.

As a child Mr Smith was most afraid of getting lost and didn’t really like big crowds

because it was easier for him to loose his mum and dad. He’s not afraid of getting lost anymore but he is afraid of anything that

could eat him!

Mr Smith is the only boy in his family but he has two sisters who live in Sydney. Their

names are Linda and Debbie. He also has 2 dogs called Bonnie and Diesel and 2 alpacas

without names.

3/4A have been studying biographies and as part of this decided to write a biography on Mr Smith. Students in the class wrote questions and interviewed Mr Smith. We discovered there’s a lot more to Mr Smith than being our principal. Have a read,

maybe you might find you have something in common with him…

When Mr Smith was 9 years old he got a 3

speed dragster bike. This was his favourite toy growing up and he loved riding after school with his

friends.

When Mr Smith was younger, his favourite sport to play was Rugby League. He played from when he was about 7 through to his 20’s. He doesn’t play anymore because Rugby League is a very rough game and it takes his body too long to recover from the knocks

and bumps each game.

In high school, maths was his favourite subject as he enjoyed the problem solving and loved the feeling of getting the answer right.

Mr Smith’s first job was working at a petrol station when he was in high school. He really enjoyed this job, particularly on hot summer days or nights. The petrol station had an ice making machine and it was Mr Smith’s job to shovel ice into plastic bags ready to be sold.

Even though it was hard work, He really liked being in the cool room when it was hot outside.

Mr Smith plays the guitar in a band, and has a few different

ones of his own. His favourite music is rock and his favourite band is KISS. When not at school, Mr Smith likes to play his

guitar but he often finds himself doing things like mowing the lawn or painting as there are always jobs that need to be done.

Mr Smith enjoyed being a teacher and helping students. He was inspired to become a principal because he felt if he could have an impact on the children in his class, it would

be even greater to help all of the kids in a school.

One of the funniest moments for Mr Smith happened when he was the principal at Garfield Primary. One of the new preps went home and told their mum that they had

met the Prince of the school.

Mr Smith is married to a teacher. His wife teaches Prep/1 at Warragul Primary School and he has two children, Brittney who is 21 and attends university and Mitchell who is 18 and

finished Year 12 last year.

One of his greatest accomplishments was being selected to be principal at Drouin South Primary School. Drouin South Primary is a great school with great kids and he was

excited to be part of it.

Mr Smith has some advice for students at school…..

Have a learning goal and work hard to achieve it!
