Kens Pen Dear Church Family, On Sunday, April 17, Bethany will hold an Our Jerusalem Festival on the church campus. On that day, we will hear from several gospel- centered ministries in our city. The speakers will educate us about the work being conducted through these ministries and how Bethany members can be involved. Here is a list of the ministries and speakers that will be with us: Friendship International— Anna Mary Birdwell Ministers to internationals who have moved into Louisville. Louisville Rescue Mission—Cory Bledsoe Provides care and hope for our citys homeless. Orphan Care Alliance—Heather Sewell Equips families and connects them to the needs of orphans. Refuge Louisville—Sarah Wooten Enables churches to reach refugees residing in Louisville. Scoops and Scripture—Kelly Pass Ministers to people in retirement homes, childrens homes, and other settings. As you can see, we will be hearing from minis- tries that touch people of all ages and back- grounds, and who are in various conditions of need. The festival schedule is provided in the right- hand column. Please make every effort to be present for the whole event, which will begin at 9 a.m. and will end by 2 p.m. We will not have any activities on the church campus that evening (except for choir practice, which will take place almost immediately following the last festival session—see next column). Toward the close of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spoke the command that addresses the relationships that His kingdoms citizens have with all people in this fallen world. The com- mand applies to our dealings with our neighbor, in general, and it sums up the essence of Gods Law according to our Lords teaching. The com- mand has come to be called The Golden Rule. It states, Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them. This means that, when we see fellow human beings in need, we place ourselves in their shoes, as it were, and ask, What would I want someone to do for me in that situation? If I were an orphan, I would want someone to care for me. If I were hungry and homeless, I would want someone to feed me and help me get on my feet. If I had never understood that Jesus died and rose again to save and liberate us from sin, I would want some- one to do whatever it took to help me un- derstand that wonderful news. So, as the Kings citizens—transformed and empow- ered by His grace—we are to do these things for others. Join with me in praying that the Our Jerusalem Festival will equip us all the more to live The Golden Rule in our city for the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Until the whole world hears, Ken Sunday, April 17: 9 a.m.-Continental Breakfast (FH). 9:15-We will hear about Friendship Inter- national, and Scoops and Scripture (FH). 10:30-Worship Celebration with Cory Bledsoe, of Louisville Rescue Mission, preaching the message. Noon-Potluck Lunch (remember to bring a covered dish to the FH!). 12:45-We will hear about Refuge Louis- ville and Orphan Care Alliance (FH). Attention, choir: About 15 minutes after the final session, we will meet in the choir room for a brief rehearsal. __________________________________________________________________________________ NEWS + NOTES = Christian sympathy and love belong to Jean Cogswell at the March 16 death of her brother, William Pierce. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Ronald/Roberta Walker have given gifts to I Love Bethanyin memory of Omar Millers brother, Freeman, and of David Johnsons brother-in-law Steven Parsons. _________________________________________ Helena Mink is featured on the Berea College website. Orphan Care Alliance—Heather Sewell Equips families and connects them to the needs of orphans.

Refuge Louisville—Sarah Wooten Enables churches to reach refugees residing in Louisville.

Scoops and Scripture—Kelly Pass Ministers to people in retirement homes, children’s homes, and other settings.

As you can see, we will be hearing from minis-tries that touch people of all ages and back-grounds, and who are in various conditions of need.

The festival schedule is provided in the right-hand column. Please make every effort to be present for the whole event, which will begin at 9 a.m. and will end by 2 p.m. We will not have any activities on the church campus that evening (except for choir practice, which will take place almost immediately following the last festival session—see next column).

If I were

hungry and homeless, I would want someone to feed me and help me get on my feet. If I had never understood that Jesus died and rose again to save and liberate us from sin, I would want some-one to do whatever it took to help me un-derstand that wonderful news. So, as the King’s citizens—transformed and empow-ered by His grace—we are to do these things for others. Join with me in praying that the Our Jerusalem Festival will equip us all the more to live The Golden Rule in our city for the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
