Beverly Catholic Community

Pasta & Bingo Night Fun!

Here is a way that we can give alms together during Lent.

During each Sunday of Lent, can we all join together and bring a particular item to Church?

WE WOULD ALL BRING THE SAME ITEM.

The FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT— SUNDAY, MARCH 10 please bring just one container of:

PEANUT BUTTER

We will have boxes in the back of our Churches. We could use some volunteers at each of the parishes who would be willing to help load and deliver the items each week. It is a small way of giving alms and of doing something together. We will have a new item listed in next week’s bulletin.

LENTEN ALMSGIVING WITH THE BEVERLY CATHOLIC COLLABORATIVE

On all the Wednesdays of Lent from 6:30-8:00PM, the Beverly Catholic Collaborative and all the parishes and chapels of the Archdiocese of Boston will be open for indi-vidual confession.

BEGINNING MARCH 13

“THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU” WILL BE HELD FOR OUR BEVERLY CATHOLIC PARISHES AT

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH 111 NEW BALCH STREET, BEVERLY

6:30PM—8:00PM

COMMITMENT WEEKEND: MARCH 2-3

In the Gospel today, Jesus reminds us that we are known by the fruits of our generosity. In opening the doors of our hearts to this season of Lent, may we consider supporting those who turn to the Church for assistance, through life-changing ministries such as Addiction Recovery Services or the Faith Community Nursing program. Your gift to the 2019 Catholic Appeal

provides half of the funding for many important programs that enrich parish life, our Catholic schools, and the lives of many. Every gift has an immediate impact in our parish communities. Please find more information about this life-changing work in the envelope in your pew or visit our website at bostoncatholicappeal.org to view our latest video about the Appeal. Thank you!

Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time The Lectionary for Sunday Mass uses a three-year cycle, so we hear most Sunday readings every three years; but today’s readings for the Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C, were last used in 2001, eight-een years ago. Ordinary Time is interrupted by Lent and Easter, and then the Sundays after Pentecost are outranked by Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi. Depending on the date of Easter, some readings are heard rarely. This is also the last Sunday before Lent, and the last use of the "Alleluia" acclamation until the Easter Vigil. "Alleluia" (sometimes printed "Hallelujah") comes from the Hebrew phrase in the Psalms, "hallelu Yah," meaning "praise God." "Yah" is a shortened version of "Yahweh," the name that God revealed to Moses in the burning bush. The use of God's personal name, "Yahweh" or "Yah," is part of our intimacy with the Heavenly Father. In Lent, as we prepare for Easter, and examine our lives, as a Church we be-come more formal with the Father. Our focus is not "Love ya, Dad;" instead we pray, "Father, forgive us."

Wondering What to do for Lent? How can we practice the three disciplines of Lent---Prayer, Fasting and Alms Giving?

Check out these ideas:

Stations of the Cross—Fridays 3:00PM at St. John’s and 6:30PM at St. Mary’s.

The Light is on for You—Confessions will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00PM at St. John’s.

Collection for those in need—participate in the weekly collection for those in need in Beverly.

Rosary for the Unborn—Tuesdays 5:30PM in the lower Church at St. Mary’s. The Rosary is said throughout the year at St. Mary’s on Saturdays at 3:30PM and weekdays at 6:30AM.
