Dear Friend, The annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology was held inDenver March 21-25, 2014. Over the course of the meeting I spoke with sunprotective clothing companies, sunscreen companies, and -- particularlyinteresting -- companies using technology to diagnose melanoma.
Several people observed that dermatology is the last place in medicine thatremains resistant to technology. Despite this resistance, a number of groupsare working on creative ways to leverage the power of technology in effort todetermine if a lesion is melanoma or not, or even to predict if a melanomapatient is likely to experience metastasis. You can learn more about theseefforts here. Sincerely,
Timothy TurnhamExecutive Director

Event Recap: Legislative Hill Day The MRF's 2014 Legislative Hill Day was a monumental success! Volunteersfrom across the country attended more than 60 meetings with congressionaloffices representing 20 different states. Participants focused on key issuessuch as increased funding from the Department of Defense for melanomaresearch and the need for tanning bed reclassification.
A personal meeting with members of Congress and their staff is a powerfulexperience. MRF advocates help congressional offices understand the issuesaffecting the melanoma community by sharing their personal stories andsuggesting ways their representatives can address these issues.
The MRF also held a "virtual" HillDay to complement the in-personmeetings, which allowed people tomake a difference from the comfortof their own home. Volunteers calledand sent emails to theirrepresentatives' offices, urging themto support the MRF's legislativepriorities. More than 100 peopleparticipated and the MRF will holdour second "virtual" Hill Day in Mayin honor of Melanoma AwarenessMonth.
MRF advocates are creating andstrengthening relationships withtheir members of Congress, andthey will have a measurable impacton federal policy surrounding melanoma research. To join them and the MRF
