Overview and Target Audience Continuing Medical Education – Friday, March 2, 2018 (clinical attendees only) Many medical disciplines encounter patients with Ehlers- Danlos Syndromes (EDS), autonomic dysfunction, and other related disorders. Misunderstandings regarding these conditions are prevalent despite recent advances. The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes are a group of connective tissue disorders that vary in how they affect the body and in their genetic causes. Patients may present with a variety of complex symptoms and endure significant diagnostic delays. Frequently comorbid conditions include autonomic dysfunction (most oſten Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and gastrointestinal disorders. The latest in diagnosis and treatment options for EDS and the related conditions will be presented. The target audience includes primary care providers, specialists, sub-specialists, and allied health professionals. This program includes information for the care of pediatric and adult patients. Patient-Family Sessions – Saturday, March 3, 2018 Patients and families with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes, autonomic dysfunction, and related disorders will hear from the same experts on these topics and learn about treatment options and tips for improving quality of life. The lectures are geared for adult patients and pediatric patient family members. A separate teen program will be available during many of the lectures. Pediatric patients must be twelve or older to attend the conference. Continuing Education Objectives Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to: Identify the symptoms and features associated with the different types of Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and explain how to treat, diagnose, or refer accordingly. Describe the new classification system for EDS. Identify the symptoms of autonomic dysfunction, particularly Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Identify gastrointestinal complications in patients with EDS. Identify features of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and other immunological complications in patients with EDS . Describe current therapy and treatment options for chronic pain and psychological comorbidities in EDS. Describe physical therapy modalities available for EDS and POTS. Describe current cell-based research efforts in EDS.
