On the Importance of IATF 16949
Terry Onica, QAD’s Director of Automotive, was interviewed by the AIAG and highlighted in a related article on the AIAG web site. In the video interview, Terry “addressed new automotive industry requirements for risk-based thinking; management, identification, and assessment in MMOG/LE v4; and the new IATF 16949.” Terry recommended two actions: (1) Look a sub-supplier risk more diligently and (2) consider whether their contingency plans are too high-level.

Lipton Iced Tea
Congratulations to the QAD Team as Lipton Iced Tea Goes Live on
QAD Cloud ERP. In the early part of 2015, Lipton engaged with QAD to
upgrade their eB2 version to QAD Cloud ERP to take advantage of .Net
UI and browses to eliminate the need of users exporting reports into
excel. There was also a requirement to move the existing hosting of the
QAD application from Unilever's data centre to the QAD Cloud.
This was an extremely challenging project due to the complexities of Unilever's network policies
and security protocol's. The team worked through the issues and Lipton successfully went live on
QAD Cloud ERP on the 17th October.

Industrial & High Tech Newsletter
Industrial / High Tech holiday coolness approaches The holidays approach and even Santa knows that the Industrial and High Tech verticals are the
coolest of all the verticals. And who knows cool better than a guy that lives at the North Pole?
Santa’s recent tweets included #IndustrialCoolest and #HighTechChilling. What continues to
make Industrial and High Tech so cool is the diversity of the customers and their associated
challenges. This group of customers spans the entire spectrum of manufacturing orientation and
supply chain complexities.
It turns out that both the customer AND the customer’s customer is always right! There is an old saying the states that “the customer is always right.” At a recent gathering of the
QAD Customer Advisory Group (CAG), QAD was reminded that it is important to remember that
our customers have customers. During discussion, CAG members encouraged to QAD to be
aware of what their customers expect/demand from them. QAD’s customers are only successful
if they meet the needs of their respective markets. QAD capability resonates best when it
enables our customers to deliver for theirs.

embraced the learning opportunity and provided great input into iterative improvements for future
sessions. One suggestion would be to remember to take a class photo – please see simulated
holiday effort below. This program is recommended for pre-sales, services personnel and any
other QAD employee who would like to add to their knowledge of manufacturing and what
makes QAD customers tick. Sessions are being planned for 2017 and you will soon be able to
register for the courses at QAD training center.

COMPETITIVE BITS 13
C-Bit: Oracle Says it will run NetSuite Independently
In a departure from how it typically integrates new acquisitions, Oracle has announced it will run NetSuite as a separate business unit, letting NetSuite maintain its own pricing and branding, according to an eWeek article and other sources. Oracle believes there is little overlap between NetSuite ERP and Oracle’s offerings, and outlined details for a two-tiered approach to ERP with NetSuite targeting small and medium enterprises. Oracle believes it can leverage it worldwide footprint to rapidly globalize NetSuite, which to date has been mostly US-based.
C-Bit: Infor’s Latest Supply Chain Planning Release
Infor unveiled Infor IBP (integrated business planning) v11.1. Improved features include better visualization through gauge and trend charts, the integration of its previously standalone “Intelligent S&OP” module and new variables in the Demand+ and Supply+ modules. The 11.1 release attempts to better position Infor IBP as a direct competitor to products like QAD DSCP.
C-Bit: SAP Positioning Itself for 2017
SAP started positioning itself for 2017 in a variety of articles, including:
No Big Acquisitions: SAP CFO Luka Mucic told Reuters that he anticipates only smaller, technology-focused purchases going forward. The inference is SAP does not currently plan any blockbuster acquisitions in 2017 like Concur (2014) or Ariba (2012).
Machine Learning: CEO Bill McDermott stated SAP's goal was to have “the most intelligent business applications" and highlighted their increased investment in both money and personnel in machine learning.
SME: Barry Padgett, president of SAP Business One, Business ByDesign and SAP Anywhere, said that for SAP to not be known for its SME solutions is “tragic.” He believes that the coming 50% increase in engineers and development over the next nine months in that sector should help correct the situation and will foster growth in the SME market for SAP.
C-Bit: Oracle Q2 – Cloud Strong but the Rest Not
Oracle reported 2nd quarter financial results highlighted by considerable growth in cloud, though overall revenue was flat and fell short of expectations. SAAS/PAAS revenue rose 87% year-over-year but still accounted for less than 10% of Oracle's overall revenue in the period [QAD’s subscription revenue accounted for nearly 20% of revenue it its most recent reported quarter].
Oracle also boasted that they passed Salesforce to become the top SaaS cloud application for customers over 1000 employees citing an IDC report. Co-CEO Mark Hurd noted that the company expects to book over $2 billion in new cloud business in fiscal 2017 and hopes with the NetSuite acquisition they can become the top SaaS application for customers with fewer than 1000 employees as well.

DEALS FROM THE WORLD
Watts Water Technologies
THE COMPANY: Watts Water Technologies EMEA, with divisional headquarters in the Netherlands, is part of the Watts Water Technologies family with operations in North America, Europe and Asia. Watts designs, manufactures and sells an extensive line of flow control products for the water quality, residential plumbing & heating, commercial and OEM markets.
VERTICAL: Industrial
THE DEAL: Cloud upgrade from EE 2011 to EE 2015
THE COMPETITION: SAP
WHY WE WON: This was a difficult project to say the least with a not-so-easy customer! Watts had issued an RFP in 2015 to replace QAD. We were up against SAP and Oracle. The end result was no firm decision as of yet however, Watts decided to renew their Cloud agreement with QAD for another 3 years with the potential to expand to some other sites in Europe. There is still risk to move to SAP in the future but our Cloud team did a fantastic job to upgrade Watts who is one of the largest Cloud Strategic ICE customers with sites in the US, Canada, Asia and Europe. This project has been challenging as it was not only QAD core but also TMS and MSW/PSW implementation.
Go-live day had some minor bumps but the entire team took responsibility and everything was resolved in a flash!
15
Adient
THE COMPANY: Adient is a tier 1 automotive component manufacturer, providing seating for major OEMs globally with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan (the "D"!).
VERTICAL: Automotive
THE COMPETITION: Serious threat from SAP, but with the change in direction to QAD and our strong engagement across different levels and regions within the organization, we were able to continue expanding the QAD footprint in Adient APAC.
WHY WE WON: We successfully closed a $460,000 USD license deal for additional modules and licenses. As a result of the recent spin-off from JCI, Adient was looking to utilize their 2016 budget for additional IT investment. We worked closely with the IT leadership and also directly with the Asia Pacific Procurement Director to pull this into QAD by getting them to buy software licenses that can be deployed across the region. The deal comprises of add-on users for Enhanced Controls, Warehouse Management, and QXtend. The biggest challenge was to get this closed before the official spin-off was completed and overcome their administrative delays. With the support of our entire team including Shiv, Judy, Carole and Sherry we were able to pull this off successfully.
Frigus Bohn
COMPANY BACKGROUND: Frigus Bohn was born the same day as the NAFTA agreement between Mexico, USA and Canada, January 1st 1994. The Mexican company Frigus joins Heatcraft, the US leader in refrigeration coils to create Frigus Bohn. Frigus knowledge around the Mexican market with Bohn's products and its technology (Heatcraft), makes Frigus Bohn one of the most important and innovative refrigeration companies in Mexico. Frigus Bohn has 3 plants in Mexico (Queretaro, Monterrey and Merida) and exports its products to USA, Canada and Central America.
WHY WE WON: There were many challenges during this 10 month sales cycle process with Frigus Bohn. But overall what they saw in our offering was the strength of our manufacturing solution against our competitors and our complete portfolio of products (QMS, QAS, Lean) that could be acquired in the future to fulfill their entire needs as a company. The team made a fantastic job on discoveries and demos and engaging and building up a C-Level relationship from player from many different areas including operations, finance, IT and general management.
16
Even though Oracle was literally giving away their licenses for Fusion as it would have been the first manufacturing facility of its kind in Mexico with that product, QAD managed to overcome this situation by explaining the robust organization that the company has in Mexico together with great reference visits to Metalsa, Xignus, Dana and Nexteer.Product, people, processes, references and engagement is what made QAD win this deal.
COMPETITION: Our main competitors were Infor, Oracle (Fusion and Business Suite), SAP and the worst of all "do nothing" and stay with Epicor as it was their current solution.
HR Pharmaceuticals
THE COMPANY: HR® Pharmaceuticals manufactures lubricating jellies for personal lubricant and for a variety of medical applications.
Founded in 1925, their headquarters are in York, PA. Since the inception of HR Pharma in 2008 they have developed a reputation of quality, safety and value; these same principles date back to 1931 of producing quality products that benefit mankind. With Manufacturing Integrity and 100% compliance to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 13485:2003, cGMP requirements and the Orthodox Union, HR® creates value for their customers by continuously delivering safe and effective medical devices, pharmaceuticals & other consumer products. HR is one of central PA's fastest growing companies and has increased their product offering by 2000% since 2011, and are continuing this growth into 2016..THE COMPETITION: Infor, Epicor, Microsoft
WHY WE WON: Our proactive approach to development of cGMP compliant functionality and expertise in FDA validated delivery! HR Pharma was seeking a validated system that could seamlessly integrate their current process into one system and streamline some of their processes to improve inefficiencies. HR’s current system was not capable of handling process manufacturing and QAD’s mixed-mode manufacturing was a differentiator. HR also needed a system that could be validated for both ERP and QMS as well as a system that could handle multi-site capabilities for anticipated growth.
Oras Group
Vertical: CPG
Project: Goes Live on QAD Cloud ERP
Location: Rauma, Finland
17
Customer since: 1993
Oras Group is a significant European provider of sanitary fittings: the market leader in the Nordics and a leading company in Continental Europe. The company's mission is to make the use of water easy and sustainable and its vision is to become the European leader of advanced sanitary fittings. The Group has two strong brands, Oras and Hansa. Oras Group is owned by Oras Invest, a family company and an industrial owner.
The head office of the Group is located in Rauma, Finland, and the Group has four manufacturing sites: Burglengenfeld (Germany), Kralovice (Czech Republic), Olesno (Poland) and Rauma (Finland). The Group operates with their own staff in 20 markets. Oras Group net sales were 245 million euro in 2015 and at the end of the period the company employed 1370 people.
Early this year Oras opted to migrate their existing QAD solution to the Cloud as a prelude to a corporate EE upgrade in the mid term. This decision was driven by their move from a partner supported client direct to QAD and the additional benefits that utilising our Cloud offering would immediately deliver to Oras.
After working closely with the QAD team over the ensuing months I am happy to report that Oras successfully went live on QAD Cloud ERP this week.
What's Next: Oras will continue to bed down the system and continue operations in the Cloud for their global network of sites. Planning has already started for their impending migration to Enterprise Edition. Stay tuned for further news!
Amtico International
Vertical: CPG
Project: Goes Live on QAD Cloud ERP
Location: Coventry, UK
Customer since: 1994
Amtico International is a progressive, design-led flooring company. As market leaders in the manufacture and design of luxury vinyl tile flooring, they strive to be the best in their industry. Amtico is proud of their achievements over the last 50 years, and have developed an agile approach to remain an authentic design-flooring brand.
Professionally respected, industry accredited and advocated by designers, contractors and architects alike, Amtico flooring is the result of hard work by their global service, manufacturing and design teams today and tomorrow.
Part of the US based Mannington Group since 2012, Amtico has its HQ in the UK with other facilities in Germany, France, Sweden & the US. Amtico employs over 400 people around the globe.
Amtico had utilised QAD for a number of years across their global sites to support their business expansion and growth.
After their acquisition by Mannington Group in 2012 things took a turn for the worse. Unfortunately Mannington were
18
one of SAP's manufacturing stars (their case study is on the SAP website!) and Amtico were told that this was to be their fate.
After successfully working with Amtico to deliver a business case for remaining on QAD and upgrading to the latest version in the Cloud - we then had to deliver.
This was a challenging project as there were a number of changes of personnel at the customer and as a result limited ownership from the client. This led to the project being completely replanned during July with revised project milestones and responsibilities. The new dates for the completion of the project were all successfully achieved.
After working closely with the QAD team over the ensuing months I am happy to report that Amtico successfully went live across seven sites on QAD Cloud ERP.
What's Next: Amtico will undergo their first month end at the end of December and in the meantime will be working on ensuring that the system is working optimally. We are now targeting other companies within the wider group, as it transpires that Amtico's parent company, Mannington Mills, is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with their existing SAP instance. Stay tuned for further news!
STAT-Diagnostica
Vertical: Life Sciences
Project: New Cloud Order
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Customer since: 2016
STAT-Diagnostica develops fully integrated molecular and immunoassay diagnostic systems for clinical decentralised testing: ivd products delivering immediate & actionable clinical information for improved patient management.
The DiagCORE platform is designed to meet the requirements of decentralised testing environments without compromising assay quality and performance. Their systems deliver true walk-away solutions in single-test consumables offering end-to-end sample to results with the shortest turnaround times.
19
The company are partway through the validation of their product and subject to successfully passing this they will begin production in April 2017. To aid their validation process and put the processes in place to control their production they needed a modern ERP solution with a strong focus on the Life Sciences vertical.
Their CFO had previously worked at Cellnovo (a UK QAD Cloud ERP customer) and contacted the Spanish team to discuss STAT-Diagnostics requirements in more detail.
This was a quick win as the prospect had already decided on a short list from their own research. QAD carried the day because of
1. Our Cloud expertise - the customer had no interest in managing their own IT2. Rapid implementation - they needed to be live as soon as possible in 20173. EOB for Life Science Features - gave them the comfort we knew their vertical and already had industry
best practices embedded in our solution
What's Next: The customer is keen to be live as soon as possible and is fully expecting to increase their user count over the coming twelve months as they move from pre-production to full manufacturing of their devices. They are also interested in our QMS offering and are already scoping their quality requirements.
Invacare
Vertical: Life Sciences
Project: Goes Live on CSS in the Cloud
Location: Fondettes, France
Customer since: 1990
Invacare Corporation, headquartered in Elyria, Ohio, is the global leader in the manufacture and distribution of innovative home and long-term care medical products that promote recovery and active lifestyles.
Invacare has grown from 3 factories to 30, 300 associates to over 6,000, net sales of $19 million to $1.7 billion and from a small, privately owned company to a NYSE corporation listed on the "Fortune" 1000. Today, Invacare is the global leader in the home and long-term care industries.
20
As part of Invacare's migration to QAD 2015 EE they opted to implement QAD's Customer Self Service Portal. This was a key part of Invacare's desire to improve their customer service levels and allow their customers easy access to Invacare's products and pricing.
Invacare will use CSS to give their customers access to a portal that they call 'Invacare Professional Access'. The first phase allows Invacare's customers to access to various other Invacare webpages where they can find ordering and pricing information, and enter requests for additional information.
What's Next: The next phase of the project will consist of the interfacing of item data from Invacare's Product Information Management application into CSS as well as full access to their QAD Cloud ERP instance. This will allow Invacare's customers to configure (using the QAD configurator) and order Invacare products via the web. Stay tuned!
Safe Metal
Vertical: Industrial
Project: Goes Live on Enterprise Applications 2016
Location: Lyon, France
Customer since: 1995
Safe Metal leads the world in the production of cast steel components. Their parts are used in high-speed trains, semi-trailers, cranes, port lifting equipment, public works vehicles and mining equipment. Their expertise comes from over one hundred years in business.
Know-how that knows no weight limits. Whether weighing a few pounds or 50 tons, every one of Safe Metal's cast steel components benefits from their expertise:
7 specialised plants in Europe, Mexico and China, highly efficient, complementary & producing 80,000 tons of products every year
international, multidisciplinary teams with the ability to deliver optimised solutions and services to all their customers worldwide
an unwavering commitment to technical progress and innovation, driving the development of leading-edge products & production processes
21
Safe Metal are a long time user of QAD and were one of EMEA's first wave of clients who made the jump to Enterprise Edition, migrating to 2009.1 EE in early 2010.
Since that time the group has grown through a combination of organic growth as well as acquiring complimentary companies (who then get added onto their QAD ERP solution).
In late 2015 as part of our ongoing customer engagement program we positioned the benefits that Safe would see from a migration to the latest iteration of the QAD solution (not least the readiness for Channel Islands).
This was the first 2016 EE project in France and also the first upgrade conducted using YAB so a number of important firsts for the local team!
What's Next:The next phase of the project will see Safe Metal investigate Channel Islands. They are also interested in QAD QMS and potentially QAD TMS. Stay tuned!
Serac
Vertical: Industrial
Project: Goes Live on QAD Enterprise Applications 2015
Location: La Ferte-Bernard, France
Customer since: 1995
Serac Group designs, assembles and provides packaging solutions (machines and lines) to industrial companies and end-users, mainly in dairy products, edible oil and home and personal care products.
It comprises of 11 commercial offices located in France, Brazil, USA, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Russia, Japan, China, Spain, the UK and 6 factories in France (3), Brazil (1), US (1) and Malaysia (1). More than 5000 machines have been installed in over 100 countries.
Serac's strategy is to differentiate from competitors by taking advantage of what makes it shine: a unique model, structured around a highly international commercial and industrial presence in all markets.
22
Serac opted to migrate from eB2 to Enterprise Edition in September of 2015. The first phase of the project saw the QAD Services team work with the Serac team to define a core model that would be deployed across the whole of the global group. This core model was then jointly deployed to the first site, Serac's French HQ in La Ferte-Bernard.
The project was challenging for a number of reasons. The upgrade process itself was a 'hybrid conversion' with all of Serac's operational data converted but none of their finance data. This was done to avoid any issues with the new Enterprise Financials and give Serac a clean slate. This was the first time that this approach was used in France with a client already utilising QAD financials.
The project also saw the first deployment in France (outside of the early adopter program) of QAD's AS solution with Serac's receiving processes completely redesigned with our Automation Solutions offering.
What's Next: Now the HQ in France has deployed QAD Enterprise Edition the plan is to continue the project with the deployment of the core model to other Serac Group production sites in France, Brazil, US and Malaysia. Stay tuned!
