As we accumulate more and more materials, the storage issue is constantly questioned. The solution perhaps lies in old abandoned agricultural structures. Purpose of the project is to integrate the archive of the region.

The building proposes two separate systems. Underground, the archives grow in time, without constraint of space. Just like a lid, the second system simply lands on the existing walls, acting as a protective filter. The steel megastructure serves as an exhibition space for works of art and consultation of the underneath located archive.

In which way do we conciliate a production space in the middle of the city, temporarily available at lower cost, for young entre-preneurs? Th e urban factory must provide machinery spaces, workshops and offi ces combined in one space.

Th e plot is located in the industrial district Kreis 5 in Zürich. A ten square meter module extends and creates fi ve types of facto-ries: wood, metal, plastic, chemical and textile. Each module has an independent circulation, with direct links to workshops, staff offi ces and machinery. A horizontal path situated on the upper fl oor links the diff erent modules what allows each type of factory to keep its autonomy by being still constantly connected to the whole.

Sections & Facades

Current supermarkets are mostly built like large boxes, dropped in the middle of the landscape. Th e ateliers interest is to give them a new character with adding cooperative housing on it

Epalinge’s complex presents very strong architectural elements. Instead of working against them, we accept the given artifacts, reinterpreting the principles as for example the circular staircase, the imposing geometry or the concentric housing arrangement around the place. Th e new building revolves around a light shaft while working on vertical layers. Th e cooperative aspect, very im-portant in the swiss supermarket philosophy, is refl ected in the shared kitchen between two apartments, acting as a gathering space

Th e purpose of the project is to re-evaluate an existing structure. Given here is the wooden framework developped by Colonel Emy in 1823, based on the previous writings of Philibert de l’Orme. Two features have been retained: the arc and modularity of the structure. Th ese have evolved three variants.

Th e fi rst, a series of straight prefabricated beams, small sized, to simplifi y transportation and assembly and to, lower costs. Th e structure is used as short-term exhibition cover.

Th e two others are based on the original curve of the arch, present in all elements of the porticos. Th e elements considered as beams are prefabricated and assembled on the construction site, connec-ted by steel rotulas. Th e structure is provided for a longer use, as it consists of more solid elements.

Create a space that can be occupied by twenty persons and a round table, this was the aim of this project. Based on a competition form, every student had two weeks to create his best room, that should have the best features and be possibly built on the univeristy site in a very near future. The garage house offers long space, travelling from the pu-blic entry, facing the sun, to the private bedroom, offering protection for a calm night. The shape of the roof, morphing from industrial to traditional house, helps reading this fea-ture. The pontoon links the living room to the outside with the help of the garage door, which not only opens up the whole fa-cade towards the sun, but at the same time protects from it. The very simple wooden structure, laying on metalic pickets, helps the fast mounting, cheap construction costs and possibility to build nearly everywhere in the same manner

What makes the best room best? After exploring room ty-pologies , features, feelings, shapes and spaces, the ate-lier went through a competition to decide which best room should be built. This is the project we built Students formed groups, every group with a special aim in the whole project. While some concentrated on the window, others on the foundations, the building slowly but surely took shape. As-pects of prices, authorizations, general organization and building site took part of the project.
