The Microsoft Planning Services Program is a Software Assurance customer benefit that provides access to qualified SI partners to help plan for Microsoft product / solution implementations.

The partner experience is accessed through a SharePoint 2013 portal designed for use by MPN Competency holding partners. The site features over 40 practice-in-a-box style consultation workshops for partners to download, rebrand and deliver to their own customers.

For customers, there is a second portal that provides a comprehensive list of offerings, and a partner search tool to help them identify local providers. Customers then engage with customers to create a custom plan for their next implementation of Office 365, Office, Windows, SharePoint, Yammer, Lync, Exchange, Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, or Team Foundation Server.

To the right is a sample report that I created in Excel that provides an all-up view of how each of offering is performing. This spreadsheet represents about 70,000 partner surveys collected at the time of invoicing across eight offerings and 20 products, providing management with a single report to evaluate program health and trends.

The size of the image to the right has been zoomed out to give a better sense of scope of what was created, while also blurring out sensitive information.

Examples of measurements taken included:

• % breakout of engagements by product• Customer / Partner Satisfaction with

offerings• Likelihood that customer will approve

partner service proposal• Likelihood that customer will deploy

proposed solution• Time required before solution is deployed• Opportunity size (servers / seats)• Etc…

Client data in tables has been zoomed out to give a sense of scope, while also blurring pertinent details to ensure client privacy and confidentiality

SAMPLE RELEASE SCHEDULEThis is a sample of a cross-division project release schedule that I built for the Planning Services operations team.

The schedule depicts a high level view of completed, in-progress, and planned marketing content projects along with information regarding planned systems projects, and internal business improvement initiatives.

Business Sensitive Milestones Renamed

Microsoft Deployment Planning Services Sample Release PlanI’ve authored a number of detailed release plans for multiple Planning Services product offerings and systems updates.

In this sample plan, I provided Microsoft team stakeholders, content contributors and operations resources with information regarding the Planning Services program, the release plan, requirements for a successful release, and high-level summarizations of how the roll-out would impact each area of the business (e.g. Systems, Publishing, Support, Compliance, Finance).

Global Delivery

PROJECT MILESTONE PURPOSE OUTCOME

Aligned Offerings Under One Portal Provide customers and partners with a consolidated single portal Increased customer visibility, satisfaction and partner adoption

Adopt Microsoft ID Authentication Improve Partner registration experience for easier / faster processing Greater partner participation contributed toward improvements in delivery volumes

Adopt Unified Delivery Framework Align offerings under a unified delivery framework to operationalize business Offerings are now consistent, and more easily mastered. Faster content cycles.

Align Offerings to MPN Competencies Improve partner onboarding experience, more qualified partners added Increased partner accountability with engagements now associated with organizations

Transition to Unified Program Charter Align offering outcomes and deliverables to a consistent single set Aligning outcomes allowed for enforcement of policies, and better performance analytics

Comparing Customer Engagements to Project Milestones

Microsoft Deployment Planning Services TrainingAs partner deliveries increased in volume, it became more difficult to ensure that quality deliveries were being performed and that consultants were properly equipped with enough context and information to deliver an engagement.

To reduce the risk, and improve partner success rates I created a series of partner training materials to help onboard partners and bring them into alignment with program requirements.

A total of 5 training decks and matching videos were created, and they are downloaded more frequently than the customer engagement materials.

CONTRIBUTIONS• Authored training materials• Created deck• Coordinated with a copy editor to clean up slide language, presenter notes, and record videos• Published content to Planning Services Partner Portal• Presented training materials to field, sales, and partner contacts on a monthly basis

Office 2010 & SharePoint 2010 Partner Evidence Program Contributions

Provided 700 partners with pre-release software, level 300-400 technical training and sales materials (12 Alliance, 30 ISVs, 658 SI’s)

Coordinated with field and product teams to identify and recruit pre-launch partners capable of delivering Office & SharePoint solution pilots on pre-release bits

Commissioned 121 solution summaries and executive partner video testimonials re: their Microsoft Office based solutions for desktop and mobile

Published a 71 page handbook highlighting the benefits of the program and providing instructions for how to recreate the program

Microsoft Office & SharePoint Partner Evidence Program KPIsTo the right is a sample table of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that I created to measure wins, by phase for the Office and SharePoint Partner Evidence Program.

NOTE: This table provides an example example of a successfully run program that generated a lot of partner excitement with a high rate of participation.

- 700 Nominated Partners- 510 NDAs signed- 172 Solutions Delivered - 229 Proof of Concepts Delivered- 122 Solution Summaries Generated

PROJECT CONTRIBUTIONS• Took my client vision for the program and translated it into a detailed program plan• Defined program success criteria, KPIs and tracking tools to capture information across each phase of the program • Created a SharePoint portal to track partner nominations, signed contracts, engagement status information, and how solutions mapped to

product capabilities (Collaboration, Enterprise Content Management, Search, Business Intelligence, and Unified Communications)• Managed project team of 4 resources to massage feedback and testimonial information into 122 customer solution summaries• Used solution summaries to as a marketing aid to help support the launch of Office and SharePoint at WPC 2010

This is a sample schedule I created for the Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 marketing division.

This “All-Up” schedule breaks out by each stage of the release process all partner and customer funded program opportunities.

PROJECT CONTRIBUTIONS• Created all-up program
