The Jesus Trail is marked with paint blazes in the same style as other Israeli hiking trails, with three stripes of color indicating the direction of the path. The Jesus Trail blaze colors are white/orange/white (fig.1). Stripes will bend at a 90° angle to the left or right to indicate left or right turns (fig. 2). Sometimes the trail follows along other marked trails. In this case, the Jesus Trail blazes will alternate with the blaze of the other trail, or an orange dot will be indicated above the other trail blaze (fig. 3). Other trails may
intersect with the Jesus Trail (fig. 4).
As you pass each blaze, the next blaze should be visible from where you’re standing. It may take time to train your eyes to look for these symbols on rocks, trees, walls, curbs and fences. Be aware that occasionally paint blazes are altered or destroyed by weather, animals, or local graffiti artists. We do our best to make sure the trail and its blazes are well-maintained, so please inform us if you find a section with missing or damaged blazes.
Nazareth is the boyhood home of Jesus (Matthew 21:11). Explore the winding market streets and the largest church in the Middle East. Zippori was an important Roman administrative city at the time of Jesus. Wander ancient ruins and admire unparalleled Byzantine mosaics. There is fee enter Zippori National Park. There is a fee to enter the historic site. Most of Jesus’ ministry took place around the Sea of Galilee, the largest freshwater lake in Israel (Matthew 4:18). Tiberias was an important city for rabbinical Judaism (John 6:23). Its attractions include archaeological ruins, beaches and hot springs. Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River (Matthew 3:13-17). Today, visitors can be baptized at Yardenit on the Jordan River. Mt. Tabor is the traditional site of the transfiguration of Jesus (Matthew 17). Today the mountain features two churches and a view of the Jezreel Valley. Mt. Precipice is the traditional place where the people of Nazareth tried to throw Jesus off a cliff (Luke 4:29). Today there is a small park and views of the Jezreel Valley and Mt. Tabor.
